Dear Dave,

I need to punch several hundred sheets of paper at a time, mostly three-hole punched. I was wondering if I could use a regular drill press and just buy the paper drill bit. Is this possible? If not, I may need to go ahead and buy a paper drill. I will be drilling through about 5,000 sheets a day. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mark

Mark,

You would be surprised how often customers ask me if they can use a standard drill press. The answer to that is no. There are a few good reasons. Paper drill bits are hollow, allowing drilled holes to travel up the drill bit. Paper drills are designed to take the drilled paper, as it travels up the bit, and discard it in a special container. Even if you could get a drill press to take the paper drill bit, the paper would be jammed in the hollow portion of the bit and would prevent the bit from drilling through paper.

Paper drills also use a special type of drill chuck that prevents the paper drill bit from fitting a standard press. You will need to purchase a paper drill. The good news is that paper drills are relatively inexpensive and are well constructed. Once you find a paper drill that meets your needs, it should last you a long time. The only thing you will need to replace is the paper drill bit, when it gets dull, and the drill blocks.

Five-thousand sheets of paper a day would not be considered high-volume drilling, since most paper drills can drill through as least one-inch of paper at a time. Three-hole drilling can be done with a single-spindle drill or with a three-spindle drill. Three-spindle drills will do all the drilling at once. You may want to talk with one of our sales reps to work out the exact details as to which drill will work best for you. Dave,

I've noticed that you have added a new line of office furniture. It appears to be made out of real wood. I work for a law firm and use wood furniture for our office decor. Could you please tell me a little about this furniture? What is it made of and can we make requests for changes to the furniture?

Thanks,

Sandra

Sandra

We have recently added a new line of wood office furniture. We have a variety of comfortable seating and tables for any office or lobby. We also sell pulpits, lecterns and podiums for conference rooms and auditoriums. Our furniture is hand made and constructed out of red oak from New York State. Because the furniture is hand made, you will usually have to wait one to two weeks before the order can be shipped. All the customers I have spoken to, that have purchased this furniture, absolutely love it. We have a wide variety of wood stains and fabrics to choose from. Custom modifications can be made to our wooden furniture. You may want to call one of our sales representatives to see if custom requests can be made to the furniture.
