ASK DAVE QUESTIONS

Dear Dave:
I am familiar with your folder inserters, but noticed that you sell folder sealers. The two machines sound like they are similar, but they look completely different. What is the difference?
Thank you,
Carrie

Carrie,
Folder inserters and folder sealers are different, but similar in purpose. Folder inserters take paper, fold it, put it in an envelope and seal it shut. These are very popular for mailing promotional material, invoices, letters and more (http://www.abcoffice.com/folder_inserter.htm).

Folder sealers take special pressure-sensitive self-mailing paper and fold it. The pressure activated glue keeps the folded documents sealed, allowing it to be mailed. The special paper used with the folder sealers can be printed on and run through the folder sealer. The end result is a self- contained letter that acts as an envelope and reading material in one. Folder sealers are commonly used by credit card companies and for mailing invoices. They are also commonly use for accounts payable and payroll check distribution. Dear Dave:
You have sold counterfeit detectors for a while. I know that the new ten-dollar bill was released this month. Can your detectors handle the new money formats that are being released?
Thanks,
Maxwell

Maxwell,
The manufacturers of our counterfeit money detectors keep up to speed with new formats of U.S. currency. Many of the invisible counterfeit money detection measures implemented in the new bills do not change. If anything does change, upgrade kits are often made available for older machines. Luckily the size of money does not change, allowing money counters to count any denomination of bill currently produced.

Dear Dave:
I want to make business cards with your thermography machine. Is the process easy and how does it work?
Thank you,
Scott

Scott,
Thermography machines are often used in the process of making business cards. You may have seen business cards with text that has an almost vinyl raised-letter effect. Thermography machines use a combination of powder and heat to create the popular raised-letter effect. The key to thermography is wet ink. Ink from ink jet printers dries too quickly and will not work. Digital duplicators (http://www.abcoffice.com/dupli1.htm) and other wet ink printing methods should work.

When a sheet of freshly printed business cards are run through the machine, powder is scattered over the sheet, which sticks to the wet ink. Powder that hasn't stuck to wet ink is shaken off. The sheet is then run through an oven where the ink and powder are baked, causing the powder to melt with the ink. The end result is a sheet of professional business cards.

The H-1 thermography machine (http://www.abcoffice.com/h-1.htm) can be used in an office or home, but must be placed on a table or countertop. Be aware that machine is about 67-inches long, so space may be an issue for some people. The oven gets very hot, so it is not recommended to use this machine where children may be present. The entire process is simple and the machine is fairly easy to use.
