ASK DAVE QUESTIONS

QUESTION:
I am in need of a paper folder that can handle about 4,000 sheets of paper every three to four days. I have already determined that I need something better than an entry-level folder. I don't want anything complicated.

ANSWER:
Folding that much paper will definitely require at least a mid-level machine. I would recommend using the Model 206M paper folder from MBM. This machine is one of the easiest I have ever used. The folding plates are simple to set up and the end result looks great.

The MBM 206M can easily handle the volume you are looking to fold and will be able to accommodate growth later down the line. It includes sensors that will let you know when a jam occurs and is easy to disassemble for cleaning. It can be set up to fold specified amounts of paper and has an LCD panel that indicates how many documents have been folded. A conveyor-style exit tray keeps documents in order.

With free shipping, I think this machine would be a great solution for your folding needs.

QUESTION:
I have been looking at your MW-3170 magnetic card writer and don't understand what high and low coercivity is. Could you explain this?

ANSWER:
The coercivity is the type of encoding used with a PVC card. Coercivity is also associated with the strength of magnetic intensity used to encode a card. Most readers can read both high and low coercivity cards, but not all writers can write in both.

Low coercivity is generally used in situations where data will be re-written several times over. High coercivity is typically used for long-term encoding.

A good example of a low coercivity card would be a gift card, hotel key, ID card or college ID. The magnetic strip on a low-coercivity card is typically light brown.

High coercivity is traditionally used for credit cards. The stripe on a high-coercivity card is typically dark brown to black.

The MW-3170 can read both high and low, but can only write in low coercivity. You will want to be sure and buy the right kind of cards. Low-coercivity cards can only be encoded low and high-coercivity cards can only be encoded high.

QUESTION:
If I am only shrink wrapping a couple of CDs a day, do you think your Super-Sealer shrink wrap machines with gun would be adequate?

ANSWER:
Our Super-Sealer shrink wrap machines are perfect for the occasional CD, DVD or box. Once the CD has been encapsulated in plastic, the heat gun takes only a few seconds to shrink the film.

You will, however, want to take into consideration where you will be a few years down the road. If you feel your volume may increase, you may want to invest in a higher-volume machine now rather than purchase another machine in a few years.

A comparable shrink wrap machine that you could grow into, assuming volume needs increase, would be the Mini Plus shrink wrapper. This machine encapsulates and shrinks film around a CD or other object in one pass.
