Widmer CC-3 Check Certifier Review

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

Widmer CC-3 Electric Check CertifierIf you have ever worked in a bank or credit union, or have been in a position where you had to deal with checks, you are probably familiar with check certifiers. These devices are used to certify checks as they are cashed or deposited. This process usually involves a rubber stamp, which can be time consuming and sloppy. One great way to improve check-certifying efficiency is by using a machine like the Widmer CC-3 check certifier. This is my review.

Widmer is a well-known manufacturer of paper handling equipment. Products include time stamps, numbering machines, check signers, perforators, time clocks and much more. One thing I have always been impressed with Widmer products is the build quality. They are almost always made out of some sort of heavy-duty cast metal.

The CC-3 check certifier from Widmer is most frequently found in banks, credit unions and in businesses where checks are handled on regular basis. This particular machine is designed to replace traditional handheld rubber stamps. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Rubber stamps can be easily lost.
  • Handheld check certifiers often produce blurry results.
  • Check certification often ends up crooked.
  • Rubber stamp check certifiers take time.
  • Most rubber stamps can’t produce tri-color impressions.

The CC-3 helps improve on just about all of these points. To begin with, it can easily sit on just about any desk. It only weighs in at 18 pounds, so it is heavy enough to be durable yet light enough to be moved around.

One reason rubber stamp check certifiers produce blurry results is because it is difficult to get the stamp head to hit the paper evenly. The CC-3 evenly applies pressure (electronically) throughout the entire stamping head. All points of the stamp hit the check, producing crisp results. It also uses a self-advancing ribbon, rather than an ink pad, which helps further clarify the text and numbers.

Widmer CC-3 Check Certifier Stamp Sample

Registration with the CC-3 is straight and accurate every time. It is designed to make repetitive check certification quick and flawless. It incorporates an automatic trip switch that automatically stamps the check once inserted. This process keeps the stamp straight and dramatically improves check certification speeds.

The Widemer CC-3 check certifier can be used with tri-color ribbons for added security. The stamp inself produces a control number and a changeable date. I am including a photo of the check certification stamp in this post.

The overall build quality on the CC-3 is excellent. The heavy cast metal case holds up and the inner components are designed for daily continuous use. The case is secured with a lock and key. If you need to speed up your business’s check certification capabilities, I would definitely recommend the Widmer CC-3.

Formax FD 8202CC Cross Cut Deskside Shredder Review

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Formax FD 8202CC Deskside Office Paper ShredderA good deskside paper shredder should be capable of keeping up with daily paper shredding operations. It should be reliable, functional and easy to use. With several options available for deskside shredding, it can be tough to find a shredder that fits the bill (figuratively and literally). One paper shredder you may want to consider for your daily operations is the Formax FD 8202CC cross cut paper shredder. This is my review.

Formax is one of the big three manufacturers of office paper shredders. The currently make shredders designed for home office use all the way up to industrial use. Their shredders are known for being tough. The Formax FD 8202CC is their entry-level machine.

What is a deskside paper shredder? A deskside paper shredder is generally smaller than your average office shredder, typically designed to fit next to a desk (sometimes under a desk). They are typically designed for use by one person, although some higher-end machines (like this one) can be used by 2-3 people. The FD 8202CC is about as compact as a wastebasket, which is nice for portability and space.

The FD 8202CC isn’t designed for high-volume use, but it isn’t a cheap piece of plastic either. It is perfect for shredding bills, receipts, old documents and more. It is capable of taking your sensitive material and shredding it into tiny pieces of paper.

The Formax FD 8202CC shredder utilizes a Level 3 security level cut. The higher the security level, the tinier the particles. Shredders are rated on a scale of 1 to 6, with a Level 6 being capable of shredding top-secret documents. This shredder is compact enough to shred paper into 5/32″ x 1 1/8″. You should be aware that a Level 3 security level is more than enough to handle sensitive material and is the most common security level used by businesses.

While the FD 8202CC can be used to shred paper, it is versatile enough to shred other material as well. This includes CDs, DVDs and credit cards. A special flap folds down over the opening of this shredder, allowing for easy insertion of optical disks.

Many cross cut shredders require that staples and paper clips be removed prior to shredding, the Formax FD 8202CC can easily handle staples and paper clips without suffering any damage.

The Formax FD 8202 is packed with sensors, making shredding jobs easier. This includes an auto start sensor that detects paper as it is inserted, automatically starting the shredder. It also has an auto sensor that detects when the bin is full, automatically stopping the shredder (preventing potential damage).

In conclusion, this is a great compact paper shredder for deskside or home use. It is portable (only 7 pounds) and can shred up to 20 sheets of paper at a time!

You can find the Formax FD 8202CC cross cut paper shredder here and our entire selection of Formax paper shredders here. You can find our huge selection of office paper shredders here.

Semacon CM-65 Automatic Coin Crimping Machine Review

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Semacon CM-65 Electric Coin Crimping MachineIf you have a coin sorter or counter, and like roll your coins, you probably need a coil crimping machine. These machines quickly seal the end of coin tube rolls. If you’re in the market for a machine, or need to speed up operations, consider using the Semacon CM-65 automatic coin crimping machine. This is my review.

Semacon is one of the best-known manufacturers of coin counting machines, sorters and currency counters. Their products have been around for years and have developed a good reputation with customers. It is not uncommon for a Semacon machine to hold up for several years without any special servicing.

So what exactly does a coin-crimping machine do? These machines have a special head that is designed to seal the end of coin roll (aka coin shotgun shell or wrapper). These rolls are typically sturdy enough to hold pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters, yet are weak enough to break open if needed.

Semacon CM-65 Coin Crimper In UseThe Semacon CM-65 is the perfect companion device for just about any coin-rolling machine. It is available in three different versions. This includes a 1 head, 4 head and 6 head version. The heads can easily be removed and replaced with the head that corresponds with the denomination being crimped shut.

The Semacon CM-65 is completely electric. Using it is as easy as using a pencil sharpener and can be completed in three easy steps.

Step 1. Open the hidden storage compartment located under the machine and select the crimping head you need. This should correspond with the denomination of the coin roll you are sealing shut.

Step 2.
Hold the roll of coins you need crimped shut against the rotating crimping head.

Step 3.
After just a few seconds the coin wrapper will be completely crimped shut and you can move on to the next roll.

This is a quick video of the Semacon CM-65 in action:

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

Who can use this machine? You will commonly find the Semacon CM-65 in banks, credit unions and in retail stores and businesses that roll coins for storage and distribution purposes.

While this machine may look a little intimidating up front, it is actually extremely safe to use. You can touch the rotating head and it will not pinch or hurt you. It can easily be placed on a desk, and at 20 lbs, is very easy to move around.

The quality of this machine is excellent and it is designed to be used throughout the day. If you handle coin rolls and wrappers on a daily basis, this is definitely a machine you should consider purchasing.

Semacon S-1015 Mini UV Currency Counter Review

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Semacon S-1015 Mini UV Currency CounterCounting money by hand is a time consuming process. Accuracy can be dramatically improved, along with speed, by using an automated currency counting machine. The only downside of a standard currency counter is that they can’t catch counterfeit bills. If you need speed, accuracy and the ability to scan for counterfeit bills, consider a machine like the Semacon S-1015 Mini UV currency counter. This is my review.

Semacon may not know for making the cheapest bill counters available, but they are known for making some of the highest-quality bill counters around. Many of their machines are manufactured in Japan, where quality control is significantly higher than in other manufacturing countries. Their machines are “burned in” and tested prior to packaging, ensuring a working machine out of the box.

Semacon currently manufactures a wide range of currency counters, coin counters and coin roll crimping machines. You can find their entire line of money handling equipment here.

The Semacon S-1015 Mini UV is a compact currency counter, designed from the ground up to quickly count bills, tickets, coupons, paper and more. It is one of Semacon’s “mini” counters, designed to be more compact than standard currency counters and far more portable.

One of the biggest benefits of the S-1015 Mini UV is that it has ultraviolet counterfeit detection capabilities. If you have ever held a U.S. $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100, you’ll notice several UV features that glow. These same features are scanned by the S-1015 Mini UV. If these features are not present, the bill counter will promptly alert you to the possibility of a counterfeit banknote.

The digital display, located on the S-1015, is found on the top of the machine. This makes controls easy to access and data easy to read. This display will provide you with a running total on what’s going on. You can set the S-1015 to provide you with the total count of an individual stack of bills, or you can set it to provided you with an added total of several stacks of bills.

The control panel is easy to use. A bright green button turns the counter on and a red button stops the machine. A UV button allows you to toggle the counterfeit detection on and off and a batch counting button makes it easy to set up batch counting for various amounts.

Not only does this currency counter handle money, but it can also be used to count other denominations (including Canadian), as long as they fall within the 115 x 50 to 167 x 85 mm minimum and maximum sizes. This can also be used to count tickets, coupons and paper.

Overall I am very impressed with this counter. The build quality is exceptional, up to par for daily use. It should easily hold up for years and is perfect for use in grocery stores, retail shops, banks, credit unions and more.

You should be aware, however, that this counter will not provide you with the actual dollar amount of the bills being counted, just the total quantity. Few currency counters provide a dollar amount and those that do are called currency discriminators.

You can find the Semacon S-1015 Mini UV currency counter here and our entire selection of currency counting machines here.

Formax FD 382 Automatic Paper Folding Machine

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Formax FD 382 Automatic Paper Folding MachineIf you fold a lot of paper and need a paper folding machine that is “no nonsense” and easy to set up, you may want to consider the fully automatic Formax FD 382 paper folding machine. This machine takes just seconds to set up and is extremely reliable. This is my review.

While Formax may be best known for their automatic envelope inserting machines, their line of paper folding machines are equally as impressive. To date, Formax currently offers 7 different models of folding machines. These machines range from desktop use to high-end air-fed paper folding machines for print shops.

The FD 382 is one of Formax’s high-end friction feed paper folding machines. It operates at a speed of up to 20,100 pieces and is capable of creating letter folds, zig-zag folds, half folds, gate folds, double parallel folds and many other “standard” fold types. Not only are the folds easy to set up, but they are also extremely accurate and aligned.

This machine is fully automated. That means there is very little manual effort involved to get it up and running. Motors are built in to each of the folding plates. Once a fold has been selected, the plates automatically adjust themselves. Even the telescoping exit conveyor is fully powered. A special sensor, located on the feed tray, automatically detects the size of the paper being used, making setup even easier.

While speed is a huge benefit of the Formax FD 382, I have to say the interface and programmable features built in are the icing on the cake. The FD 382 has 18 pre-programmed settings out of the box and can be set up with an additional 25 custom folds that are stored in the memory.

A large 2.8″ LCD screen lets you know exactly what’s going on. That includes details on the page size being used, the fold that is selected, the speed and much more. The LCD screen is backlit, making this folding machine easy to set up in low-light conditions as well. The screen also keeps you up to speed with a 6 digit resettable counter and an 8-digit life counter. This is excellent for auditing purposes.

Paper size and thickness are always important features to take into consideration prior to purchasing a paper-folding machine. The FD 382 can handle paper as small as 3.5″ x 5″ or as large as 12.25″ x 18″. This range covers most jobs.

Are you tired of fanning paper prior to placing it in a folding machine? The Formax FD 382 utilizes a drop-in feed tray that holds up to 500 sheets of standard 20# paper, no fanning required. This system is extremely efficient, dramatically cutting down on paper jams that were frequent with older “fan” style machines.

While not a stock feature, the FD 382 is available with an optional dedicated multi-sheet feeder. This feeder makes it possible to insert up to 4 stapled or unstapled sheets for multi-sheet folding. While it can only operate as fast as the operator inserts paper, it is a nice feature to have on handle for multi-sheet mailers.

Overall I consider the Formax FD 382 to be a solid paper folding machine. It is constructed from metal components and features the quality Formax machines are known for. I highly recommend this for use in most offices, print shops, copy centers and other organizations that fold a lot of paper on a regular basis.

Intelli-Fold DF-304VC Pharmaceutical Paper Folding Machine Review

Monday, June 20th, 2011

Intelli-Fold DF-304VC Pharmaceutical Paper Folding MachineHave you ever wondered how those tiny little instructional sheets get folded up prior to placement in a bottle or box? This is done using a special type of machine commonly referred to as a pharmaceutical folding machine. As a kid, when assembling a new bicycle or other toy, I actually thought people manually folded those tiny instructions. As an adult, I realize that highly complex machines are used to do the job. If your business or manufacturing plant needs a machine, consider using the Intelli-Fold DEF-304VC pharmaceutical folding machine with vertical stacker. This is my review.

Most paper folding machines utilize two folding plates to create anything from a letter fold to an engineering fold. Machines with two folding plates are limited to 2 total creases the folded document. Additional folds can be created, on some machines, by running the material through twice.

Mini Folding / Pharmacy FoldingPharmaceutical folding machines have 4 folding plates. This dramatically increases the folding possibilities. The folding process, created by 4-plate machines, is often referred to as miniature folding or mini folding. This is because these machines can take a larger sheet of paper and fold it down into something small for placement in tight places or small packages. This includes pharmaceutical bottles and packaging.

While many standard folding machines create 6-8 common fold jobs out of the box, the Intelli-Fold DF-304VC can create 16 common folds along with a wide range of custom folds. You can disable 2 of the 4 plates, however, to create common folds as well.

The Intelli-Fold DF-304VC can take a sheet of paper at fold it down into something that is only 1″ wide. It folded down in another direction by utilizing the built-in scoring wheel. The end results are tiny instructional sheets that can conveniently be placed in a box or bottle.

The DF-304VC literally takes just seconds to complete a folding operation, versus minutes that it would take someone to manually do the same job. The motor on the DF-304VC runs at a whopping speed of 12,000 sheets per hour. To the best of my knowledge, there are no other 4-plate pharmaceutical folding machines capable of running at those speeds.

Each of the four folding plates is manually adjusted. It only takes about 30-60 seconds to adjust each plate (by a trained individual), making setup pretty fast. Once set, up to 500 sheets of 20# paper can be placed in the tray and the machine can be turned on. A friction roller is used to pull in paper and fold it. It can even be set up for batch folding purposes.

The Intelli-Fold DF-304VC uses a vertical stacker to take folded paper and tightly stack it for organizational purposes. The stacker is pretty impressive and far more efficient than a traditional exit conveyor. Be aware that the vertical stacker, with its own independent motor, must be turned on prior to turning on the folding machine itself.

One thing that really impresses me about the DF-304VC is the wide range of paper sizes it accepts. It can take paper ranging in size from 2 3/8″ x 2 3/4″ up to 11 ¼” x 17 3/4″. Again, few other pharmaceutical folding machines can do this.

As is the case with Intelli-Fold folding machines (by Intelli-Zone), the DF-304VC features an excellent build quality. All materials are designed for continuous operation. The folding plates, machine frame and many other components are made out of metal. The blue-gray design looks classy and blends in well with existing office equipment.

If you own a pharmaceutical manufacturing or distribution company, something like the DF-304VC is probably just what you need. This machine is dependable, reliable and available at a great price (considering what it does).

You can find the Intelli-Fold DEF-304VC pharmaceutical folding machine here and our entire selection of paper folding machines here.

MBM Triumph 4315 Stack Paper Cutter Review

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

MBM Triumph 4315 Electric Stack Paper CutterIf you handle a lot of paper, perhaps hundreds of sheets at a time, you may be familiar with stack paper cutters. Stack cutters quickly cut paper down into smaller, more manageable sizes. One great example of a stack cutter is the MBM Triumph 4315 stack paper cutter. This is my review.

MBM (by IDEAL) is the largest and most prominent manufacturer of paper cutters in the United States. Their line of cutters includes rotary trimmers, guillotine cutters and stack cutters. They also manufacturer a huge line of paper shredders under the name of Destroyit. All these products feature precision German engineering and are made in Germany. Needless today, MBM products have a great reputation.

The MBM Triumph 4315 is what’s known as a semi-automatic stack cutter. This is because it utilizes both manual and electric functions. It is also designed for medium-volume use. You will find the 4315 in copy centers, print shops and in businesses that handle, print and cut paper on a regular basis.

As mentioned earlier, the Triumph 4315 is semi automatic. The cutting process is all electric. A motor, enclosed in the cutter, powers a German Solingen steel blade. Manual operation involves adjusting the backstop and engaging the clamp.

Solingen steel is considered by many to be the highest grade of steel available in the world. Knives, kitchen blades and other high-end cutting products are made from Solingen steel. The Solingen blade in the Triumph 4315 is not only excellent quality, but it is also razor sharp. It is designed to hold an edge for a long time. Don’t worry, however, about once it becomes dull. The cutting knife can be re-sharpened.

The manual backstop on the 4315 us adjusted by turning a hand crank located on the front of the machine. This hand crank turns a spindle that pulls the backstop forward or pushes it back. Measurements, based on the position of the backstop, are displayed on the front of the machine via a digital display. This can be toggled between inches or centimeters, depending on your preference.

Have I mentioned that this thing is accurate? This isn’t only because of the razor-sharp blade or the precision backstop. It also utilizes an LED optical cutting line. This line is calibrated with the blade, displaying to the operator exactly where the blade will make the cut. This is excellent for “eyeballing” cuts.

While I still recommend exercising safety, the Triumph 4315 is an extremely safe cutter. It utilizes a combination of clear plastic guards that prevent use when open. These guards protect all cutting aspects of the machine. The front of the machine also requires a key, a safety switch to be turned on and two-handed operation for activating the cutter. It is safe all the way around.

This is a video of the Triumph 4315 and other MBM stack cutters in action:

The MBM Triumph 4315 does not have the ability to store custom jobs, but calibrations and adjustments take just seconds. Because neither the clamp nor the backstop is electric, it isn’t recommended for high-volume cutting. It can still easily, however, handle repetitive cutting throughout the day without skipping a beat.

I highly recommend using this stack paper cutter for your cutting jobs up to 16 7/8″ wide and up to 1 ½” thick. You won’t be disappointed.

You can find the MBM Triumph 4315 stack paper cutter here and our entire selection of stack paper cutters here.

Intelli-Bind IB150 Personal Comb Binding Machine Review

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Intelli-Bind IB150 Comb Binding MachineIf you’re not a bindery, or an office that binds dozens to hundreds of books a day, you may be fine with a binding machine that’s a little lower key. This may be 1-10 books a day. If this sounds like you, consider looking at the Intelli-Bind IB150 comb binding machine from Intelli-Zone. This is my review.

Intelli-Bind (by Intelli-Zone) is one of the most affordable and feature-per-dollar lines of binding machines available. Intelli-Bind binding machines cover the comb, wire and comb binding machine lines of bookbinding.

The Intelli-Bind IB150 is one of the cheapest (as in price) binding machines available online. As of this review, it costs just $52. While inexpensive, it can still be used to bind a 2″ book. It really finds its place with those who only need to bind a few books a day.

Using the Intelli-Bind IB150 is pretty straightforward. Take your paper, place it in the horizontal punch and pull the handle. The IB150 can punch 12 sheets of paper, although I would probably keep that around 6-8 sheets. Once the holes are punched, you can place your comb element in the comb opener fingers. Once the comb is opened, your punched paper can be inserted and the comb can then be closed. Voila! You have a bound booklet.

The Intelli-Bind IB150 can be used to bind presentations, reports, booklets and more. I have seen people use the IB150 to create cookbooks, phone directories, promotional literature and more. While the punching capacity isn’t extremely high, it can be used to punch report covers, clear covers and card stock (1 sheet at a time).

The Intelli-Bind IB150, unlike many similarly priced machines, can be used by lefties or righties. This is because it utilizes a “U” shaped handle that can be used from just about any angle. It can also be used by both hands, for faster paper punching. Just be careful that you don’t get over confident and start punching more paper than the machine can handle. That’s a quick rout to a broken machine.

This machine is fairly light, weighing in at 13 pounds shipped. What’s nice about the weight is that this machine can easily be picked up and moved around. This is especially nice if you need to store the binding machine and break it out every so often for the occasional job.

I have to say that I wish it had disengageable punching pins, however, if you are only binding letter-size presentations (8 ½” x 11″) you should be fine. It is designed to work with 19-ring plastic binding combs.

The build quality on the IB150 is actually pretty good. While it does have a plastic shell, a lot of the internal components are made out of metal. If treated well, and used to bind high-volumes of books, this machine should easily hold up for some time. I also have to mention that it looks pretty nice as well.

You can find the Intelli-Bind IB150 comb binding machine here and our entire selection of Intelli-Bind book binding machines here. We also carry a great selection of other binding machines found here.

Feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788 with any book binding questions.

MBM Destroyit 2404 Paper Shredder Review

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

MBM Destroyit Deskside Paper ShredderA professional and customer-oriented business will use a paper shredder when handling sensitive documents. A good reliable office shredder should meet a few solid requirements. This includes reliability, high sheet capacity, a good security level and the ability to shred paper on a continuous basis. One shredder that hits every one of these marks is the MBM Destroyit 2404 paper shredder. This is my review.

If you’ve read any of my paper shredder reviews, you probably know that I am a huge fan of Destroyit paper shredders. I have personally used dozens of different paper shredders and the German engineered Destroyit paper shredders continue to do exactly what I need. Destroyit, by MBM, makes shredders in sizes that range from deskside to industrial designs.

The MBM Destroyit 2404 is available in two different designs. This includes a strip cut and a cross cut model. While the cross cut version is by far the most popular, the strip cut is still a great shredder. The biggest differences between the two are the sheet capacity and the security level.

MBM Destroyit 2404 Sheet Capacities:

  • 2404 Strip Cut: 19 to 22 sheets of paper at a security level 2 (3/16″ wide strips).
  • 2404 Cross Cut: 9-11 sheets of paper at a security level 3 (3/32″ x 5/8″ particles).

The Destroyit 2404 features a 9 ½” wide opening for paper. This is wide enough to handle envelopes, letter-size and legal-size documents, receipts and much more. It can even be used to shred wider computer forms paper if they are first folded in half. The powerful ¾ horsepower motor doesn’t stutter, handling fed paper with gusto.

This shredder is extremely easy to operate. The “Easy Switch” rocks back and forth to turn the shredder on, put it in reverse and turn it off. A series of color codes and backlit symbols let you know exactly what’s going on.

The Destroyit 2404 is almost completely automated. A built-in photo cell detects paper, turning the shredder on and off by itself. Sensors also let you know when the bag is full and the door is open. For a deskside shredder, these features are all welcome.

This is a video of the MBM Destroyit 2404 in use:

One of my favorite features of the Destroyit 2404 is the large 13-gallon shred bin. This is a fairly large and significant capacity for a deskside shredder. This means fewer bag changes for you.

The shredder itself is made from high quality components. This includes hardened steel cutting shafts that are covered by a lifetime warranty. The shredder head sits in a noise absorbing wooden cabinet that sits on casters and the gars are all enclosed in a dust-proof housing, which significantly extends the life of the shredder. The motor is thermally protected for continuous use (no need to worry about overheating).

In conclusion, I have to say that the Destroyit 2404 (Cross Cut or Strip Cut) is a great choice for use in the office. While it is a deskside shredder, multiple people can easily use it throughout the day. I highly recommend this shredder.

You can find the MBM Destroyit 2404 paper shredder here and our entire selection of Destroyit paper shredders here. We also offer a great selection of other paper shredders here.

Akiles WireMac 2:1 / 3:1 Wire Binding Machine Reviewed

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Akiles WireMac 2:1 / 3:1 Wire Binding MachineCreating your own product is fun and fulfilling. One hobby that I enjoy, and many businesses perform on a daily basis, is bookbinding. It’s fun to produce something that is tangible and looks professional. One of the best-looking binding formats is wire binding. It’s clean, looks great and is ideal for the most important presentations and reports. One machine I personally recommend using is the Akiles WireMac wire binding machine. I have used this machine myself and this is my review.

To start with, I have to say that Akiles is one of the best binding machine manufacturers around. They manufacture comb, wire and coil binding machines and they almost always turn out to be high quality products. The reason I bring this up is because if the WireMac doesn’t fit your bill, you should still consider an Akiles Machine.

The WireMac wire binding machine is designed for low to medium-volume book binding. That isn’t to say that it is a low-volume machine, but it features a manual punch. That means the WireMac’s biggest limiting factor to speed is the operator. The machine itself could stand up to higher-volume binding, but the operator would probably get tired.

You can get the Akiles WireMac in two different designs. One design comes with a 2:1 pitch hole pattern and the other comes with a 3:1 pitch hole pattern. The pitch you use depends entirely on your preference. I can say, however, that the 2:1 pitch has been more popular, due in part to the fact that a 2:1 pitch hole pattern can bind more paper.

Using the WireMac is extremely easy. Simply take a stack of paper (up to 20 sheets of 20 lb paper) and punch it. Keep punching paper until you have the designed amount punched. You then insert a wire binding element into the punched holes and close the wire shut using the built-in wire closer. Sounds easy, right? It really is an easy machine to use.

Don’t let this machine’s simplicity fool you. It is also packed with features. One of my favorite features is the selectable punching pins (aka disengageable dies). This allows you to shut of any of the 40 dies (3:1 pitch) or 27 dies (2:1 pitch). This eliminates half-punched holes and makes it possible to bind books of varying sizes. This machine has a 14″ punching length. Because it is open ended, you can technically punch paper even longer than 14″.

I also really like the adjustable margin depth and diameter selector. Both of these features make it extremely easy to bind books of varying thicknesses.

The WireMac has been around for years and we have sold untold amounts of these machines to customers. Akiles has a great track record with our customers and the WireMac has proven to be extremely reliable, lasing for years without any issues.

Having handled this machine myself, I can tell you that it is solid. The all-metal construction really helps improve the book binding experience. I highly recommend this machine for those interested in binding books, reports and presentations.

You can find the Akiles WireMac wire binding machine here and our entire selection of Akiles book binding machines here. You can find ABC Office’s entire selection of binding machines here.
