Semacon S-1015 Mini UV Currency Counter Review

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Semacon S-1015 Mini UV Currency CounterCounting money by hand is a time consuming process. Accuracy can be dramatically improved, along with speed, by using an automated currency counting machine. The only downside of a standard currency counter is that they can’t catch counterfeit bills. If you need speed, accuracy and the ability to scan for counterfeit bills, consider a machine like the Semacon S-1015 Mini UV currency counter. This is my review.

Semacon may not know for making the cheapest bill counters available, but they are known for making some of the highest-quality bill counters around. Many of their machines are manufactured in Japan, where quality control is significantly higher than in other manufacturing countries. Their machines are “burned in” and tested prior to packaging, ensuring a working machine out of the box.

Semacon currently manufactures a wide range of currency counters, coin counters and coin roll crimping machines. You can find their entire line of money handling equipment here.

The Semacon S-1015 Mini UV is a compact currency counter, designed from the ground up to quickly count bills, tickets, coupons, paper and more. It is one of Semacon’s “mini” counters, designed to be more compact than standard currency counters and far more portable.

One of the biggest benefits of the S-1015 Mini UV is that it has ultraviolet counterfeit detection capabilities. If you have ever held a U.S. $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100, you’ll notice several UV features that glow. These same features are scanned by the S-1015 Mini UV. If these features are not present, the bill counter will promptly alert you to the possibility of a counterfeit banknote.

The digital display, located on the S-1015, is found on the top of the machine. This makes controls easy to access and data easy to read. This display will provide you with a running total on what’s going on. You can set the S-1015 to provide you with the total count of an individual stack of bills, or you can set it to provided you with an added total of several stacks of bills.

The control panel is easy to use. A bright green button turns the counter on and a red button stops the machine. A UV button allows you to toggle the counterfeit detection on and off and a batch counting button makes it easy to set up batch counting for various amounts.

Not only does this currency counter handle money, but it can also be used to count other denominations (including Canadian), as long as they fall within the 115 x 50 to 167 x 85 mm minimum and maximum sizes. This can also be used to count tickets, coupons and paper.

Overall I am very impressed with this counter. The build quality is exceptional, up to par for daily use. It should easily hold up for years and is perfect for use in grocery stores, retail shops, banks, credit unions and more.

You should be aware, however, that this counter will not provide you with the actual dollar amount of the bills being counted, just the total quantity. Few currency counters provide a dollar amount and those that do are called currency discriminators.

Magner 35-3 Currency Counter Review

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Magner 35-3 Automatic Bill CounterWhen you think about bill counters, brands like Semacon, Cassida and Klopp are probably a few that come to mind. One of the most popular brands, however, is Magner. One of our most popular Magner bill counters is the Magner 35-3 high-speed bill counter. It has been around for years and has developed quite a reputation. This is my review.

Magner is a very popular manufacturer of bill counters, coin counters, coin wrappers and counterfeit detectors. They are well known for their Model 20, Model 75 and Model 75V. While these are all great machines, their most popular machine, according to our customers, is the Model 35-3.

If you have ever used a bill counter, you may know that one of the most frustrating things about using one is the issue of misfeeds. While this doesn’t occur with all counters, many require adjustments and finicky settings to work correctly. The Magner 35-3 works as advertised right out of the box. While there are some adjustments that can be made, few are required.

Magner claims that the 35 series is the longest-ever produced bill counter and the #1 best selling bill counter in the world. While I can’t confirm all these claims, I can tell you that it is a solid bill counter. Here are a few reasons why.

To begin with, it is accurate. You can take a stack of bills, place them in the hopper, and it will count them with extreme precision every time. When operating a business, accuracy can mean a big difference. When operating a bank, accuracy can mean someone’s job.

Speed shouldn’t be an issue with the 35-3. It has a variable speed motor, capable of counting bills at 600, 1200 or 1500 banknotes per minute. Simply select the desired speed from the control panel. As someone who has used several bill counters, I can vouch for the fact that 1500 bills per minute is screaming fast.

The Magner 35-3 is great at detecting flaws in bills and feed issues. It has a double, chain and half-note detection. It will also alert you in the rare event that a jam occurs. It also has 5 adjustable density settings, making this bill counter idea for use with not just US currencies, but foreign currencies as well.

The control panel is very easy to navigate. A digital display lets you know what’s going on at all times. The display also provides you with a total number of bills counted.

The Magner 35-3 can handle be set up for standard counting, batch counting or accumulative counting. Standard counting resets the machine every time a new stack of bills are placed in the hopper. Batch counting lets you tell the machine how many bills to count before stopping. Accumulative counting remembers previous counts and keeps them all tallied until reset.

You will want to be aware that the Magner 35-3 does not sort bills, it only counts them. It will give you a total number of bills counted, not a total value of bills counted. If you need the actual dollar value, and to have the bills sorted, you will need what’s known as a bill discriminator. Most people are fine with the total number of bills and bills are typically pre-sorted prior to counting.

From start to finish, the Magner 35-3 bill counter is a high quality and accurate machine. Considering how long it has been around, the fact that it has been time tested with customers and is made from high-quality materials, you will more than likely be highly satisfied with this machine.

You can find the Magner 35-3 automatic currency counter here and our entire selection of bill counters here.

Cassida 5520 Currency & Bill Counter Review

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Cassida 5520 Currency / Bill CounterPrecision, accuracy and reliability are all features you expect to find in a bill counter. You don’t want to have to deal with jams, breakdowns and other issues. You need a reliable machine. One bill counter we have come to find as reliable and dependable is the Cassida 5520 bill counter. This is my review.

Cassida currently makes several different bill counters, coin counters and counterfeit bill detectors. Cassida, along with other reputable manufacturers like Magner and Semacon, have developed a great reputation with customers and dealers. Many of Cassida’s bill counters include built-in counterfeit detection capabilities.

The Cassida 5520 is available in a UV (ultraviolet) and a UV / MG (ultraviolet & magnetic) version. The UV and MG capabilities are designed to scan bills for counterfeit properties while simultaneously counting them. The process literally takes milliseconds and the process is flawless. It is very impressive to see just how accurate this bill counter is.

This should give you an idea as to just how fast this bill counter operates. It runs at a speed of 1,300 bills per minute, which equals 21.6 bills a second. Considering the average human counts bills at a speed of about 1-3 bills per minute, this is a dramatic improvement. I can also tell you that this bill counter is leaps and bounds more accurate than a human.

The Cassida 5520 has a hopper capacity of 200 new bills, which usually equals about 100 used bills. As soon as the bills are counted, they can be removed and more bills added.

This bill counter features a few different counting methods. One is to count the bills and then reset as soon as another stack is added and the second method is to keep a continuous total of bills counted (until reset). Total numbers are easy to see in red on the built-in digital display. At the moment, the 5520 even comes with a remote display that can be plugged into the bill counter.

The Cassida 5520 also offers the option of batch counting, which means you can tell it to count 20 bills (your choice) and then stop. Once the bills are removed it will count another 20 bills. This is ideal for bundling bills in specific quantities (great for banks).

One downside is that this bill counter will not sort the bills. Few (less than 5%) machines are capable of sorting bills. If you need a bill counter that can also sort bills, you will need what’s known as a bill discriminator.

Not only does the 5520 count bills, but it can also be used to count checks, coupons and tickets. It can also be used to count foreign currencies. The only caveat is that the material being counted has to fit within 2″ x 4″ to 4″ x 7-1/3″ sizes.

Overall I have to say that the Cassida 5520 is a solid machine. It is portable, accurate and the build quality is great. It even includes a build in handle for added portability.

You can find the Cassida 5520 bill counter here and our entire selection of bill counters here.

Semacon S-1100 Bill Counter Review

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Semacon S-1100 Bill CounterDo you count, handle or keep tabs of bills on a regular basis? Are human counting errors costing your business money? It sounds like you need to upgrade to a bill counting machine. They are relatively cheap and can potentially save you a lot of time and money. One great model you may want to consider using is the Semacon S-1100 bill counter. This is my review.

While Semacon bill counters aren’t considered to be the cheapest machines on the market, they are considered to be some of the best quality bill counters around. Semacon makes several different bill counters, coin counters and other money handling machines.

The Semacon S-1100 bill counter is available in three different versions. You can get it as the standard S-1100, the S-1115 UV CF (ultraviolet counterfeit detection) or the S-1125 UV-MG CF  (ultraviolet and magnetic counterfeit detection). All three models work the same other than the counterfeit detection capabilities you get with the S-1115 and S-1125.

Using the Semacon S-1100 bill counter is easy and requires very little training. Simply plug in the machine, insert your bills and tell the machine to start counting. Sure there are some additional features that you may want to use as well, but it really is that easy.

The S-1100 is especially known for its ability to handle used and worn bills that often put other bill counters on the fritz. It also has chain note, half note and double not detection capabilities.

Unlike many bill counters that are made from cheap components, the S-1100 is made from high quality material. It even has a one-year warranty to bask that up. The warranty includes coverage on parts, labor and shipping. Semacon is a very nice company to work with.

The hopper on the S-1100, S-1115 and S-1125 can hold up to 100 new or 200 used bills. It can also be used to count foreign currencies, tickets, checks and paper. Just be sure the dimensions of the bill or paper you are counting fits within the minimum and maximum specifications (100 mm x 50 mm to 175 mm x 100 mm).

The Semacon S-1100 looks great, fits in well with existing office equipment and even includes a convenient dust cover when not in use. It is very easy to pick up and move around the office or store.

This particular unit is primarily designed for use in smaller banks and credit unions, but can also be used in retail stores, grocery stores, casinos, clubs and much more.

I personally really like Semacon and their line of products, including the S-1100, S-1115 and S-1125. I have no problem recommending this machine for low to medium-volume use.

Cassida 85 Currency Counter Review

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Cassida Model 85 Currency & Bill CounterA currency counter should be precise, easy-to-use and durable. It should save you money and time by simplifying counting operations. One great machine that can help you with your bill, money and currency counting needs is the Cassida Model 85 currency counter. This is my review.

Cassida is one of the best-known manufacturers of currency counters. They currently manufacture about a dozen different products. This includes currency counters, counterfeit detectors and coin counters.

The Cassida 85 is one of the newest additions to the Cassida lineup. It is available in a base model, a UV (ultraviolet) model and a UV / MG (ultraviolet / magnetic) model. The UV and UV / MG models have counterfeit detection. These models are the Model 85, Model 85 U and Model 85 UM.

The Cassida 85 is a variable speed currency counter. The motor can be adjusted to 3 different settings. This includes 800, 1200 and 1500 bills per minute. This is ideal when counting bills, tickets, paper, checks and other material.

Unlike many currency counters out there, the Cassida 85 has very impressive capacity specs. It has a 1,000 bill hopper capacity and a 300 bill stacker capacity (new bills). Most bill counters are limited to 100.

Not only does the Cassida 85 count bills, it can count bills in a variety of different ways. It can provide you with a running total of bills counted and can batch count bills. Batch counting is great if you are a bank or a retail environment that needs to group or store bills in specific quantities.

The control panel on the Cassida 85 is very easy to use. The buttons are large (for those of us that have fat fingers) and easy to read. The display on the Cassida is large and easy to view.

The Cassida 85 is available with a few different options. You can get it with an optional dust collector or an optional remote customer display.

I feel safe in categorizing the Cassida 85 as a commercial quality machine. It is tough, definitely designed for daily use and is accurate. This is great for banks, retail stores and many other organizations.

You can find the Cassida Model 85 currency counter here and our entire selection of Cassida bill counters here. You can find our entire selection of bill counters here. This includes models from Cassida, Semacon, Ribao, Magner, ABC, Klopp any many more.

Semacon S-1025 Mini Currency Counter (UV / MG) Review

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Semacon S-1025 Mini Currency Counter with UV / MG DetectionWith a lot of bill counters out there to choose from, finding the “right” currency counter may seem like a bit of a challenge. One model you may want to consider looking at or even purchasing is the Semacon S-1025 Mini currency counter. This is my review.

To begin with, Semacon has developed a great reputation over the years. While they aren’t known as the cheapest machines out there, they are known for having some of the best quality machines available. Quality, ultimately, pays itself off. This is especially the case when you get a machine that lasts for years. Semacon machines have earned this reputation.

The S-1025 Mini is fairly new to the Semacon currency counter lineup. Made in Japan, the S-1024 Mini features an excellent build quality that rivals anything made in China. Handling the machine gives you a pretty good idea just how tough it is.

This counter not only counts bills, but also has the capability of scanning counterfeit bills. The counterfeit detection is done via ultraviolet (UV) and magnetic (MG) scanning. If the proper UV and MG properties are not found in a bill, the S-1025 Mini will alert you.

The S-1025 Mini is a compact currency counter, but it still packs a punch. The compact design is very convenient for portability. A built-in handle makes the S-1025 mini easy to move around from desk to desk, counter to counter. The footprint of this bill counter is fairly small. It measures in at just 9″ W x 11.5″ D x 5.5″ H.

The control panel is intuitive, with all the buttons within a hands reach. The control panel makes it easy to set the S-1025 up for batch counting and the digital display lets you know how many bills have been run through the machine.

Overall most people should be very happy with the Semacon S-1025 Mini. The S-1025 Mini is rigorously tested prior to shipping, which ensures it will work perfect right out of the box. It is a solid machine that should easily last most people for years.

You can find the Semacon S-1025 Mini currency counter here. You can find our entire selection of currency and bill counters here.

ABC V-30 Portable Battery-Powered Bill Counter Review

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

ABC V-30 Portable Battery-Powered Bill CounterAre you in need of a compact, portable and battery-powered bill counter? If this is the case, the ABC V-30 portable bill counter is probably what you need. We have sold these for years and I have been able to personally use one on several occasions. This is my review.

To begin with, bill counters are huge time savers. They are able to complete in seconds what it would take minutes to do manually. While there are many bill counters out there, few of them are capable of running off of batteries.

The ABC V-30 bill counter can run off of 4 AA batteries or be plugged into the wall (AC / DC compatibility). While a battery-powered bill counter may not be for everyone, it definitely has its place.

Why would you use a battery-powered bill counter? The ABC V-30 is especially popular because it is portable and can be used in places where electricity may not be present. This may be at a kiosk, a county fair, an outdoor entertainment event or more.

The ABC V-30 is capable of holding and counting up to 200 new bills or 100 used bills. This isn’t bad for a machine as small and compact as this one is. The motor runs at a speed of up to 600 bills per minute.

This little machine is actually quite remarkable to see in use. It is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, yet it is a quick little counter. It has a little digital readout that makes it easy to see exactly how many bills have been counted.

It includes a nice little dust shield that can be closed when not in use. This is nice because it allows the bill counter to be placed in a bag or purse without suffering any damage.

While I admire the tenacity of this little counter, you should be aware that it is not intended for high-volume continuous counting. It is primarily designed for low to medium volume counting periodically throughout the day. It should also be noted that this bill counter does not have counterfeit detection capabilities although it will alert you to half or short bills.

Overall I give the ABC V-30 a good grade for being affordable, reliable and effective for what it’s meant to do.

You can find the ABC V-30 portable bill counter here. You can find our entire selection of bill counters here. If you still have questions, feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788 to speak with one of our money counting specialists.

ABC 1150 Ultra Bill Counter Review

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

ABC 1150 Ultra Counterfeit Bill & Money DetectorDo you need to count large amounts of bills every day and also need the ability to verify that they are real? One bill counter that you may want to look at is the ABC 1150 Ultra bill counter & counterfeit detector. I have used this bill counter on several occasions and this is my review.

In case you have never counted money by hand, the process can be dirty and extremely inaccurate. This being the case, there are still many people that count money by hand. This includes cashiers, nightclubs, restaurants, grocery stores and many others.

Bill counters are dead-on accurate and extremely fast. The ABC 1150 Ultra will finish in a few seconds what it would take a person several minutes to do. Simply drop the bills into the hopper and let the machine do the rest. It is that simple.

The ABC 1150 Ultra does not require any special setup. It has a few guides where you place the money in, but that’s about it. The hopper holds 200 new bills or 100 used bills. The motor runs at a speed of about 1,000 bills per minute.

This bill counter is extremely lightweight and portable. A convenient handle pulls out from the top of the machine, making it extremely easy to move. While it doesn’t run on batteries, it can be plugged into just about any standard wall outlet.

The ABC 1150 Ultra can do batch counting. This is great if you need to organize money into quantities of 50, 100 or another amount. The machine will count the desired number of bills, stop and then wait until the bills have been removed before starting back up.

One of the biggest plusses of the ABC 1150 Ultra is the counterfeit detection. This counter will scan each bill as it runs through the machine. It detects the bills for magnetic (MG) and ultraviolet (UV) properties. If a counterfeit bill is detected, the machine will stop, light up and give you an audible sound alerting you to the problem.

Be aware that the ABC 1150 Ultra is not a bill discriminator. This means it will tell you the total number of bills, but cannot distinguish the value difference between bills. Very few machines are capable of doing this and typically cost 15 to 20 times more.

As I previously mentioned, I have used this bill counter many times. It is extremely accurate. I have run the same stack through dozens of times in a row and it always give the exact same number every time. This bill counter has a great track record with our customers.

You can find the ABC 1150 Ultra bill counter & counterfeit detector here. You can find our entire selection of money and bill counters here.

Cassida Tiger Bill Counter Review

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Cassida Tiger Bill CounterAre you in need of a reliable, easy-to-use and affordable bill counter? One model that you may want to consider is the Cassida Tiger bill counter. This compact little bill counter packs quite a punch and may be just what you need. This is my review.

Cassida is known for their line of bill counters. They currently offer about 10 different machines. Cassida is also known for their build quality. Cassida bill counters rarely experience technical issues.

The Cassida Tiger is one of the newest bill counters offered by Cassida. It is extremely compact, weighing in at only 8.8 pounds. This means the Cassida Tiger can be used on most desks and tables and can easily be picked up and moved.

While the Tiger doesn’t differentiate between denominations, it can give you a total number of bills counted. It includes a count, add, batch and add+badge mode. All four modes are extremely easy to set up and can be accessed by means of the Tiger’s control panel. Number totals are clearly visible on the digital display.

As mentioned earlier, Cassida is known for a great build quality. The Tiger is no exception. The Cassida Tiger features a one-piece chassis and the roller shafts are made from durable steel. This means the Cassida will be able to last for years, making it a great investment.

The Cassida comes in three different models.

  • Tiger Basic (found here) – This is the basic version of the Cassida Tiger. It is capable of counting but does not have built-in counterfeit detection.
  • Tiger UV (found here) – This version of the Tiger counts and has ultraviolet (UV) detection capabilities for detecting counterfeit bills.
  • Tiger UV/MG (found here) – This version of the Tiger counts and has both ultraviolet (UV) and magnetic (MG) detection capabilities for detecting counterfeit bills.

One of my favorite features of this bill counter is the cover. The front of the machine actually lifts up, making the inside extremely easy to access and clean.

You can view a video demo of the Cassida Tiger here:

Overall I am very impressed with this bill counter. It is solid, accurate, doesn’t seem to jam and is very portable.

Semacon S-1000 Mini Currency Counter Review

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Semacon S-1000 Mini Currency and Bill CounterAre you looking for a reliable bill counter? There are many different brands and models out there. One brand that has grown in recognition and popularity over the past several years is  Semacon. Semacon recently released the S-1000 Mini currency counter. So is this a model you should consider buying? Here is my review.

To begin with, Semacon is known for its build quality. Many of their bill counters are made in Japan, versus China, and the quality really shows through. Their machines are rigorously tested prior to shipping, so you know you’re not getting a dud. Semacon bill counters also have a generous warranty, typically covering parts, labor and shipping.

The Semacon S-1000 Mini is a compact little machine. It weighs in at about 10 pounds and measures in at 9-inches wide by 11.5-inches deep by 5.5-inches high. This makes the S-1000 Mini very easy to pick up and move around.

The hopper on this machine can hold anywhere from 80-120 bills at a time. The counting process takes just seconds from the time the bills are inserted. As you might imagine, this is far faster than counting bills by hand. The motor is rated at 900 bills per minute.

While it is primarily designed to count bills, it can be used to count coupons, tickets, cards and other paper material. Just be sure the item you are counting falls within the machine’s specifications. It can also be used to count foreign currencies.

The control panel on this machine is fairly simple. There aren’t any complicated settings required prior to use. It can also be used for batch counting, which is a pretty cool function to have if you are a bank.

Be aware that the S-1000 Mini does not have built-in counterfeit detection. It is also not capable of distinguishing the difference between denominations. Very few bill counters have the ability to distinguish the difference between bill values (bill discrimination). The S-1000 is made in a counterfeit detection model.

My overall impression with the Semacon S-1000 Mini is that it is a solid little machine. While it may be more of an investment than other counters with similar specifications, you won’t be disappointed with the quality or the warranty.

You can find the Semacon S-1000 Mini bill counter here. You can find our entire selection of bill and currency counting machine here.
