MBM Destroyit 3103 Paper Shredder Review

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

MBM Destroyit 3103 Paper ShredderDoes your business, organization or facility need a high-volume paper shredder that can be reliably used throughout the day? With many machines out there, you may be having trouble settling on any one make or model. One paper shredder you may want to take a look at is the MBM Destroyit 3103 paper shredder. This is my review.

MBM Destroyit (by IDEAL) makes some of the worlds most popular shredders. Destroyit shredders are commonly found in government offices and military bases around the worlds. These German engineered and German built shredders have developed a great reputation for being some of the hardiest shredders around.

The Destroyit 3103 paper shredder currently comes in two different formats, strip cut and cross cut. Other than the cutting blade used, everything else on these two variations are practically identical. They both feature large 37 gallon shred bins and continuous duty motors.

The biggest difference between the cross cut and the strip cut versions of the 3103 is the cutting capacity and the security level. The strip cut version of this shredder is a Level 2 and the cross cut version is a Level 3. The higher the security level, the tinier the particle size and the more secure the cut is.

The Level 2 (strip cut) version of this shredder can cut up to 22 sheets of paper at a time and the Level 3 (cross cut) version can cut up to 15 sheets of paper at a time. Both of these cutting capacities are impressive considering the size of the shredder.

The Destroyit 3103 has a large 12″ wide feed opening that is capable of handling letter-size paper, envelopes, computer forms and more. It ca also handle several smaller items been fed through at once. The hardened steel cutting shafts not only shred paper, but they can also handle staples, paper clips, credit cards and CDs.

The “Easy Switch” design of the 3103 makes operating this shredder extremely easy. Simply rock the large round button forward to turn the shredder on. Press it again to turn the shredder off. Rock the switch back and the motor is thrown into reverse.

Several sensors let you know when the bag is full and when the door is open. After an hour of inactivity, the 3103 will go into energy saving model, which dramatically cuts down on electricity use.

If you aren’t already impressed by the build quality of the 3103, you will probably be impressed by the warranty. The 3103 carries a lifetime warranty on the cutting blades and a one-year warranty on everything else.

Simply put, this shredder is reliable, extremely easy to use and looks great. Placed on casters, this shredder is easy to move around and is ideal for use in a centralized office location. I would personally recommend this shredder for just about any office.

MBM Destroyit 2503 Paper Shredder Review

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Destroyit 2503 Paper ShredderDo you need a paper shredder that’s more robust than a deskside shredder that can be used on a departmental level? If so, you may want to consider a centralized shredder like the MBM Destroyit 2503 paper shredder. This is my review.

MBM Destroyit (by IDEAL) makes some of the most reputable and best recognized office paper shredders today. These shredders are engineered and build in Germany. To date, Destroyit makes over 20 different models of shredders. This doesn’t include the strip cut, cross cut and high security variations.

The Model 2503 has been categorized by Destroyit as a centralized office shredder. This means it is designed to be placed in a centralized location for use by multiple people. This also means the 2503 has a continuous-duty motor that can be used throughout the day without needing to cool down.

While capacity is always nice to have in a shredder, speed is also very important. The Destroyit 2503 is fast. This shredder takes your paper and shreds it in just seconds. This is a stark difference from other shredders that seem to chug along while trying to shred paper. Speed is ideal for an office environment and is great when you are shredding a lot of material.

The Destroyit 2503 is available as a strip cut and two different cross cut variations. The Level 2 strip cut shreds about 19-21 sheets, the Level 3 cross cut shreds about 12-14 sheets and the Level 4 cross cut shreds about 8-10 sheets of 20# paper at a time. The higher the security level, the smaller the particle size. The smaller the particle size, the lower the capacity typically is.

While most paper shredders are designed to accept paper up to letter-size, the 2503 has a large 10 ¼” opening. This makes it easy to shred envelopes, letter-size paper, jumbled paper and much more. It is extremely easy to use.

One of my favorite features is the user interface. The newly-designed interface is about as simple and useful as they come. The rocker-style button lights up green when on (making it easy to see the shredder is on) and can be tilted back for reverse mode. Several LED indicators let you know when the back is full, door is open and much more.

The cutting blades on the Destroyit 2503 are made from high quality steel. These blades are nice, designed to handle paper for years and can easily handle staples, paper clips and credit cards. The strip cut and Level 3 cross cut versions of this shredder can even handle CDs and DVDs.

The 26 gallon shred bin holds a lot of paper. This means fewer bag changes for you. Because this shredder has a cabinet door design and a pullout bag frame, bag changes are extremely easy. Casters also make this shredder easy to move around.

I have to say that few shredders compare to the 2503 in an office environment. This shredder is excellent and well worth the price. This shredder will outlast other cheaper shredders by 2-3 times longer or more. It simply has an excellent rack record.

MBM Destroyit 2360 Paper Shredder Review

Monday, February 14th, 2011

MBM Destroyit 2360 Deskside Paper ShreddersIf you are looking for a great all-around small office paper shredder, you should take a long and serious look at the MBM Destroyit 2360 paper shredder. This paper shredder has developed a great reputation among our customers. This is my review.

To begin with, the MBM Destroyit 2360 (by IDEAL) is available in several different versions. This includes a strip cut, a cross cut and a high security super micro cut version (SMC). All three of these shredders are equally comparable in quality with the biggest difference being the cut style and the sheet capacity. These shredders are German designed and German made.

Destroyit recently implemented a new design to their line of paper shredders that I find extremely creative and customer friendly. The got rid of all the separate buttons you often find in shredders and added a simple rocker button.

This button allows you to turn on the shredder, turn off the shredder and put the shredder into reverse. This same rocker button also includes several indicator lights that will let you know when the shredder is full, the door is open and more.

The Destroyit 2360 has a large 9-¼ gallon waste bin. This size of bin holds a lot of paper and makes bag changes less frequent. This is especially nice for a deskside paper shredder.

Unlike many department store style shredders that can easily overheat, the Destroyit 2360 utilizes a durable thermally protected motor that allows this shredder to run continuously throughout the day. The single-phase motor is very quiet compared to other similar shredders. This is especially nice for an office environment.

The Destroyit 2360 uses specially hardened steel cutting shafts that allow this shredder to accept staples, paper clips and credit cards. These hardened blades also allow the 2360 to operate at a high rate of speed. Almost as soon as you feed this shredder paper, it has finished the job.

Many people have concerns over the safety of a shredder. The 2360 uses an SPS (Safety Protection System) package. This includes an electronically controlled transparent safety shield. This shield is located in the opening of the shredder. If this shield is lifted open, it will turn the shredder off. This shield also has just enough clearance to allow the maximum amount of paper to be fed through.

Overall I consider the Destroyit 2360 to be a solid deskside paper shredder for just about any office. It looks good, is built well and is ideal for shredding throughout the day. It should easily last for several years.

MBM Destroyit 2403 Paper Shredder Review

Friday, February 11th, 2011

MBM Destroyit 2403 Paper ShreddersKeeping your personal information safe, secure and inaccessible is critical to protecting your identity. One great way to help cut down on identity theft is by using a paper shredder. Unfortunately many paper shredders out there aren’t up to the task. One reliable shredder that you may want to consider using is the MBM Destroyit 2403 paper shredder. This is my review.

Destroyit (by IDEAL) continues to be one of the leading paper shredder manufacturers around. These German engineered and German made shredders are known for lasting years to even decades. MBM Destroyit shredders come in a variety of sizes, depending on where they will be used and how many people will use them.

The Destroyit 2403 is definitely an office shredder, although it can be used at home. It is available in both a strip cut (Security Level 2) and a cross cut (Security Level 4) version, depending on your preference and desired shredder security level. The strip cut can shred more paper at once, but the cross cut shreds paper into tinier pieces.

Destroyit has really refined the user controls for shredders. The 2403, as with most Destroyit shredders, utilizes a rocker control for shredder operation. The button tilts forward to turn it on and off. When on, the button is green. It tilts back to but the shredder into reverse mode, turning the switch red.

A series of lights let you know if the shredder is full or if door is open. It even features a load indicator that will stop the shredder if too much paper is fed in and will back the paper back out. This helps to prevent paper jams.

One thing you will probably notice when you use the 2403 is how fast it is. Unlike many cheap department store shredders, the Destroyit 2403 shreds paper in just seconds. It is gone almost as fast as you can feed it in. This is ideal for shredding large amounts of paper.

The Destroyit 2403 is not only fast, but it is also extremely safe to use. It implements what is called the Safety Protection System (SPS) package. This includes a transparent safety shield that prevents accidental shredding and personal injury.

The blades on the 2403 are tough. Both the strip cut and cross cut versions use high-quality hardened steel blades. These blades allow the 2403 to easily handle staples, paper clips and credit cards. The strip cut version can even shred CDs.

The 2403 can easily be placed next to a desk or along a wall for use by multiple people. The motor is thermally protected, allowing it to be continually used without a cool down period. As is the case with all Destroyit shredders, the 2403 is quieter than your average shredder.

I highly recommend this shredder for use in the office. It is dependable, reliable and extremely effective at shredding paper. I give this shredder a solid 5 out of 5 stars. You won’t be disappointed.

Top 5 Best Paper Shredder Brands

MBM Destroyit Paper Shredders by IDEALFinding the right paper shredder is a pretty big deal, especially when you need a reliable model that can be used to destroy your most sensitive information. The only problem with shopping around for a good paper shredder is finding the right brand. I’ll be honest; a lot of the shredders out there are garbage. They may look pretty, with their plastic molded shells, but ultimately it’s what inside that counts.

I have personal experience with dozens of different makes, models and brands of shredders. Some shredders are remarkable feats of engineering genius, where others are little more than glorified garbage cans. Others are unable to run for more than 30 minutes without overheating, while even more sound like lawn mowers.

To help assist those of you who are shopping around, I have come up with a list of what I consider to be the top 5 best paper shredder brands available today.

Top 5 Best Paper Shredder Brands

  1. Destroyit – MBM Destroyit paper shredders (by IDEAL) are some of the best shredders around. They are designed and made in Germany. The cutting blades are some of the best around and these shredders are some of the easiest to use. These are perfect for continuous use in the office. There isn’t enough space in this article for me to write all the good things I have to say about Destroyit.
  2. Formax – Formax shredders are relatively new when compared to some of the other brands out there, but the build quality on these machines is excellent. Having sold these shredders for the last 5 or so years, our customers are always happy with what they receive. Formax makes some of the best office shredders around.
  3. Dahle – Sure they make paper cutters and folding machines, but they also make some excellent paper shredders too. Dahle paper shredders come in strip cut, cross cut and even high security models. Most Dahle shredders are German engineered and German made.
  4. HSM – HSM shredders are made from high quality components and are designed from the ground up to be safe and durable. HSM shredders range in size from deskside shredders to high-end commercial shredders.
  5. Intimus – Intimus, now owned by Martin Yale, still manufactures some of the best paper shredders available. This includes cross cut, strip cut, CD and high security designs. Intimus has been around for years and continues to make high-quality machines.

These shredders and manufacturers have demonstrated over the years that their paper shredders have what it takes to keep your information secure. I feel confident that you will not be disappointed in any of these paper shredder brands.

Destroyit 2604 SMC (Super Micro Cut) Paper Shredder Review

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

Destroyit 2604 SMC (Super Micro Cut) Level 6 High Security Paper ShredderDoes your business, organization or government agency need a paper shredder capable of destroying paper with top-secret Level 6 shredding capabilities? If this sounds like what you’re need, you should seriously consider the MBM Destroyit 2604 SMC (Super Micro Cut) paper shredder. This is my review.

Destroyit paper shredders (by IDEAL) are in high demand. Unlike many plastic, cheap and toy-like shredders out there, Destroyit shredders feature some of the best and highest quality parts in the paper shredder industry. These shredders are German designed and German built. In one word, they are “TOUGH.”

The Destroyit 2604 SMC is a high security paper shredder designed to shred the most sensitive, top secret and confidential documents out there. It is classified as a Level 6 paper shredder and meets NSA requirements (NSA/CSS EPL-02-01-AA).

The 2604 SMC cuts paper into tiny 1/32″ x 3/16″ (.8 x 5 mm) particles. This particle size is so small it is almost difficult to comprehend.  That is thinner than a penny and the length is just barely over half the width (diameter) of a standard Bic pen. Particles this small are impossible to decipher and cannot be re-assembled.

Because the cut is so incredibly small, and the cutting head in the shredder is so complex, most Level 6 shredders are unable to shred more than a few sheets of paper at a time. The Destroyit 2604 SMC can shred up to 6-8 sheets of paper at a time based on standard copy paper thickness.

Apart from the amazing build quality of the 2604 SMC, this shredder also has many other amazing features. One of my favorites is the automatic oiler. Because this shredder has a cross cut pattern cutting head, a lot of friction is generated. This means the shredder needs to be oiled. It can be difficult to remember to oil a shredder. The automatic oiler on the 2604 SMC is just that, automatic. It will oil the shredder as is needed without any special attention. The only thing you need to worry about is making sure the oil bottle is full.

The control panel on the 2604 SMC is extremely easy to use and very intuitive. The rocker switch glows green when on and a capacity indicator lets you know how much stress is being put on the shredder.

The 10 ¼” opening handles most sizes of paper and envelopes without a problem. Sensors will let you know when the bag is full and the door is open. This shredder is very safe to operate. The motor is designed for continuous use.

I know this review sounds a little one-sided, but it really is that good. Very few other shredders out there compare to the quality and dependability of the Destroyit 2604 SMC for Level 6 shredding.

MBM Destroyit 2604 Cross Cut Paper Shredder Review

Monday, November 8th, 2010

MBM Destroyit 2604 Level 3 Cross Cut Paper ShredderI recently had the opportunity of unboxing and helping set up an MBM Destroyit 2604 cross cut paper shredder on our showroom floor. Now that I have had a chance to play around with it and run it through a few trial runs, I have a pretty good idea on how it works. This is my review.

To begin with, the MBM Destroyit line (by IDEAL) has a great reputation with businesses. With a wide range of sizes and cutting capacities, Destroyit has quickly become an office favorite. Destroyit shredders are German engineered and German built from the ground up with quality and ease-of-use in mind.

My first impression, upon unboxing the Destroyt 2604, was how heavy it was. It took two of us to take the shredder head and lift it onto the cabinet. I have to say that I am extremely impressed as to the build quality. The particular model we unboxed and used was the cross cut version.

Destroyit 2604 Cross Cut Shredder Control PanelThe shredder sits on casters, so mobility shouldn’t be an issue (although it is a heavy beast). It weighs in at 119 pounds shipped. The exact dimensions of the 2604 are 18 1/2″ x 22 1/2″ x 36 1/2″.

One thing that I immediately noticed as we set up the shredder was the waste bin. Unlike many departmental shredders that have you put in a free-floating plastic bag, the 2604 has an actual plastic bin where you can place a shredder bag liner. This makes the 2604 very easy to empty and much cleaner to use.

Keep in mind that the 2604 is a departmental shredder, designed to be used by about 4-8 people. Destroyit makes office shredders that are much bigger, for an entire office. The 2604 could probably be used by an entire office and not even flinch.

The Destroyit 2604 (cross cut) we used is rated as a Level 3 shredder. The cross cut blades cut particles into 3/16″ x 1 1/2″ (4 x 40 mm) pieces, although it is also available in a level 4 with particle sizes of 3/32″ x 5/8″ (2 x 15 mm). It is also available in a Level 6 micro cut. These blades are able to handle staples, credit cards and CDs. The sheet capacity of the Level 3 model is 20-22 sheets of standard copy paper.

The control panel on this shredder is about the easiest around to use. It uses a rocker button for operational control. Press it forward to turn the shredder on and backwards to put the shredder in reverse. It’s that easy. Several LED lights are in the button that will let you know when the door is open and when the bag is full.

A series of 7 lights let you know how much stress is being put on the shredder. The more lights, the more stress. I like this system because it gives you an idea on how much paper you can feed into it without counting the paper ahead of time. The 2604 has a continuous duty motor that does not require any cool down and can be used all day long.

The 2604 we unboxed in the showroom has a built-in automatic oiler which is pretty slick. It has a clear tube going into the back of the shredder, supplying the blades with a adequate amount of lubrication. An oil bottle sits on the side of the shredder. This is far easier than manually oiling a shredder and dramatically prolongs its life.

I can’t emphasize enough in words how good the build quality is on this shredder. I highly recommend it for pretty much an office department. You won’t be disappointed.

You can find the MBM Destroyit 2604 cross cut paper shredder here. You can find our entire selection of Destroyit paper shredders here.

Destroyit 2260 Personal Paper Shredder Review

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Destroyit 2260 Strip and Cross Cut Personal Paper ShredderAre you tired of buying cheap shredders from the local department store that seem to fall apart in just a few weeks to a few months? One shredder you may want to consider using in your home office or next to your office desk is the Destroyit 2260 personal paper shredder by Ideal. This is my review.

Destroyit shredders, from Ideal, are considered by many to be some of the best shredders available today. They are German engineered and German made. Destroyit shredders range in size from home office to industrial size.

The Destroyit 2260 is available in both a strip cut and a cross cut design. The compact size of this shredder makes it perfect right next to a desk. This shredder measures in at 8 3/4″ x 13 1/2″ x 21″. It includes a 5-gallon shred bin, which is more than adequate for home office and deskside shredding.

The strip cut version of this shredder is able to cut up to 10-12 sheets of paper at a time (security level 2) and the cross cut version can handle up to 5-6 sheets of paper at a time (security level 3). This level of security is usually more than adequate for most businesses.

The mouth on this shredder is 8 ¾-inches wide. This means it is able to handle most common sizes of paper. Both the strip cut and the cross cut versions of this shredder run at about 12 feet per minute.

One feature that I really like about the 2260 is the clear window on the front of the shred bin. This window makes it easy to see how full the bin is. The bin itself pulls out for easy emptying.

Here is a video demonstrating several features of the Destroyit 2260.

Overall I really like this shredder. While it is more of an investment up front, this shredder should hold up for years without any issues. You can find the Destroyit 2260 personal paper shredder by Ideal here. You can find our entire selection of Destroyit paper shredders here.

MBM Destroyit 3105 Cross Cut Paper Shredder Review

Friday, August 6th, 2010

MBM Destroyit 3105 Cross Cut Paper ShredderThe MBM Destroyit line of paper shredders, by Ideal, are very popular with businesses and government. So which Destroyit shredder should you get? One well-rounded model you may want to consider is the Destroyit 3105 cross cut shredder. This is my review.

MBM Destroyit paper shredders (from IDEAL Krug & Priester) are widely used by government and businesses due to their heavy-duty build, longevity and reliability. There are few paper shredders out there capable of competing with Destroyit.

The Destroyit shredder you get will depend on the cutting capacity you need, the security level you need and how many people will be using it. As long as you follow these guidelines, you will be happy with your shredder.

The Destroyit 3105 is a cross cut paper shredder, sometimes referred to as a confetti or particle cut shredder. It is rated as a level 3 shredder, which is the most common type of cross cut shredder used by businesses today. It can be used to destroy and shred most sensitive materials.

The 3105 is ideally used by 8-12 people (a small department) throughout the day, although few more isn’t a big deal. It is able to handle about 30-32 sheets of standard 20# paper at a time and runs at an amazing speed of 30 feet per minute. That is fast for a cross cut shredder of this size.

The blades on this shredder are very impressive. They have been hardened to a point where they can handle staples, paper clips and will even shred credit cards and CDs. This means you won’t have to worry about chipped or damaged shredder blades anytime soon.

The motor is rated as a continuous duty motor. This means it can literally be used constantly for hours without any need to cool down. This is a huge time saver and extremely convenient.

As one of the newer models released by MBM, the Destroyit 3105 is designed to save energy. It will actually go into a standby mode after one hour of inactivity.

One of my favorite features of the Destroyit 3105 is the automatic oiler. I have been telling people for years about how important it is to keep a shredder oiled. The automatic oiler makes oiling easy as it continuously oils the shredder without any special attention (other than making sure the oil reservoir is full).

Overall I am very impressed by the Destroyit 3105. This is a perfect shredder to have in an office and will provide years of hassle-free service.

You can find the MBM Destroyit 3105 cross cut paper shredder here. You can find the strip cut version of the 3105 here. You can find our entire selection of Destroyit paper shredders here.

MBM, Ideal, Destroyit, Triumph and Kutrimmer – One in the Same?

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

MBM Office Equipment and MachinesThere is a lot of confusion out there when it comes to brand names and which one is associated with another. MBM is an common example of this. We recently had a customer ask us what the difference was between the Ideal 2602 shredder and the Destroyit 2602 shredder. I went on to tell her that they are the same shredder by the same company, with MBM being the manufacturer.

MBM is one of the leading manufacturers of office automation equipment in the world today. MBM manufactures paper folders, collators, business card cutters, paper drills and much more. You can find our entire selection of MBM products here.

MBM’s parent company is IDEAL Krug & Priester of Germany. IDEAL Krug & Priester is well known for manufacturing German engineered and built paper shredders and paper cutters.

This is a list of the brands that MBM (IDEAL) manufactures:

Destroyit – This is MBMs line of paper shredders. They are often referred to as Destroyit shredders by IDEAL. This is why many people use Destroyit and IDEAL interchangeably. You can find Destroyit paper shredders here.

Triumph Stack Paper Cutter from IdealTriumph - This is MBMs line of stack (ream) paper cutters. As with Destroyit, Triumph paper cutters are often referred to as Triumph by IDEAL. Many people refer to these paper cutters as both Triumph and IDEAL cutters. You can find our Triumph cutters here.

Kutrimmer - This is MBMs line of arm cutters, sometimes referred to as guillotine cutters. These, as with Triumph, are sometimes referred to as Kutrimmer by IDEAL. Customers refer to these as Kutrimmer or IDEAL cutters. You can find our Kutrimmer paper trimmers here.

IDEAL – As previously mentioned, IDEAL Krug & Priester is the parent company of MBM and is often linked to Destroyit, Triumph and Kutrimmer branding.

When you call us, we will understand what you mean regardless of whether you refer to a shredder as an MBM shredder, Destroyit shredder or IDEAL shredder. Hopefully this hasn’t all been too confusing. Have a question? Post it here!
