Intelli-Shred IS100 Cross Cut Paper Shredder Review

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Intelli-Shred IS100 Cross Cut Paper Shredder If you’re looking for a great deskside paper shredder for under $100, you may want to consider a great deal like the Intelli-Shred IS100 cross cut paper shredder by Intelli-Zone. This shredder is robust, compact, portable and is perfect for home or office use. I have used this paper shredder and this is my review.

When shopping around for a home or office deskside shredder, there are a few requirements that you should keep in mind. To begin with, it is a good idea to buy a cross cut shredder as the security is better than a strip cut shredder. I also recommend getting something that can handle the occasional staple or paper clip. It also isn’t a bad idea to get a shredder that can handle DVDs, CDs and credit cards.

The Intelli-Shred IS100 has all those bases covered. To begin with, it is a cross cut paper shredder, cutting paper into tiny 5/32″ x 2 1/8″ particles. This is far more secure than a 1/8″ or ¼” strip, which is normal for a strip cut shredder. The cross cut pattern makes shredded material difficult to reassemble. Most thieves won’t even bother sifting through cross cut documents.

Thanks to a 5-gallon bin, the IS100 is able to hold a lot of shredded particles of paper, decreasing the frequency of bag changes. Emptying the bag is easy. Simply remove the sliding bin drawer on the front of the machine. Emptying the bin is extremely easy and a clear window on the front of the bin makes it easy to see how full the shredder is.

With a 10 sheet shredding capacity, and an operational speed of 10 feet per minute, the IS100 can easily keep up with most individual paper shredding needs. While it is ideal for individual use, it is definitely not robust enough to be used as a centralized departmental paper shredder.

When using a shredder at home or in the office, it should be relatively quiet, right? The IS100 puts out 56 decibels of noise. While not silent by any means, it is quiet by paper shredder terms. This means it can be used in the office without causing too much of a distraction.

The Intelli-Shred IS100 is build with high quality materials, high-end electronics and is backed by an impressive one-year warranty. As of the writing of this review, it is priced at just $99. This is the perfect shredder either buy for your own home / office or as a gift for another person.

Intelli-Cut 530D Digital Stack Paper Cutter Review

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Intelli-Cut 503D Stack Paper CutterStack paper cutters slice through and cut hundreds of sheets of paper at a time. Some are even capable of cutting up to 3″ of paper in a single pass! While not everyone can afford a fully automatic stack cutter, one great alternative is a manual stack cutter like the Intelli-Cut 530D. I recently had a chance to play around with this cutter and this is my review.

To begin with, the Intelli-Cut is a fully manual stack paper cutter. Don’t let that scare you off. While operation is manual, it is extremely easy to use and takes just seconds to operate. In fact, I am able to cut through 100+ sheets of paper simply by using a couple of fingers. I’m pretty sure even a child could operate this thing (although I wouldn’t recommend it).

So what is manual on this machine? To begin with, the clamping mechanism is activated by pulling on one handle where the cutting is done by pulling another handle. The clamp doesn’t require much force and from what I’ve seen it seems to do a great job of keeping paper in place. The blade, as I mentioned earlier, sliced through the paper like butter.

The backstop on the Intelli-Cut 530D is manual, but has some digital assistance. While you do have to turn a hand crank to move the backstop forward and backward, a digital display on the front left of the machine lets you know exactly where the backstop is located. This makes adjustments extremely easy, not to mention extremely accurate.

The cutting blade on the 530D is made from hardened steel and seems to hold up well with repeated use. As the blade cuts through the paper, it ultimately ends up in a cutting stick, which allows you to cut everything right down to the last sheet of paper. The cutting stick is easy to access and simply pulls out of the side of the machine when it needs to be rotated or replaced.

This is a video demo of the Intelli-Cut 530D in use:

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

Safety was definitely in great consideration when this machine was built. Much like Dahle and Triumph stack cutters, the 530D has a clear safety guard that has to be pulled into place before cutting can begin. This helps keep appendages, such as your fingers, safe from harm.

I have used the 530D to cut standard paper, card stock and laminated material. It seemed to handle all extremely well. The build quality is excellent. Just about everything I touched, prodded and tested seemed to be made out of metal. It seems to hold up well right with the great German stack cutters that I have previously used.

I personally used the 530D with the optional stand (which I love), however, you can use this cutter on a table or desk. Just be aware that it does weigh 115 pounds shipped.

Overall I highly recommend this cutter. If the digital display isn’t exactly a necessity for you, you can order this cutter as the Intelli-Cut 530M without the digital display (found here). This machine is perfect for small print shops, copy centers and others that need to quickly cut down up to 1.5″ of paper at a time.

Why You May Want to Use the Intelli-Fold DE-172AF

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

Intelli-Fold DE-172AF Paper Folding MachinePaper folding machines really find their place in copy centers, schools, non-profit organizations, churches and businesses. If you need to fold paper as large as 11″ x 17″, menus, brochures, pamphlets and other material, you are going to love the Intelli-Fold DE-172AF. This versatile paper folding machine is quickly becoming a customer favorite. There are many reasons for this. I have personally used this machine and this is my review.

The DE-172AF is especially an upgraded Intelli-Fold DE-202AF or an upgraded Dynafold DE-202AF. It is essentially the same machine as the DE-202AF except the DE-172AF features the addition of an extremely useful exit conveyor. This powered exit conveyor helps slow and control paper as it exits the machine. This process also helps to stack paper as it exits the machine. A powered exit conveyor is nice for any folding job, but is especially nice for invoices, bills, statements and other material that needs to be kept in order.

The Intelli-Fold DE-172AF (by Intelli-Zone) may be one of the best 11″ x 17″ paper folding machines around. It is certainly one of the most affordable. While it can easily handle larger 11″ x 17″ paper, it can also be used to handle paper as small as 3.5″ x 5″. This makes the DE-172AF extremely versatile. Acceptable paper thicknesses range from 16# up to 24#. This is about the thickness of a sheet of copy paper.

Setting up the DE-172AF is extremely easy. It uses a series of 2 folding plates to complete the job. Both plates need to be manually set prior to folding. Folds, based on the paper size, are clearly marked on the folding plates. While the plates are manually adjusted, they are really easy to handle. I can personally adjust the plates in less than a minute.

Unlike many folding machines in this price range, the DE-172AF does not require paper to be pre fanned prior to being placed in the machine. Simply make sure the paper is squared up and put it in the machine. Because the DE-172AF can hold up to 500 sheets of paper, it doesn’t require much babysitting. Paper feeding is extremely smooth, accurate and aligned.

Having used this myself, I can tell you that the folded edge of the paper is extremely crisp and professional. Paper doesn’t look like it was manually folded, rather, it looks like it has come right out of a printing press. A variable speed dial lets you easily slow down or speed things up.

Many people ask me about the build quality. This is understandable as a lot of “plastic” folding machines have a bad habit of easily breaking down. The DE-172AF features a high-end build. Much of this machine is made out of metal. Not saying all Chinese stuff is low quality, but I think the fact that the DE-172AF is not made in China really helps iron out the fine wrinkles and electronics that plague other machines.

The DE-172AF can create 6 of the most common folds used today. These folds include:

  • Single (Half, V) Fold
  • Letter Fold (C Fold)
  • Z Fold (Accordion Fold)
  • Double Parallel Fold
  • Gate Fold
  • Half Accordion Fold (Engineering Fold)

Because the folding plates are manually adjusted, it is also very easy to create custom folds on this machine. I personally like using this machine. As long as you aren’t folding heavy card stock, this machine is probably perfect for you. You can find the Intelli-Fold DE-172AF here and our entire selection of paper folding machines here.

Are Dynafold and Intelli-Fold Paper Folding Machines the Same?

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Intelli-Fold DE-102AF Paper Folding MachineI recently had a customer ask me if Intelli-Fold and Dynafold where the same company. I can understand the confusion. Many (at least 50%) of the Dynafold machines available are duplicate clones (although built to different standards) than Intelli-Fold paper folders. The parts are even interchangeable on most of our models. I personally consider the Intelli-Fold to be a far better value. I’ll explain why.

As I earlier mentioned, many of the Dynafold machines are clones of Intelli-Fold machines. Here are a few examples:

Intelli-Fold DE-102AF – Dynafold Clone Model: DE-102AF
Intelli-Fold DE-202AF – Dynafold Clone Model: DE-202AF
Intelli-Fold DE-322AF – Dynafold Clone Model: DE-322AF

So why should you consider an Intelli-Fold over a Dynafold? I’ll give you a few good reasons.

  • Support – At ABC Office we back up and support every Intelli-Fold paper folder we sell. We can service them, provide you with replacement parts and give you customer support on every model. If you have an issue, call our Service Department at 1-800-658-8788 x129. We are literally more than happy to help you out!
  • Quality - While the Dynafold machines and Intelli-Fold machines are visually identical, don’t be tricked into thinking they are the same thing. I’ll be blunt. Dynafold has moved operations to China, which I can only assume is to save money. Intelli-Fold paper folders are still made in the original plant where the classic Dynafold machines used to be built. Intelli-Fold machines, in my opinion, are built to higher-quality standards.
  • Decor – Our line of Intelli-Fold paper folding machines use an office-friendly color scheme where many Dynafold machines use a circa 1970s brown and orange color layout.
  • Price – Intelli-Fold paper folding machines, built to the highest quality standards, are available to you at a lower price than the Dynafold counterparts. Why pay more when you can get something better for less?

So there you have it! Several good reasons why you should buy and Intelli-Fold paper folding machine over a Dynafold paper folding machine. You can find our entire selection of Intelli-Fold paper folding machines here and all our paper folding machines here.

Feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788 to speak with one of our paper folder specialists. They should be able to answer all your questions.

Intelli-Fold DF-304VC Pharmaceutical Paper Folding Machine Review

Monday, June 20th, 2011

Intelli-Fold DF-304VC Pharmaceutical Paper Folding MachineHave you ever wondered how those tiny little instructional sheets get folded up prior to placement in a bottle or box? This is done using a special type of machine commonly referred to as a pharmaceutical folding machine. As a kid, when assembling a new bicycle or other toy, I actually thought people manually folded those tiny instructions. As an adult, I realize that highly complex machines are used to do the job. If your business or manufacturing plant needs a machine, consider using the Intelli-Fold DEF-304VC pharmaceutical folding machine with vertical stacker. This is my review.

Most paper folding machines utilize two folding plates to create anything from a letter fold to an engineering fold. Machines with two folding plates are limited to 2 total creases the folded document. Additional folds can be created, on some machines, by running the material through twice.

Mini Folding / Pharmacy FoldingPharmaceutical folding machines have 4 folding plates. This dramatically increases the folding possibilities. The folding process, created by 4-plate machines, is often referred to as miniature folding or mini folding. This is because these machines can take a larger sheet of paper and fold it down into something small for placement in tight places or small packages. This includes pharmaceutical bottles and packaging.

While many standard folding machines create 6-8 common fold jobs out of the box, the Intelli-Fold DF-304VC can create 16 common folds along with a wide range of custom folds. You can disable 2 of the 4 plates, however, to create common folds as well.

The Intelli-Fold DF-304VC can take a sheet of paper at fold it down into something that is only 1″ wide. It folded down in another direction by utilizing the built-in scoring wheel. The end results are tiny instructional sheets that can conveniently be placed in a box or bottle.

The DF-304VC literally takes just seconds to complete a folding operation, versus minutes that it would take someone to manually do the same job. The motor on the DF-304VC runs at a whopping speed of 12,000 sheets per hour. To the best of my knowledge, there are no other 4-plate pharmaceutical folding machines capable of running at those speeds.

Each of the four folding plates is manually adjusted. It only takes about 30-60 seconds to adjust each plate (by a trained individual), making setup pretty fast. Once set, up to 500 sheets of 20# paper can be placed in the tray and the machine can be turned on. A friction roller is used to pull in paper and fold it. It can even be set up for batch folding purposes.

The Intelli-Fold DF-304VC uses a vertical stacker to take folded paper and tightly stack it for organizational purposes. The stacker is pretty impressive and far more efficient than a traditional exit conveyor. Be aware that the vertical stacker, with its own independent motor, must be turned on prior to turning on the folding machine itself.

One thing that really impresses me about the DF-304VC is the wide range of paper sizes it accepts. It can take paper ranging in size from 2 3/8″ x 2 3/4″ up to 11 ¼” x 17 3/4″. Again, few other pharmaceutical folding machines can do this.

As is the case with Intelli-Fold folding machines (by Intelli-Zone), the DF-304VC features an excellent build quality. All materials are designed for continuous operation. The folding plates, machine frame and many other components are made out of metal. The blue-gray design looks classy and blends in well with existing office equipment.

If you own a pharmaceutical manufacturing or distribution company, something like the DF-304VC is probably just what you need. This machine is dependable, reliable and available at a great price (considering what it does).

You can find the Intelli-Fold DEF-304VC pharmaceutical folding machine here and our entire selection of paper folding machines here.

Considering this is a family sophisticated machine, you may have questions that this article doesn’t cover. Please feel free to speak with one of our paper folding specialists by calling 1-800-658-8788.

Intelli-Bind IB150 Personal Comb Binding Machine Review

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Intelli-Bind IB150 Comb Binding MachineIf you’re not a bindery, or an office that binds dozens to hundreds of books a day, you may be fine with a binding machine that’s a little lower key. This may be 1-10 books a day. If this sounds like you, consider looking at the Intelli-Bind IB150 comb binding machine from Intelli-Zone. This is my review.

Intelli-Bind (by Intelli-Zone) is one of the most affordable and feature-per-dollar lines of binding machines available. Intelli-Bind binding machines cover the comb, wire and comb binding machine lines of bookbinding.

The Intelli-Bind IB150 is one of the cheapest (as in price) binding machines available online. As of this review, it costs just $52. While inexpensive, it can still be used to bind a 2″ book. It really finds its place with those who only need to bind a few books a day.

Using the Intelli-Bind IB150 is pretty straightforward. Take your paper, place it in the horizontal punch and pull the handle. The IB150 can punch 12 sheets of paper, although I would probably keep that around 6-8 sheets. Once the holes are punched, you can place your comb element in the comb opener fingers. Once the comb is opened, your punched paper can be inserted and the comb can then be closed. Voila! You have a bound booklet.

The Intelli-Bind IB150 can be used to bind presentations, reports, booklets and more. I have seen people use the IB150 to create cookbooks, phone directories, promotional literature and more. While the punching capacity isn’t extremely high, it can be used to punch report covers, clear covers and card stock (1 sheet at a time).

The Intelli-Bind IB150, unlike many similarly priced machines, can be used by lefties or righties. This is because it utilizes a “U” shaped handle that can be used from just about any angle. It can also be used by both hands, for faster paper punching. Just be careful that you don’t get over confident and start punching more paper than the machine can handle. That’s a quick rout to a broken machine.

This machine is fairly light, weighing in at 13 pounds shipped. What’s nice about the weight is that this machine can easily be picked up and moved around. This is especially nice if you need to store the binding machine and break it out every so often for the occasional job.

I have to say that I wish it had disengageable punching pins, however, if you are only binding letter-size presentations (8 ½” x 11″) you should be fine. It is designed to work with 19-ring plastic binding combs.

The build quality on the IB150 is actually pretty good. While it does have a plastic shell, a lot of the internal components are made out of metal. If treated well, and used to bind high-volumes of books, this machine should easily hold up for some time. I also have to mention that it looks pretty nice as well.

You can find the Intelli-Bind IB150 comb binding machine here and our entire selection of Intelli-Bind book binding machines here. We also carry a great selection of other binding machines found here.

Feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788 with any book binding questions.

Intelli-Bind IC21E Electric Coil Binding Machine Review

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Intelli-Bind IC21E Electric Coil Binding Machine Most coil binding machines look the same. This isn’t a bad thing, although quality does vary from one model to another. What most people want in a coil binding machine is simplicity, durability and quality. You get all three of these features in the new Intelli-Bind IC21E electric coil binding machine from Intelli-Zone. This is my review.

Intelli-Bind is a well-known brand of book binding machines, comparable to Tamerica and Akiles in functionality and quality. They currently make coil, comb and wire binding machines. Intelli-Bind is most known for its value. You can get a lot of machine for very little money.

The Intelli-Bind IC21E is a very unique coil binding machine, much different in appearance and use than comparable machines. To begin with, it doesn’t look like a binding machine. Having used this machine myself, I have to say that it almost looks closer in appearance to a printer. Simply put, it blends in well with existing office equipment.

The IC21E is an extremely compact and unobtrusive machine. Most binding machines feature a horizontal punch accompanied by a handle. If equipped, disengageable dies are usually exposed and in the open. The IC21E has a paper punch that literally folds up when not in use. When folded up, the disengageable dies are also covered. When ready, the punch opening can be pulled down and binding can begin. Not only is this design sleek, it helps keep dust out of critical machine components.

This binding machine features an electric punch that can handle up to 20 sheets of paper at a time. Because it is electric, punching capacity doesn’t depend on the strength of the operator. Simply insert your paper and press the punch button. In a few seconds, the paper will be punched and you can move along to the next stack of paper.

The electric punch punches paper in a 4:1 pitch hole pattern. This hole pattern is the most common used today, with supplies readily available. This equals out to 4 holes per inch of paper. Each of the 46 punching pins can be individually disabled, allowing for precise and professional custom book sizes. This also helps cut down on half-punched holes.  The finished results look great.

The punch on the Intelli-Bind IC21E can be easily adjusted to accommodate various book thicknesses. This is due in large part to the adjustable margin depth. A dial, located on the right side of the machine, makes margin depth adjustments extremely easy. Directly below the margin depth dial is the waste paper tray.

Once paper has been punched, coils can quickly be inserted through the holes by means of a built-in electric coil inserter. Simply manually feed the coil through the first 3-4 holes and let the inserter do the rest. The inserter spins coils through the holes in just seconds. Once inserted, excess coil can quickly be cut and crimped.

From start to finish, books can be bound on the IC21E in just minutes. It can bind books ranging in thickness from about ¼” up to 1 ¼”. It is versatile, practical and bet of all it’s affordable. I highly recommend this machine for medium-volume coil binding operations.

You can find the Intelli-Bind IC21E electric coil binding machine here and our entire selection of coil binding machines here.

Introducing the Intelli-Fold DE-122AF and DE-172AF Paper Folding Machines

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Intelli-Fold DE-172AF Paper Folding MachineWe are proud to announce the addition of the Intelli-Fold DE-112AF and DE-172AF paper folding machines (from Intelli-Zone) to our site. Both of these machines are perfect for office use and are available to you at an extremely affordable price. Featuring durable metal construction, multiple fold types and easy-to-use controls, we expect these new machines to be a hit with our customers.

For years Intelli-Fold paper folding machines have been popular with our customers. Formerly known as Dynafold, the Intelli-Fold DE-102AF and DE-202AF have been extremely popular for their durability and accuracy. The Intelli-Fold DE-112AF and DE-172AF are slightly updated versions of the popular DE-102AF and DE-202AF.

The DE-112AF is the successor to the DE-102AF. They are both essentially the same machine except the DE-112AF has the addition of a powered output conveyor. The same goes for the DE-172AF (with conveyor) and DE-202AF (no conveyor). A powered conveyor allows both of these machines to fold paper, while keeping organized and in order. This is ideal for businesses that do a lot of mailing or need to keep documents in alphabetical or numerical order.

We are very excited about these two new machines. Both are made from solid metal construction and are designed from the ground up to be used continuously throughout the day. You can find both of these machines here:

These machines are in stock and ready to ship today. If you have any questions, or would like to see one demonstrated online via your Web browser, please feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788. You can find our entire selection of paper folding machines here.

Intelli-Bind IM1000 Electric Binding Punch Video Demo

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Intelli-Bind IM1000 Electric Binding PunchWhile manually punching paper isn’t that bad, it can become tiresome when done on a large scale. If you are punching hundreds of sheets of paper per day, you may want to consider using a machine like the Intelli-Bind IM1000 electric binding punch. I recently had a chance to play around with this machine and shoot a video demo.

A question I often get is, “Why would I want a binding punch?” That’s a good question. The best answer I can provide is “volume.” Using an independent binding punch, along side an existing binding machine, can dramatically increase your punching capacity and output book binding volume.

The Intelli-Bind IM1000 is available upon purchase with your choice of punching die. This may be comb, wire, coil or coil in your choice of pitch. Other dies can be purchased. Because the dies are interchangeable, the Intelli-Bind IM1000 can easily be used along side just about any comb, wire or coil binding machine.

I was surprised how easy the IM1000 was to use. An included foot pedal makes hands free punching easy. If you don’t like using a foot pedal, you can also activate the electric punch by pushing a button found on the front of the machine.

The IM1000 is rated for punching up to 25 sheets of paper. I decided to put that to the test and it worked great. You can see a video demo of me using the Intelli-Bind IM1000 electric binding punch here.

So there you have it! The Intelli-Bind IM1000. This binding machine is affordable, powerful and excellent to have on hand for high-volume binding projects. You can find the Intelli-Bind IM1000 here and our entire selection of binding punches here.

Intelli-Bind 910 Comb, Coil & Wire Binding Station Video Demo

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Intelli-Bind 910 Wire, Comb & Coil Binding StationThere are several tips and tricks out there for speeding up binding operations, but one tool that seems to speed up the process the most is using an independent binding station. These stations may be a comb opener, a wire closer, an electric coil inserter or a combination of all three. The Intelli-Bind 910 binding station, from Intelli-Zone, features all three.

I have personally used this machine and have to say that I’m impressed with just how easy it is to use. I especially like the fact that it can be used alongside a comb, wire or coil binding machine. The build quality is great!

The wire closer is located on the back of the machine, the comb opener is in the middle and the electric coil inserter is located on the front. Using this binding station, along side a binding machine, can easily double your binding output.

Here is a great video demonstration of the Intelli-Bin 910 binding station.
