MBM Kutrimmer 1135 Guillotine Paper Trimmer Review

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

MBM Kutrimmer 1135 Guillotine Paper TrimmerAre you looking for a solid guillotine paper trimmer, but don’t know where to start? One model you may want to consider is the MBM Kutrimmer 1135 guillotine trimmer. I have had a chance to use this cutter and this is my review.

Having a fully stocked showroom definitely has its benefits. We have a great selection of Kutrimmer guillotine trimmers on display and I have had a chance to use several of them. After having used the Kutrimmer 1135, I have to say that my initial impressions are pretty good.

The Kutrimmer 1135 is designed much like the old wood-based Premier cutters but is a much more solid machine. This is because the Kutrimmer 1135 is made from metal. Everything from the base to the cutting arm is made out of metal. Not only that, but the build quality is very nice. Everything just seems to fit together well.

I suppose the build quality shouldn’t be a surprise. MBM’s Kutrimmer line of guillotine trimmers are German designed and German build. This doesn’t mean everything made in Germany is perfect, but those Germans do have a habit of designing things well.

The Kutrimmer 1135 is designed to cut up to 25 sheets of paper at a time. This number is based on standard 20# copy paper. Naturally the thicker the paper, the fewer sheets you will be able to cut.

Unlike guillotine trimmers of old, the Kutrimmer 1135 cuts paper straight every time. This is due in large part to the premium solingen cutting blade and the clamping mechanism that keeps the paper in place. These two features make the Kutrimmer 1135 just about as accurate as a rotary paper cutter.

Guillotine paper trimmers have a reputation of being unsafe to use due to exposed blades. This is no longer a concern. The Kutrimmer 1135 has several safety features built in that prevent fingers from accessing the blade. One of these safety features is a Lexan safety shield. Another safety feature is that the clamping mechanism doesn’t allow anything over the thickness of 25 sheets of paper underneath.

Overall I have to say that the Kutrimmer 1135 is an excellent multi-purpose cutter. It can be used to cut paper, photographs, card stock and more.

MBM Kutrimmer 1038 Paper Cutter Review

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

MBM Kutrimmer 1038 Guillotine Paper TrimmerAre you in need of a versatile, multi-purpose paper cutter that can be used to cut photographs, paper, laminated material and more? Guillotine paper trimmers are great multip-purpose cutters and the Kutrimmer 1038 may be a model you should consider using. I have used this paper cutter and this is my review.

You may remember the good ol’ days of the wooden base guillotine trimmers. They were rickety, often dull and seemed to always cut paper crooked. Gone are those days. The MBM Kutrimmer 1038 uses a similar method for cutting paper, but is improved 10 fold.

The MBM Kutrimmer 1038 by Ideal is made entirely of metal. The base is metal, the arm is metal and the cutting blade is made from a high quality alloy. The build quality is top notch and it is extremely stable. Gone are the days of crooked arm cutters.

The MBM Kutrimmer 1038 is capable of cutting up to 50 sheets of paper. This isn’t difficult to do. Many “dull” cutters require a lot of force to cut the paper. The 1038 requires little effort and the razor-sharp blade easily cuts through the paper.

Don’t be concerned about the razor-sharp blade. The Kutrimmer 1038 features a plexiglass guard that prevents bodily injury. You can see this guard in the photograph.

One of the biggest improvements in the Kutrimmer 1038 versus other cutters is the clamping mechanism. One of the reasons cuts on this machine are so straight and accurate (other than the sharp blade) is that the clamping mechanism keeps the paper still and in place.

The Kutrimmer 1038 also includes an easy-to-use sliding guide that makes it easy to adjust the cutter for measured cutting. The base includes a lined guide for common paper sizes. A catch tray on the side of the cutter keeps cut pieces of trimmed paper in place for easy cleanup.

Mobility with the Kutrimmer 1038 is pretty easy. It weighs in at 29 pounds, which means it’s very easy to move around and can be used on almost any surface.

Overall I consider this to be a pretty nice cutter and highly recommend it. You can find the MBM Kutrimmer 1038 here. You can find our entire selection of guillotine paper trimmers here.

MBM, Ideal, Destroyit, Triumph and Kutrimmer – One in the Same?

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

MBM Office Equipment and MachinesThere is a lot of confusion out there when it comes to brand names and which one is associated with another. MBM is an common example of this. We recently had a customer ask us what the difference was between the Ideal 2602 shredder and the Destroyit 2602 shredder. I went on to tell her that they are the same shredder by the same company, with MBM being the manufacturer.

MBM is one of the leading manufacturers of office automation equipment in the world today. MBM manufactures paper folders, collators, business card cutters, paper drills and much more. You can find our entire selection of MBM products here.

MBM’s parent company is IDEAL Krug & Priester of Germany. IDEAL Krug & Priester is well known for manufacturing German engineered and built paper shredders and paper cutters.

This is a list of the brands that MBM (IDEAL) manufactures:

Destroyit – This is MBMs line of paper shredders. They are often referred to as Destroyit shredders by IDEAL. This is why many people use Destroyit and IDEAL interchangeably. You can find Destroyit paper shredders here.

Triumph Stack Paper Cutter from IdealTriumph - This is MBMs line of stack (ream) paper cutters. As with Destroyit, Triumph paper cutters are often referred to as Triumph by IDEAL. Many people refer to these paper cutters as both Triumph and IDEAL cutters. You can find our Triumph cutters here.

Kutrimmer - This is MBMs line of arm cutters, sometimes referred to as guillotine cutters. These, as with Triumph, are sometimes referred to as Kutrimmer by IDEAL. Customers refer to these as Kutrimmer or IDEAL cutters. You can find our Kutrimmer paper trimmers here.

IDEAL – As previously mentioned, IDEAL Krug & Priester is the parent company of MBM and is often linked to Destroyit, Triumph and Kutrimmer branding.

When you call us, we will understand what you mean regardless of whether you refer to a shredder as an MBM shredder, Destroyit shredder or IDEAL shredder. Hopefully this hasn’t all been too confusing. Have a question? Post it here!
