I can personally vouch for the effectiveness and usefulness of pallet jacks. I worked in a grocery store for two years and used a pallet jack every week to haul new food into the store. Quality and dependability are a couple features you really need to have in a pallet jack.

The Interthor ETT52748 (Thork Truck) is considered an economy pallet jack. This is because it provides you with everything you need to get the job done, but isn’t considered to be lavish (chrome, brushed steel finish, etc.). It is affordable and simple to use. The ETT52748 is pretty much maintenance free and requires no special care.

This pallet jack has a maximum 5,500-pound lifting capacity, which isn’t bad for a pallet jack. It is completely manually operated, but thanks to high quality bearings, moving products around is extremely easy to do. It can be lowered down to just 2.9 inches, making it possible for the ETT52748 to get under most pallets.

There are few things more frustrating than trying to haul a pallet, but being unable to make it around a corner. The ETT52748 has an impressive 230-degree turning angle. This makes it possible for the Interthor ETT52748 to be used in fairly tight and constrained spaces.

Operating the hydraulic lift on the ETT52748 is very easy and comparable to other pallet jacks. Simply slide the jack under the pallet you need to lift, engage the hydraulic lift with a lever built into the handle and begin pumping the handle as you would a manual hydraulic jack. Lowering the pallet is just as easy. Simply disengage the hydraulics with the same lever.

The build quality on the ETT52748 economy pallet jack is excellent. It features rugged metal construction and is designed for daily use. It should easily last you for years to come.

Platform trucks are extremely useful to have on hand in a warehouse. They can be used to haul equipment, boxes and more. One big problem I have found with many platform trucks is that they can be bulky and get in the way. One solution to this is to use a collapsible platform truck.

Collapsible platform trucks allow the operator to take the handle and fold them down so that they’re level with the bed of the platform truck. If you have ever worked on a car, you know how much strain can be put on your back and knees. This is especially the case when working on the wheel of your car, whether it is changing brakes, calipers, struts, ball joints or tie rods. When kneeling is involved, you should really use some sort of a shop stool, preferably one with casters. These wonderful devices have been a lifesaver for me.

Another thing that shop stools are great for is keeping tools organized and close. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have worked on a car, only to find the tools are on the other side of the car, under the car or I’m sitting on them. It’s almost as if they are able to get up and walk away. Shop stools usually have convenient shelves where you can place tools.

Just yesterday I was changing out a leaky rear brake caliper on my ’87 VW GTI mk2 (great car by the way). Having a stool to sit on kept me cleaner, kept my box wrenches in reach and made the entire process simple. Shop stools are a great time saver.

Not only do back injuries cost employers money, they also result in painful back issues that often last a lifetime. So how can you combat the possibility of a back injury? Back support belts and proper education are a couple of ways to help.

Back support belts and braces are both a preventative and a treatment tool. One of the biggest benefits of back support belts is their ability to provide added posture support and back stability. Incorrect posture, while lifting, is a significant factor when it comes to back injuries.

Back support belts and braces are also ideal for use with someone who has previously experienced a back injury. The belt helps provide added support, especially when someone is dealing with a torn muscle or other back injury.

A back support belt will not work if you are using an incorrect belt size. If the belt is too big, it will not provide any support, and if it is too small, it will not provide correct support (not to mention small belts are very uncomfortable). It is also a good idea to try several different styles of belts. Some people will find more benefits with one design over another.

Back support belts should be properly tightened when heavy lifting occurs, but do not need to be “cinched-up” at all times. Why is this? A belt that is cinched, when no lifting is being done, can result in employee complaints and discomfort. This may result in improper use of the belt or lack of a belt when it is really needed.

Back support belts also help with preventing abdominal injuries while lifting. Why is this? Most back support belts wrap around to the front, helping provide muscle support to the abdominal wall. This helps cut down on abdominal ruptures and tears. Be aware, however, that back support belts are more of a preventative measure than a treatment for abdominal injuries.

You may have heard this thousands of times, but simple lifting practices will help more than any belt. This includes proper posture and lifting with the knees, not the back.
