630 Series Optical Mark Recognition Specifications
|
|
DESCRIPTION
The 630 Series OMR options allow the ability to add powerful Optical Mark Recognition capabilities.
By printing marks on each page of varying multiple page sets, the 630 Series with OMR can electronically determine which pages are part of a set and belong together, then automatically accumulate, fold and insert the sets of pages into an envelope.
Other features include the ability to selectively feed documents, divert prior to folding, and check page and set security. |
 |
|
FEATURES
- Ability to divert documents in stream prior to folding, for special handling documents or sets which are too thick to be folded.
- Single track code for OMR requiring less space on documents.
- Read OMR marks from any feed station.
- Quick OMR set up and job change due to comprehensive programmable jobs.
- User friendly display featuring clear English prompts and messages.
- Additional features include selective feeding from up to 3 other feeders, sequence check for added security, ability to read diverse code programming and more.
|
APPLICATIONS
- Process envelopes that contain a variable number of sheets per set, an application example is the insertion of bank statements, which vary in size depending on number of checks or transactions by bank customer.
- Achieve a high level of security making sure no document is sent to the wrong addressee.
- Customize mailings e.g. send information about products, services to certain parts of customer’s database by means of selective feeding (IE. Welcome new customer letter to new customers).

Minimum character length is 6.3 mm or 3 characters. We found that using the bold/underline ( ___ ) for marks works best. Mark width should be greater than ¼ inch, preferably between 3/8 and ½ inch. Example on next pages. Mark spacing can be 4 to 10 LPI, 6 or 8 LPI is recommended.

Complementary notes:
- When some functions are not used, marks will shift (move) up.
- Selective enclosures only feed from stations where it is not required to read. (not used by you)
- Divert and continue and Divert and stop features are mutually exclusive.
OPERATION WITH OMR COMMENTS
Cascade operation :
- It is possible to have all 4 feeders loaded with material to be read and use the cascade mode for optimum productivity.
Divert operation :
- The system will divert a set either if an error is detected or based on a divert mark.
- If it is set to continue after divert it will look for the next end of set mark to continue mail processing.
- Sets with more pages than desired (overflow setting) will also be diverted.
Mark Code Example – An example of how they will look on your documents, except not all marks will be printed on all documents if desired. This will demand personalization of the software per customer. (i.e, if customer A decides not to use selective feeding, it can the software can decide to leave four positions blank permanently or move all positions below the selective feeds upwards.)
Stacking
The documents will be fed from the top of the stack, face up and (top) address leading for insertion in window envelopes. The first page should be at the top of the stack (natural order).

1 - Start Mark: on each document, in exactly the same position (column/row).
2 – Insert Mark; only on the last sheet to be fed (last page of a set).
3 – Divert and Continue (or Stop) if you have documents which you want taken off the mailing.
4 , 5, 6,7 – Selective feeding from other feeding stations. On the 630 Series only the first three are valid and to be used since this system has a total of 4 feeding stations. The selective feed marks can be printed on the just the last page of a set or every page.
8,9,10 -- Sequence Marks; can use one, two, three or none. Sequence in the stack (complete print) adds safety to the operation. Note: this process counts from 0 to 7 continually and does not start at 0 or 1 for a new set.
11 – Parity Mark: is the “check digit of the code. Highly recommended for safety. The mark will be printed (or not) to make the total number of printed marks EVEN. The count includes the Safety Mark, explained below. The parity mark ensures that the reader did not miss any marks in the dongle. The parity mark is not necessary.
12 – Safety Mark: used as extra safety sometimes also called Stop Mark. Like the Start Mark, when used, it is always printed and always in the same location. The safety mark tells the reader that it has read the last mark in a dongle.
