Rotary Paper Cutter & Trimmer FAQ
|
Do all rotary paper cutters use round blades?
Most rotary paper cutters use round blades, but some lower-end and entry level cutters use a razor blade type device that cuts through paper as force is applied.
Can rotary paper cutter blades be sharpened?
Many rotary paper cutters have self-sharpening blades. This means that as the blade rolls against the base, the blade is sharpened. While this does extend the life of the blade, ultimately a rotary blade cannot be removed and sharpened.
Can rotary paper cutter blades be replaced?
Replacement rotary blades and housings are available for all paper cutters we sell. Replacement is easy and does not usually require any special tools.
Do rotary paper cutters have clamps?
Most rotary paper cutters utilize some sort of plastic clamping mechanism. The clamp is activated as the cutting head applies pressure to the clamp during the cutting process. This keeps paper in place while being cut.
Can all rotary paper cutters cut photographs?
Most rotary trimmers can cut photographs. The accuracy of the rotary paper trimmer does vary, depending on the make, model and construction. The shape of the cutting bar and the amount of cutting bars are the biggest factor in stability. Rotary paper trimmers are still considered the best method of cutting photographs.
Why do some paper cutters have one or two bars?
Most rotary paper cutters have one bar, but some have two. Two bars give the cutting head more stability and provide for a more accurate cut. You can see an example of a double-bar system here.
Is there a difference between a round or square bar on a rotary paper cutter?
Among single-bar trimmers there are differences in the shape of the bar. A square bar will be more accurate than a round bar as it eliminates play in the cutting head. You can see an example of a square bar system here.
Are there motorized rotary paper cutters?
Some higher-end rotary paper cutters, used for cutting banners, maps, architectural plans and other large documents, have motors. These motors are usually activated by use of a foot pedal. You can see a motorized rotary paper cutter here.
Can rotary paper cutters be mounted to a wall?
Some rotary cutters can be mounted to the wall. Look in the "Features" of the product page to see if this is a possibility.
What is the best rotary paper cutter?
There is no best rotary paper cutter, but we do have several customer favorites. Carl paper cutters are very popular with scrapbookers. Neolt and Rotatrim cutters are very popular with photographers.
