Akiles ProLam Plus 330 Pouch Laminator Review

Akiles ProLam Plus 330 Pouch LaminatorAre you in need of a quality pouch laminator capable of getting the job done right the first time? One laminator you may want to consider using is the Akiles ProLam Plus 330 pouch laminator (found here). I have had the chance to use this machine and this is my review.

Akiles is one of the best known and most highly recognized manufacturers of book binding machines. Many people don’t realize this, but they also make a great line of pouch laminators all branded as the ProLam. These laminators are very popular and even rival the GBC HeatSeal line.

The ProLam Plus 300 is one of Akiles higher-end pouch laminators. You’ll know as soon as you pick it up that it isn’t a cheap plastic laminator. The build quality is exceptional. The user-interface is simple, but provides all the features you will probably ever need.

The ProLam Plus gets the “Plus” tacked onto its name thanks to the dual heat system. The ProLam Plus uses heated rollers and a heated plat to warm up the laminating film. Why is this advantageous? Laminating film enters and exits a pouch laminator in just seconds. During that short period of time, adequate heat is needed to properly warm up the glue. Incorrectly heated laminators result in many types of flaws and blemishes.

While often overlooked, the Akiles ProLam Plus is an attractive machine, featuring a dual color metal cover. This “look” allows the ProLam Plus to fit in with existing furniture and does not stick out like a soar thumb.

One of my favorite features of the Akiles ProLam Plus is the control interface. It has broken up what many laminators do in one switch into three different switches. This means you can turn the heat on and off, turn the laminator on and off and adjust the motor’s forward / reverse function independently. This allows the laminator to last a lot longer because not everything has to be running simultaneously between jobs. It also has an adjustable temperature control knob.

You can use the ProLam Plus 300 to laminate photographs, menus, signs, cards and much more. The heat distribution is so precise that the film comes out crystal clear every time. No more bubbles, cloudiness or waves. The 13-inch wide mouth accepts all standard paper sizes. This wider format also helps cut down on misfeeds and jams.

To conclude, I have to say the ProLam Plus 300 is one of my favorite pouch laminators in the market today for high-volume commercial pouch laminating.  This laminator has a great track record with our customers.
