Martin Yale 2051 SmartFold Paper Folding Machine Review

Martin Yale 2051 SmartFold Paper Folding MachineDoes your business or organization have the need for a high-volume paper folding machine that can keep up with your daily operations? You may need an automatic commercial paper folder. One model you may have looked at is the Martin Yale 2051 SmartFold paper folding machine (found here). I have used this machine and this is my review.

As far as paper Martin Yale paper folding machines are concerned, the 2051 SmartFold is relatively new to their lineup. It is currently called the Martin Yale 2051 SmartFold, however, it has also been called the Intimus 2051 SmartFold. Martin Yale owns Intimus and it seems they can’t make up their mind as to which brand they want to put on their machines.

Martin Yale has several folding machine hits under their belt. This includes the ever popular 1501X (CV7), the 1217A and the 959. Martin Yale paper folding machines have been around for some time and have proven to be reliable machines. The 2051 SmartFold has several improvements that I personally prefer over their older machines.

To begin with, you don’t have to fan paper prior to placing it in the 2051 SmartFold. This saves time and prevents paper jams. The paper hopper on this folding machine holds 500 sheets of 8 ½” x 11″ paper (20# thick). The thicker the paper, the fewer the amounts of sheets you can place in the 2051 SmartFold.

The Martin Yale 2051 SmartFold can handle a wide range of paper, which is really nice if you are folding a variety of different sizes and thicknesses. It can fold paper ranging in size from 2.5″ x 5.2″ to 12″ x 18″. It can fold paper ranging in thickness from 18 lb. bond to 90 lb. index. These specs are very impressive for a paper folding machine.

The 2051 SmartFold is what’s referred to as an automatic paper folding machine. This is because no manual setup is required apart from pressing a few buttons. There is no need to remove and manually adjust the folding plates. Simply select the fold you need, from the list of 7 common preset folds, and the machine will adjust itself. This is especially nice for speed and accuracy. It is capable of storing up to 10 custom folds.

Many paper folding machines sound like a machine gun going off when they are running at full speed. While it is impossible to completely silence a paper folder, the 2051 SmartFold has been designed to run quieter than other comparable machines.

A total of 7 different sensors and indicators have been placed throughout the machine to alert you to any jams or possible issues. This is nice for diagnostics purposes and will help extend the life of your machine when a jam actually does occur.

The exit tray on the Martin Yale 2051 SmartFold features a powered conveyor. This is ideal for keeping paper organized. Unlike many cheaper machines that simply have a catch tray, the 2051 SmartFold keeps paper in order.

Overall I like the 2051 SmartFold. It has a sleek design that blends in well with just about any office. The fact that it is automatic and easy to set up is a huge plus in my book. I would rate this machine about 4 out of 5 stars.
