Dahle 20453 High Capacity Level 3 Paper Shredder Review

Dahle 20453 Cross Cut High Capacity Paper ShredderDo you need a paper shredder that is fast, secure, capable of shredding large volumes of paper and can handle CDs, DVDs, credit cards, you may want to consider a machine like the Dahle 20453 high capacity cross cut shredder (found here). There are many reasons why your business or organization may need a high capacity shredder. This is my review.

Dahle manufactures some of the best German paper shredders available today. This includes home office, departmental, high security and high capacity shredders. Dahle shredders are known for being quiet, solid and very reliable.

The Dahle 20453 can be categorized as a high capacity or industrial shredder. While there are larger shredders that can shred hundreds of sheets of paper at a time, this particular shredder can shred 65 sheets of 20# paper at a time. This is very impressive. Not only does this shredder have a high-capacity shredding capability, it is also fast.

Let me focus on the motor. As mentioned earlier, it is fast. It runs at a speed of 42 feet per minute. I am personally impressed with shredders that run at 20 feet per minute and the Dahle 20453 is double that speed. The 20453 uses a 3 phase, 208 VAC motor that puts out 4 hp. That’s tough.

The motor is thermally protected. That means it will not overheat with continued use. This is especially ideal for departmental and business use where shredders are run and operated on a continuous basis.

The solid steel cutting cylinders cut paper at a level 3 security level. This ends up being about 1/8″ x 3 1/8″. This security level is more than adequate for most office shredding needs. A large 50-gallon bin holds shredded particles. In case you aren’t familiar with shredders, a 50-gallon bin is huge. This means fewer bag changes for you.

The Dahle 20453 uses a hopper-style feed tray. This means you can take a garbage can of paper and dump it into the hopper for convenient shredding. It also means you can take a stack of paper and toss it into the hopper as well. Many businesses prefer a hopper on the shredder simply because it is convenient and faster than trying to organize paper to fit through a slot.

This particular shredder is an ideal replacement to an expensive shredding service. I personally consider using a shredder like the Dahle 20453 to be far more secure, and in the long run less expensive, than using a shredding service.

As is the case with all Dahle shredders, the 20453 is extremely secure. It utilizes safety controls and is built from the ground up to be safe and secure.

The build quality on the Dahle 20453 is excellent. Metal construction makes this shredder extremely durable and a series of fold out tables / shelves make it easy to shred stacks of paper. I recommend this for any business, office, department or mailroom where high-volumes of paper are shredded on a daily basis.

Banner American Easy-Lam II 27″ Roll Laminator Review

Banner American Easy-Lam II 27" Roll LaminatorWhen a school, church or business is shopping around for a roll laminator, the Banner American Easy-Lam II 27″ roll laminator is usually at the top of the list. That is because the Easy Lam is affordable, easy to use and can be used to laminate posters, signs, banners and other material. This is my review.

I have personally used the Easy-Lam II. At first glance, it is a little intimidating. The machine itself is fairly large, measuring in at 48″ L x 40″ W x 26″ H. Don’t be too worried though. After familiarizing myself with the machine it is actually pretty easy to set up and use.

I believe the Easy-Lam II finds its stride when laminating multiple smaller documents. It can easily laminate posters, don’t get me wrong, but it can also be used to laminate multiple 8 ½” x 11″ documents at a time. This was especially beneficial for me when I was laminating large volumes of business cards.

Not only does the Easy-Lam II laminate documents, but it can also be used to mount material up to ¼” thick. This means you can easily mount photos, posters, signs and other material onto ¼” foam core board without any problems.

It warms up pretty fast. After plugging it in, it took about 15 minutes to be fully warmed up. This isn’t bad for a roll laminator. A built-in thermometer lets you know exactly what the temperature is. This is especially nice when trying to get the temperature just right for the film you are using. The thermometer, combined with an adjustable heat control, makes getting the “right” temperature very easy.

One of the most feared processes of owning a roll laminator is changing the film. Many people dread doing it. I have personally changed the film on this laminator and I have to say that it wasn’t bad. It was easy to place the film on the mandrels and wind it through the laminator. The Easy-Lam II uses a drop-down idler bar that makes it exceptionally easy to load new laminating film.

While the Easy-Lam II can use film up to 27″ wide, it can also be used with smaller rolls of film as well. It can be used with laminating film ranging from 1.5 mils up to 3 mils thick.

This laminator also features:

  • Reverse motor switch
  • Safety shield
  • Teflon coated heat shoes
  • Silicone laminating rollers
  • Heavy-duty DC motor
  • Adjustable feed table guide

The build quality on this laminator seems to be right where it should be. We had an Easy-Lam II roll laminator on our showroom floor for several years and it always worked every time we used it just like the day we unboxed it.

This laminator, however, is not a high-volume machine. It is probably best used for low to medium-volume projects. The motor, while tough, runs at a speed of 5.5’ per minute. I recommend this laminator for school use, church use, copy center use and low-volume business use.
