Save Time and Money by Creating Your Own Custom Business Cards

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

If you want to be able to create your own in-house business cards quickly and efficiently, I recommend you use a business card slitter. These slitters are far faster than using a pair of scissors or a pair cutter and create straight and accurate lines every time. One of the most affordable ways to do this is by using the the Akiles Cardmac Plus Electric and Manual Business Card Slitter.

I would like to cover exactly how the Cardmac Plus Business Card Slitter works. To begin with, this is a 10-up business card cutter. That means that it will cut 10 total business cards from a standard 8 ½” x 11″ sheet of paper. Ten up and 12-up are the two most common cutting patterns. There are 10-up business card templates available online in the event you don’t already have one. We also offer a 10-up templates.

Most people simply use their own computer and laser / inkjet printer to create the business cards. Using a 10-up template, data is entered such as contact information, logo and other pertinent information. Once these have been printed out, the can be cut down on the Cardmac Plus. Most people print their cards out on standard paper or light card stock. The Cardmac Plus can cut paper up to 350 GSM

Using the Cardmac Plus is extremely easy and anyone should be able to use it.

Creating a business card on this machine takes two steps. First you load your paper vertically in the machine and it will automatically feed it through the slitters. Once the paper has made its way through, you can take the two cut columns (two columns of 5 cards each) and insert them horizontally into the machine. This is where the sheets are cut into individual cards. I have used this machine and it is remarkably easy to use and I personally feel that the results turned out very well.

Here is a video demo of the Cardmac Plus business card cutter in action.

The Cardmac Plus is a great way to create custom business cards at a low economical price. For this price, and considering what you would otherwise have to pay at a print shop, this handy device will quickly pay for itself. You also can’t overlook the convenience factor on this machine. You can make your own business cards on the fly. You won’t ever have to worry about running out. While people may say business cards are a thing of the past, the fact is that they are still commonly used and won’t be going away anytime soon.

Please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-658-8788 for with any questions you may have about this machine. A comparable machine to the Cardmac Plus is the Akiles CardMac Pro. You can find our entire selection of business card slitters here.

How Do Induction Cap Sealers Work?

Monday, July 22nd, 2013

Induction Cap Sealers / Foil Lid Sealing MachinesWe recently added a couple new induction cap sealers to our site (found here). While I was familiar with what they did, I didn’t really understand how the technology worked. These sealers are the machines that place the protective foil seal to the top of bottles. This includes such products as food, cosmetics and much more. After having thoroughly researched this, I would like to share with you exactly how these machines work.

Induction cap sealers are used with just about every consumable product you use. These sealers produce a tamper proof seal that helps preserve freshness, prevent leaks, provide tamper evidence, helps with pilferage protection and extend shelf life. You may have seen a sign on the top of these seals that says something to the effect, “Do not use if seal is broken”. The technology used to apply these seals is remarkably clever and efficient.

Induction Foil Bottle SealThe seal they apply to the opening of a glass or plastic container is usually made out of a foil barrier, although other materials can be used. The foil consists of a few layers of laminated products and uses a sealing resin or a polymer to produce the seal. This results in a very sturdy and durable seal that won’t break or fall off.

It’s amazing how much these seals are used in products we handle every day. Just this week I changed the oil on my car and the quart bottles each had a foil seal. The yogurt I ate this morning had a foil seal. I even opened up a new bottle of ketchup this week and it too had an induction sealed foil cap.

So how does this technology work? It is remarkably simple and there are no moving parts during any part of the sealing process. The first step involved is to insert a seal into the lid of the product being sealed. This can be manually done or automatic, depending on the packaging system being used. Once the lid is screwed on (manually or automatic), the bottle is run under an induction sealer.

The induction sealer uses electrical current run through induction coils to produce a strong electromagnetic field. This field causes the foil to heat up, which in turn causes the membrane (using sealing resin or polymer) to seal to the top of the bottle. The process is extremely fast, usually only taking a few seconds. Because an electrometric is used, you should only use this type of sealing process with plastic or glass containers. Do not use this with metal containers.

Example of Induction Foil Cap Seal on BottleInduction cap sealers range in size from tabletop units to full blown automatic production-level machines. At ABC Office we offer semi-automated. We currently offer two models, but expect this to increase. Here are the two models currently offered on our site:

  • AF-500W Induction Cap Sealer (found here) – This particular model is designed to be used with containers that have a diameter opening ranging from 15mm up to 120mm. The height of the sealer can be adjusted to accommodate the bottle being sealed. Simply place your bottle on the platform, press the foot pedal and in just a few seconds the process is complete.
  • CS-501 Induction Cap Sealer (found here) – This induction sealer is very similar to the AF-500W, but is more robust. Instead of a 500-watt power supply, this one has an 1100 watt power supply. It also includes the addition of a cap sealer, which will automatically screw on the cap and inductively seal the membrane to the container’s opening.

Our induction bottle cap sealers are designed to seal the foil membrane without any scorching and zero leaks. They can even apply a seal to the lid of small amounts of liquid or powder are on the rim of the bottle. These sealers are tough, designed to be used on a daily basis. They also have a small footprint and don’t require any special training to use.

If you still have questions about induction cap sealers, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-658-8788. We would love to help you out.

New Gravity Drop Sealers Now on ABC Office

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

Preferred Pack PP615-402 Gravity Drop SealerHave you ever wondered how food, such as tortillas, is packaged in those bags you see at the grocery store? Much of it is done by using a gravity drop sealer (found here). These same sealers are also used to package T-shirts, towels, books and much more. If you are in the market for a drop sealer, or if you are just curious how they work, I would like to introduce you to two new models we just added to our site. These are the Preferred Pack PP615-402 (found here) and the PP620-405 (found here). I would like to cover exactly what these machines do and include a video.

Gravity drop conveyors are special packaging machines that use gravity to help package products in a bag. In a nutshell, a product is placed in a bag, then sealed and finally dropped into a catch tray or bin. This process is repeated over and over as products are packaged throughout the day.

The new Preferred Pack drop sealers we just added take this process a step further by automating much of it. Our drop sealers include the addition of a bag opener, to help facilitate the packaging process. The bag sealer takes a bag from the top of a stack and opens it using forced air. A product is then inserted into this bag where it is slid down a gravity slide. Special holding pins help prevent the bag from sliding the rest of the way down. A sealing jaw then seals the bag shut and cuts off excess plastic. These machines then use a burst of air to clear off the excess plastic, after which the holding pins are released, allowing the bag to continue its journey into a catch tray.

Here is a video demo of one of these new drop sealers in action with tortillas:

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

As you can see the process has been streamlined and is remarkably easy to do. This is a must have tool if you are packaging a lot of food (or non-food) items on a daily basis. The packaging is extremely professional and the end results (including the seal) hold up well with handling.

We currently offer two different versions of this drop sealer on our site. These include:

  • Preferred Pack PP615-402 (found here) – This version of the drop sealer includes the bag opener and includes a sealer that can be used with bags up to 15″ wide. It can be operated at a speed of up to 25 bags per minute. It can be used with a bag up to 10 mil thick.
  • Preferred Pack PP620-405 (found here) – This version of the drop sealer also includes a bag opener and features the ability to seal bags up to 20″ wide. Like the smaller model, this can also be used to package about 25 bags a minute. This model can also be used with packaging bags of up to 10 mil thick.

Both of these gravity drop sealers feature a warranty that guarantees they will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for two years. If you have any questions about these sealers, please feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788. You can find our entire selection of packaging machinery here.

Akiles CardMac Business Card Cutter Review

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

Akiles CardMac Business Card Slitter & CutterHave you ever wanted to create your own in-house business cards, but didn’t quite know where to start? The process is remarkably easy. All you need is a template for your computer, a printer and a business card cutter to finish the job. The business card making process is remarkably fast and is an effective method for individuals and small businesses to create their own cards. One line of machines you should consider using is the CardMac from Akiles (found here). There are four different versions to choose from.

Before you pick a business card cutter (aka slitter), you will need to answer two questions. First off, do you need a full bleed business card cutter and secondly do you want the machine to be manual or electric. I would like to go into more details on what a full bleed is.

Full Bleed Business Card – If you want color on your entire business card, from edge to edge, you are going to need a business card cutter that can cut out your cards without any white margin showing. Full bleed business cards use a special gutter cut template that allows bleeding of color over the edges, allowing for edge-to-edge color. The template for a full-bleed card is more complex than a standard business card template and requires a business card cutter capable of trimming out the cards. You cannot effectively create full bleed business cards with a standard no-bleed business card cutter.

No Bleed Business Cards – These are your more traditional business cards and feature a template with a mostly-white background. These business cards usually feature a logo, a name, some text and some contact information. They can feature rich colors, but don’t rely on the ability or need to print color all the way to the edge of the card.

Full Bleed Busienss Card Using Gutter Cut Pattern & Standard Business Card Pattern

So as mentioned before, Akiles offers four different CardMac business card cutters. Two are electric, two are full bleed and two are no bleed. I would like to cover each of these four models in some detail.

MANUAL AKILES CARDMAC

  • Akiles CardMac ACM-NB No Bleed Business Manual Card Cutter (found here) – This is a manual business card slitter that features the ability to cut cards by either turning a hand crank or a dial (both included). This cutter is designed for use with no bleed business cards using a 12-up business card template pattern. Simply print your cards, insert them into the feed tray and start turning the handle. This business card cutter requires two passes to create the cards. This can be later upgraded to an electric machine.
  • Akiles CardMac ACM-B Bleed Business Manual Card Cutter (found here) – This is almost the same as the above-mentioned machine, but uses a cutting pattern designed to handle full bleed business cards. It can be used with paper up to 0.3mm thick (12 mil). This machine uses a 10-up business card pattern. Like the ACM-NB, this machine can also be upgraded to an electric unit. The finished card size is 2″ x 3.5″.

ELECTRIC AKILES CARDMAC

  • Akiles CardMac ACM-EB / ACM-ENB Electric Business Card SlitterAkiles CardMac ACM-ENB No Bleed Electric Business Card Cutter (found here) – If you need a little added speed and a little less manual involvement, the ACM-ENB electric business card slitter is a great option. This cutter is designed for use with no bleed business cards and features a 12-up cutting pattern. Like the manual versions of these cutters, this model still requires two passes of the card. This is pretty much the same as the ACM-NB, but with the optional electric motor already attached.
  • Akiles CardMac ACM-EB Bleed Electric Business Card Cutter (found here) – If you need a full bleed electric business card cutter, the ACM-EB is the model you will need. This Akiles CardMac has a motor attached to the side. Load up your 10-up pattern full bleed business cards into the slitter and let the sheet run through (vertically). Then take those and run them through the machine again to finish the business card process. This equals out to be about 60 cards per minute.

The only real weakness I have found with these business card cutters is that they use friction to pull paper into the machine for cutting. This is excellent when cutting standard finish paper and card stock, but may cause some slippage with glossy or coated paper.

If you have additional questions about these machines, please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-658-8788. You can find our entire selection of business card cutters and slitters here.

Traco Wand SuperSealer Shrink Wrap Machines now Available

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

Traco Wand SuperSealer Shrink Wrap MachinesWe are proud to announce the addition of Traco Wand SuperSealer shrink wrap machines (found here) to our site. We have offered their fixed I-bar models for over a decade and they have been a best seller for years. We are excited to have this new addition to our lineup of shrink wrap machines and expect them to be very popular with people who need a wand style sealer for packaging products for storage or retail sale. Here are just a few things you may not know about the Traco wand sealers.

To begin with, we are offering the wand sealers in three different sizes. These are 24″, 32″ and 40″. The size you use will depend entirely on what you are packaging. Be aware that the larger sizes are perfectly compatible with smaller rolls of film. Just be sure you take into account what your future needs may be.

A wand sealer is essentially an I-bar sealer, but with a detached I-bar. The concept and the technology behind the sealing process is the same as you will find with any standard I-bar sealer. This detached “wand” is extremely portable and versatile, allowing the operator to cut the film at several different angles. This makes our Traco wand sealers excellent for use in packaging odd sized objects or for situations where multiple passes of the sealing bar may be required.

Because you’re not dealing with a hinge, as you find in fixed I-bar sealers, there is a lot of freedom in where that sealing bar can go. The wand sealer is pressed against the shred film you are cutting and ultimately ends up resting on a heat resistant pad that helps protect the table, counter or desk you are working on. These types of shrink wrap sealers are also ideal for use in smaller workspaces and in locates where working around a fixed bar may be difficult.

Much like traditional I-bar sealers, our Traco wand sealers still include a centerfold film roll dispenser and a film separator, making it easy to create pockets of shrink film for packaging products. Also included is the HotShot heat gun, which is the same gun you will find with the Traco Standard and Deluxe I-bar sealers. This heat gun has several temperature settings and includes a high and low trigger switch.

Our Traco wand sealers, and the included heat gun, are compatible with both PVC and Polyolefin centerfold film (found here). The Traco Wand SuperSealer includes a 100 foot roll of PVC centerfold shrink film, which means you get everything you need to get up and going with one single purchase.

As mentioned earlier, our Traco products have an excellent track record and we consider Traco to be a reputable and reliable manufacturer. Their products hold up well with continuous use and replacement parts, when needed, are readily available.

Please feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788 with any questions you may have about wand sealers. You can find our entire selection of I-bar sealers by visiting us here.

Canadian Polymer Currency Counters Now Online

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

Canadian Polymer Banknote Currency CountersBack on November 14th 2011 Canada released its first Polymer bill ($100). That was followed on the 26th of March 2012 with the $50 and on November 7th 2012 with the $20. The $10 and $5 are expected to be released this year. While there have been a few complaints with the new banknotes, they are expected to stay. The biggest advantage of the new Polymer bills is their excellent lifespan that is about 2.5 times longer than standard bills. These is one small problem many people are experiencing, however, that I would like to cover in this article.

One problem with the new banknotes is that they are not all compatible with older currency counters and can result in some pretty bad jams. As a result, many of our Canadian customers are looking for currency counters that can handle the new bills. Thankfully one of our most reputable currency counter manufacturers, Semacon, has stepped up to the plate with brand new Canadian currency counters (found here). Rather than make you sift through our entire index of bill counters, I would like to list the models that will 100% work with polymer banknotes.

Canadian Bill Counters from Semacon that Handle Polymer Banknotes (sorted by least expensive to most expensive)

Semacon makes some of the toughest currency counters we offer. They are all made from high-end components and feature a rigorous burn-in period to ensure they work properly prior to shipment. Many of our Canadian currency counters feature counterfeit detection as well. If you are looking to upgrade, or have some questions about these machines, please contact us at 1-800-658-8788. While we are based in the United States, we can ship to Canada and have many Canadian customers.

I would also like to mention that Semacon also offers some excellent Canadian coin counters and sorters:

Thank you for reading this article. If you own one of the above mentioned Semacon currency or coin counters, please leave your feedback here as a comment.

Four Level 4 Micro Cut Paper Shredders You Have To See

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

If your office or business is in need of a paper shredder that produces double the shredding security of most traditional Level 3 cross cut shredders, you may want to consider using one of these affordable Level 4 micro cut shredders (found here). These four new paper shredders are made by New United and not only feature excellent security, but also have a great design that looks modern and classy. Here are a few reasons why these shredders are for you.

All paper shredders are rated by a security level. This level is used to determine the level of security that they offer. Security levels range from 1 to 6, with 6 being the highest level of security offered (high security). Level 3 is typically called cross cut and Level 4 (while a type of cross cut) is often called a micro cut paper shredder. Consider this, a Level 3 paper shredder has a 3.9 mm x 30-50mm cutting pattern and a Level 4 produces a 2mm x 15mm cutting pattern. Because there is more surface area to cut, Level 4 shredders typically won’t cut as many sheets at a time as their Level 3 cousins.

New United paper shredders are known for their exceptional quality and stylish good looks. These shredders are affordable, have a great cutting capacity and even feature a blue light that lights up the shred bin while paper is being shredded. I have used several of these shredders myself and I am impressed with how much better they are than your typical department store shredder.

We currently offer four Level 4 micro cut paper shredders from New United. These include the ST-6M, the ST-8M, the ET-12M and the ET-15M. These shredders come in traditional shredder designs and more modern side bid designs. Here are a few things you should know about each one.

  • New United ST-6M Micro Cut ShredderNew United ST-6M (found here) – This shredder is black and features a tower design with rounded corners. It can shred up to 6 sheets of paper at a time, which is great for a Level 4 shredder. This shredder features a slide-out side bin with a window that is extremely easy to empty. The window glows blue while shredding, making it easy to see how full the bin is. These shredder is perfect for use next to a desk.
  • New United ST-8M Micro Cut ShredderNew United ST-8M (found here) – This shredder features a traditional design with a modern twist. It combines a gray and black color scheme that looks great. The 5-gallon shred bin is easy to pull out and empty. It can shred up to 8 sheets of paper at a time and also features a blue LED light that shows through the bin’s window while shredding.
  • New United ET-12M Micro Cut ShredderNew United ET-12M (found here) – This is one of the most affordable micro cut paper shredders with a 12 sheet shredding capacity. This shredder has a tower design and is perfect for use in an office environment. It includes a separate slot for shredding CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and credit cards. It sits on casters, is easy to use, includes safety features, is energy efficient and has a slot in the shred bin that glows blue while shredding. This shredder is a great option for any business.
  • New United ET-15M Micro Cut ShredderNew United ET-15M (found here) – If you need Level 4 micro cut security, but also require a decent shredding capacity, you are going to love the New United ET-15M. This shredder has a 15 sheet shredding capacity and cuts paper into tiny 2mm x 8mm particles. This is perfect for shredding medical records, patient data, customer information and more.

I have used these shredders and am happy to say that they are all solid machines. Consider New United when shopping around for paper shredders. They also offer a great selection of Level 3 cross cut shredders (found here). Please call us at 1-800-658-8788 with any questions. Have a great day and thanks for reading!

Introducing Four New 27″ SircleLam Roll Laminators

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

If you are a school, a business or an organization that handles, prints or deals with posters, maps, signs and other printed material, you may be interested to know that we have just added four new 27″ roll laminators to our site. These new laminators are from SircleLam, a leading manufacturer of pouch laminators, binding machines and other precision office equipment. Their products are known for being extremely affordable, yet packed with features. One of these four new roll laminators may be just what you need.

All four of these new laminators come in a 27″ laminating width and all four feature a 1″ mandrel. Both the 27″ width and 1″ mandrel are the most common specifications found in laminators today. The 27″ laminating width can be used for laminating posters, maps and more. They can even be used to laminate several smaller items at the same time. Twenty-seven inch wide film is extremely common and each of these laminators can be fitted with smaller rolls if needed.

So which of these four new SircleLam laminators is for you? Really it all boils down to the features you need, the type of film you wan to use and the budget that you are on. I would like to highlight a few features of each of these new laminators. This may help you determine which model is best for you.

SircleLam Roll Laminators

  1. SircleLam SRL-2700-HR (found here) – This laminator is the budget roll laminator. It still has a nice 27″ laminating width, but won’t handle laminating film thicker than 3 mils. This isn’t a big deal for most people as a 3 mil thickness is one of the most common used today. The SRL-2700-HR still features an LED display, is built with several key safety features and includes a 2-setting temperature adjustment.
  2. SircleLam SRL-2700-Plus (found here) – This 27″ laminator is very similar to the HR version, but includes a variable temperature dial and is slightly faster at 6 feet per minute. It also features an automatic shutoff after inactivity.
  3. SircleLam Eclipse (found here) – This laminator is 27″ wide, just like the above-mentioned laminators, but has several new features. This laminator runs at a speed of up to 10 feet per minute and can be used with laminating film up to 10 mils thick. This laminator is perfect for daily use and can be used for medium-volume laminating. It can also be used for mounting up to 3/16″ thick. The Eclipse also features a 3 position roller gap control.
  4. SircleLam QuickPrint 27 (found here) – This is the workhorse of the SircleLam lineup of 27″ laminators. It has a nice 15 feet per second laminating speed, has a 7-position roller gap control and even includes a built-in trimmer. Capable of using laminating film from 1.5 up to 10 mils thick, this is a great higher-end laminator. It is perfect for print shops, copy centers and more.

If you have questions about these four different models, please feel free to speak with one of our Laminating Specialists at 1-800-658-8788. You can find our entire selection of roll laminators here.
