GHL PP-981 LP / HP Pallet Wrapper Video Demo

Friday, October 14th, 2011

GHL PP981 LP / HP Pallet WrapperHave you ever wondered how large pallets stacked with products are packaged with that saran wrap plastic? That is done by using what’s known as a stretch wrapper. These machines use wide rolls of a material that is very similar to saran / stretch wrap that helps keep multiple items in place, on a pallet, while in shipping. One popular stretch wrapper is the PP-981 (LP and HP). I am including a video demo of this machine in use in this article.

While stretch wrapping can be applied to a pallet of goods manually, the process takes some time and isn’t ideal for high-volume shipping in a warehouse. It is also difficult for an inexperienced person to evenly and correctly manually apply stretch wrap. There is also always the element of human error.

Automatic stretch / pallet wrappers spin the pallet around while a stretch wrap dispenser moves up and down, evenly applying film. The PP-981 is designed to semi automatically apply film using a mechanical pre-stretch applicator. Pre-stretching the film allows the film to better hold things together.

The PP-981 is designed to work with pallets (and goods) measuring in up to 3,000 pounds and up to 85″ high. The turntable that spins the pallet around has a fixed speed. The turntable is powered by a chain drive, which is extremely durable and it sits on 14 sets of double roller supports. The turntable is 59″ in diameter and has a non-slip surface.

This is a video demo of the GHL PP-981:

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

As you can see in this video, the entire process is very automated and very efficient. The PP-981 itself features a 10 program memory for custom stretch wrapping jobs. The PP-981 is available with a ramp (LP version) or without a ramp (HP version).

Nestaflex 226 Gravity Skatewheel Conveyor Review

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Nestaflex 226 Gravity Skatewheel ConveyorDo you run or work in a warehouse environment. As you may know, a lot of heavy lifting and transporting of boxes occurs throughout the day. Once great way to speed up packaging and transport, all while taking a load off your employees, is by using a gravity conveyor system. One great model you may want to use in your warehouse is the Nestaflex 226 gravity skatewheel conveyor (found here). This is my review.

Nestaflex is one of the biggest lines of gravity conveyors, including skatewheel and roller variations. These conveyor systems are used throughout the country. At ABC Office we currently offer over 4 different conveyor models in literally dozens of different configurations. In our warehouse, we use Nestaflex conveyors to move products straight from our warehouse directly to the Fed-Ex or UPS truck. Nextaflex conveyors have a great rack record.

The Model 226 skatewheel conveyor system is available in several different width and length configurations, depending on what you need in your warehouse. Widths range from 18″ to 24″, which is more than enough space to transport most packaged boxes.
Lengths also range, again, depending on what you need in your warehouse. The height on these conveyors can be adjusted from 28″ to 44″, which is perfect for accommodating employees.

The Nestaflex 226 gets its model name from the fact that it can support up to 226 pounds per lineal foot of conveyor. This is pretty impressive, especially considering how affordable these conveyors really are.

The build quality on the 226 is one reason this particular model is so popular. First off, the Model 226 features all-steel construction. This allows the 226 to take a beating throughout the day without suffering any wear. The side links on this conveyor are made from 11-gauge steel and the legs are zinc-plated, made from 1 1/8″ square steel tubing (cross welded).

The casters on the 226 measure in at 5″ in diameter by 1 ½” wide. Each of the casters swivel, making deployment and arrangement extremely easy. Steel foot breakers can be located both ends.

The skatewheels, which are used to actually transport material, measure in at 5/16″ inch in diameter. Standard axle centers are 5 1/4″, 4″ and 3″, which are designed to handle small cartons. The skatewheels themselves are available in the following formats:

Skatewheel Formats

  • N) Red nylon with nylon bushing high-impact, short conveyor runs.
  • P) Black polymer with 7 steel ball bearings in a captive race – provides superior wheel rotation.
  • S) Steel skate wheel with steel ball bearings – impact-resistant, moderate to high volume.

Most of our Nestaflex gravity conveyors can be adjusted or modified to meet your specific needs. Simply call us at 1-800-658-8788 to get a custom quote.

Overall, the Nestaflex 226 gravity conveyor is probably one of the best available for low to medium-volume use. The build quality is excellent and the 18 month warranty is very impressive. You will not be disappointed with the Nestaflex 226 in your warehouse or factory.

You can find the Nestaflex 226 gravity skatewheel conveyor here and our entire selection of Nestaflex gravity conveyors here. Feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788 for answers to any of your gravity conveyor or warehouse questions.

Interthor “Thork Truck” ETT52748 Hydraulic Pallet Jack Review

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Interthor "Thork Truck" ETT52748 Pallet JackAre you looking for a pallet jack that has some lifting power and won’t break the bank? Pallet jacks are critical pieces of equipment for any warehouse and make hauling goods from one area to another easy. One solid pallet jack that has a great history with our customers is the Interthor ETT52748 economy pallet jack (found here). This is my review.

I can personally vouch for the effectiveness and usefulness of pallet jacks. I worked in a grocery store for two years and used a pallet jack every week to haul new food into the store. Quality and dependability are a couple features you really need to have in a pallet jack.

Interthor has been making pallet jacks (Thork Trucks), tilters, lifters, trucks and much more for years. We have been selling Interthor products for well over 5 years now and Interthor has proven that they can make dependable products. I’m not aware of any issues that we have experienced with customers purchasing Interthor warehouse equipment.

The Interthor ETT52748 (Thork Truck) is considered an economy pallet jack. This is because it provides you with everything you need to get the job done, but isn’t considered to be lavish (chrome, brushed steel finish, etc.). It is affordable and simple to use. The ETT52748 is pretty much maintenance free and requires no special care.

This pallet jack has a maximum 5,500-pound lifting capacity, which isn’t bad for a pallet jack. It is completely manually operated, but thanks to high quality bearings, moving products around is extremely easy to do. It can be lowered down to just 2.9 inches, making it possible for the ETT52748 to get under most pallets.

There are few things more frustrating than trying to haul a pallet, but being unable to make it around a corner. The ETT52748 has an impressive 230-degree turning angle. This makes it possible for the Interthor ETT52748 to be used in fairly tight and constrained spaces.

Operating the hydraulic lift on the ETT52748 is very easy and comparable to other pallet jacks. Simply slide the jack under the pallet you need to lift, engage the hydraulic lift with a lever built into the handle and begin pumping the handle as you would a manual hydraulic jack. Lowering the pallet is just as easy. Simply disengage the hydraulics with the same lever.

The build quality on the ETT52748 economy pallet jack is excellent. It features rugged metal construction and is designed for daily use. It should easily last you for years to come.

You can find the Interthor ETT52748 economy pallet jack here, our entire selection of manual pallet jacks here and our entire line of warehouse equipment here.

Choosing a pallet jack that meets your needs can be a little confusing, so feel free to speak with one of our warehouse specialists at 1-800-658-878 with any questions.

Streamline Your Shrink Wrap Operations With A Gravity Conveyor

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

Nestaflex Gravity ConveyorShrink wrap machines are amazing things. They can be used to package just about anything, whether it is DVDs, a bar of soap or a basket of fruit. If you are packaging products on a high-volume basis, you may find that you are having trouble packaging and moving products in a streamlined fashion. One great way to speed things up is by using a gravity conveyor.

Gravity conveyors are just like the conveyors you may have seen in factories, but there is no motor involved. Products are carried along the conveyor by means of wheels or rollers. These wheels and rollers spin on silent and smooth bearings, which make it extremely to move boxes along the conveyor line. The type of conveyor you use will depend on the size of package you are dealing with and how long you need the conveyor to be.

Most gravity conveyors have some sort of accordion-like design, making it possible to shrink or stretch the conveyor. They are also typically designed in a way that allows them to bend in an S or snake-like fashion. Sitting on casters, they can typically be moved around to accommodate any situation.

At ABC Office we carry Nestaflex brand gravity conveyors. Our customers that have purchased a gravity conveyor for their shrink wrap system typically put the conveyor at the end of their heat tunnel or machine (if an integrated tunnel is being used). As the package is finished being wrapped, it is either ejected onto the conveyor or manually placed on the conveyor. The next product is easily lined up right behind.

Overall I consider a gravity conveyor to be a great way to streamline high-volume shrink wrapping. The machines are very easy to set up and install.

Top 3 Best Collapsible & Foldable Platform Trucks

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Safco Collapsible / Foldable Platform TrucksPlatform trucks are extremely useful to have on hand in a warehouse. They can be used to haul equipment, boxes and more. One big problem I have found with many platform trucks is that they can be bulky and get in the way. One solution to this is to use a collapsible platform truck.

Collapsible platform trucks allow the operator to take the handle and fold them down so that they’re level with the bed of the platform truck. This makes them easy to store, slide under workbenches and more. At ABC Office we offer several different foldaway-style platform trucks from Safco. Here are three of the most popular models.

Top 3 Best Collapsible & Foldable Platform Trucks:

  1. Safco FoldAway Platform Truck – This platform truck has a very traditional look to it, yet still features a folding handle, making it easy to store.
  2. Safco HideAway Convertible Hand Truck – This truck can adapt from a hand truck to a platform truck. It also features several other configurations. This is a great all-round platform truck to have on hand.
  3. Safco Stow Away Platform Truck – This handy platform truck is one of the heaviest-duty models around, capable of holding up to 1,000 pounds of material. The handle folds down for easy storage.

So there you have it. Three solid, compact and reliable platform trucks. We have been selling Safco brand hand trucks and platform trucks for years now and they have a great track record with our customers. You can find our entire selection of hand trucks and platform trucks here.

GHL PP981 Automatic Pallet Stretch Wrapper Review (LP & HP)

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

GHL PP981 Pallet WrapperDo you have a warehouse that ships out pallets loaded with equipment, retail products and other goods? Chances are that you use a pallet wrapper to keep these products stationary and stable while shipping. If you are in the market for a new automatic pallet wrapper, or need a replacement, you should consider using the GHL PP981 automatic pallet stretch wrapper (found here). This is my review.

GHL is a leading manufacturer of packaging equipment. This includes not only stretch wrappers, but also a wide selection of conveyors, shrink wrap machines, tray sealers and much more. GHL’s products are known for being solid machines, designed to last for years.

The GHL PP981 is available in two versions. This includes the LP and the HP. The only difference between the two is that the HP includes a ramp and the LP does not. The model you get will depend a lot on how you lift, move and load pallets.

This stretch wrapper is one of the entry-level models made by GHL, but don’t let that disappoint you. The PP981 is still a heavy duty machine. It weighs in at 1250 lbs and can hold a loaded pallet up to 3,000 pounds heavy. Don’t worry about moving this stretch wrapper though as it is forklift portable.

Unlike many basic “simple” stretch wrappers, the PP981 is very automated. It has a memory capable of storing up to 10 different common jobs. This is great for repeat jobs, which is very common in a warehouse / packaging environment.

Very little manual effort is involved to run the PP981. It has a heavy-duty drive belt for holding the stretch film and automatically moves the stretch wrap up and down while the turntable spins, accommodating pallets up to 85″ high. The film is pre-stretched, prior to application, to ensure maximum support and stability.

The turntable itself measures in at 59″, able to accommodate most pallets. As the stretch wrap is applied, the turntable spins at a speed of 10 feet per minute. This gets the job  done in a quick and timely manner. The turntable is supported by heavy-duty Delrin Rollers with sealed bearings, making it very quiet. The turntable drive is chain driven.

Don’t worry about the power requirements. The GHL PP981 can be used with a 110-volt power source. This is nice because you don’t have to worry about any special wiring or power.

This machine is heavy-duty, very quiet and perfect for many warehouse-packaging operations. The build quality is excellent, and with proper care, should last you for years.

You can find the GHL PP981 automatic pallet stretch wrapper (LP & HP) here. You can find our entire selection of pallet stretch wrappers here. Feel free to call us at 1-800-658-8788 with any questions.

The Proper Shop Stool Makes Work Easier

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Interthor Shop Stools / Work Stools with CastersIf you have ever worked on a car, you know how much strain can be put on your back and knees. This is especially the case when working on the wheel of your car, whether it is changing brakes, calipers, struts, ball joints or tie rods. When kneeling is involved, you should really use some sort of a shop stool, preferably one with casters. These wonderful devices have been a lifesaver for me.

Another thing that shop stools are great for is keeping tools organized and close. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have worked on a car, only to find the tools are on the other side of the car, under the car or I’m sitting on them. It’s almost as if they are able to get up and walk away. Shop stools usually have convenient shelves where you can place tools.

Just yesterday I was changing out a leaky rear brake caliper on my ’87 VW GTI mk2 (great car by the way). Having a stool to sit on kept me cleaner, kept my box wrenches in reach and made the entire process simple. Shop stools are a great time saver.

At ABC Office we currently offer two great shop stools, known as People Positioners, which are made by Interthor. One of these stools is the People Positioner 02, which is compact, basic and simple (perfect for me). It features an adjustable seat and has a nice tray underneath for tools. It can be adjusted in height from 13 1/2″ to 18 1/2″.

The second work stool we offer is the People Positioner 05. This work stool is designed for working on taller machinery and has an adjustable height of 20″ to 30″. This work stool has two shelves for tools.

Both of these shop stools are great for what they do and feature a premium build quality, far higher than what you normally find in a shop stool. Both of these work stools feature casters that can be locked in place. This makes moving around a garage, shop or warehouse easy.

You can find our People Positioner shop stools here.

Best Machine For Moving, Transporting and Lifting A Pallet

Friday, June 18th, 2010

So you work in a warehouse or a loading dock and need a good way to move a pallet. There are a few ways of doing this, including both manual and electric solutions. I am going to recommend a few machines from Interthor that you may want to consider for your daily pallet moving and lifting needs.

The machine you use to move and lift pallets will depend entirely on the volume you are moving, how high you need to move a pallet and your budget will determine the machine you use. Here are a few of the pallet lifting and moving products we offer:

Manual Pallet Trucks and MoversManual Pallet Trucks / Movers – These handy little machines are one of the most common found in a warehouse. You have probably even seen them used at your local grocery or department store. These pallet movers aren’t used for lifting pallets from one shelf to another, but rather for moving a pallet from one location to another. You can find our manual pallet trucks and movers here.

Electric Pallet Movers and TransportersElectric Pallet Lifters and Transporters – These handy machines are similar to the manual pallet movers mentioned above, but can lift pallets a little higher and do this by use of an electric motor. They also have wheels, making it easy to move pallets around.  These are ideal for machine feeding /offloading and load unitizing / palletizing. You will find our Interthor electric pallet transporters here.

Pallet Trans Stacker / Load StackerTrans Stackers and Load Stackers – These machines are used to lift and move pallets and products from one level to another. This includes both straddle and fork over designs. Most of these machines are designed to work on narrow isles. You will find our Interthor pallet trans stackers here.

Thork Lift Pallet Lifter from InterthorScissor-Style Pallet Lifters – These pallet lifters use a patented system for stability to lift and move pallets, with some capable of lifting up to 3,300 pounds. These are ideal for use with skids and open bottom pallets. You can find our Interthor “Thork-Lift” pallet lifters and transporters here.

We have a great staff of experts here that is very knowledgeable when it comes to moving, lifting and transporting pallets. Feel free to call 1-800-658-8788 to speak with one of them.

Benefits of a Back Support Belt or Brace

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Back Support Belts and BracesDid you know that back injuries account for nearly 20% of all injuries and illnesses in the workplace and cost the U.S. an estimated 20 to 50 billion dollars per year? Not only do back injuries cost employers money, they also result in painful back issues that often last a lifetime. So how can you combat the possibility of a back injury? Back support belts and proper education are a couple of ways to help.

Back support belts and braces are both a preventative and a treatment tool. One of the biggest benefits of back support belts is their ability to provide added posture support and back stability. Incorrect posture, while lifting, is a significant factor when it comes to back injuries.

Back support belts and braces are also ideal for use with someone who has previously experienced a back injury. The belt helps provide added support, especially when someone is dealing with a torn muscle or other back injury.

A back support belt will not work if you are using an incorrect belt size. If the belt is too big, it will not provide any support, and if it is too small, it will not provide correct support (not to mention small belts are very uncomfortable). It is also a good idea to try several different styles of belts. Some people will find more benefits with one design over another.

Back Support BracesBack support belts should be properly tightened when heavy lifting occurs, but do not need to be “cinched-up” at all times. Why is this? A belt that is cinched, when no lifting is being done, can result in employee complaints and discomfort. This may result in improper use of the belt or lack of a belt when it is really needed.

Back support belts also help with preventing abdominal injuries while lifting. Why is this? Most back support belts wrap around to the front, helping provide muscle support to the abdominal wall. This helps cut down on abdominal ruptures and tears. Be aware, however, that back support belts are more of a preventative measure than a treatment for abdominal injuries.

You may have heard this thousands of times, but simple lifting practices will help more than any belt. This includes proper posture and lifting with the knees, not the back. You will find our entire selection of back support belts here. Our back support belts and braces are designed to provide maximum back support while providing maximum comfort.

Have some thoughts on back support belts? Post them in a comment.
