Daily Mail Mode Rolls out on Formax Envelope Inserting Machines

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

Daily Mail Mode Formax Envelope Inserting MachinesFolding and inserting machines (found here) are pretty remarkable pieces of equipment when you consider all that they do. These machines take paper, fold it, insert it into an envelope and seal the envelope shut. They do this at a high rate of speed and dramatically cut down on overhead by eliminating the need to do the same work manually. These machines come in a variety of configurations, depending on how many sheets you need inserted into an envelope. One feature that many of these machines now include is a daily mail. I would like to go into more detail what this does.

Envelope inserting machines are known by many names. Some include folder inserters, envelope stuffing machines and letter inserters. These machines are all made for mailing purposes. I have seen customers use these machines for mailing invoices, checks, letters, marketing material and more. Some even have the ability to insert a small insert or business reply envelope (BRE).  The precision and efficiency that these machines perform is truly and engineering feat.

The latest feature now included in most Formax envelope inserting machines is called Daily Mail. This is a feature that allows you to quickly fold and insert multiple sheets of paper into an envelope without having to set up any special project. This is sometimes called semi-auto mode and is excellent for occasional jobs that pop up here and there. This bypasses the normal feeding trays and requires you to pre-collate the sheets prior to folding and inserting. This may range from a couple of sheets up to several, depending on the machine.

Traditional envelope inserting machines do not have the ability to fold and insert stapled sets of paper. This is another example of where Daily Mail Mode is so cool. The semi-auto Daily Mail feed slot allows you to insert stapled documents for folding and inserting into an envelope. This gives you a lot of control and again, it is ideal for occasional jobs that may pop up out of nowhere.

Another thing you may not be aware of is that these folding and inserting machines can also be used for multi-sheet paper folding. This means folding multiple sheets of paper at a the same time (without the intent of mailing them). Most paper folding machines are not capable of multi-sheet folding, but Formax envelope inserting machines allow you to disable the envelope inserting part of the process for simple or multi-sheet folding.

Most of our envelope inserting machines are capable of creating a Z fold (aka accordion), C fold (aka letter fold), half fold (aka single fold) and a double parallel fold. These really are paper folding machines on steroids.

If you’re curious as to whether or not our machines will work for your project, feel free to send in samples. We would love to test them on our machines and send them back to you. Sometimes it helps, when selecting a machine, to see the end results in your hand. This will also help us determine the right machine for you and establish if your paper and envelopes will even work.

While envelope inserting machines do cost more than your typical paper folder, we do offer leasing options and accept purchase orders.

Review of the Formax FD 6204 Envelope Inserter

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

Formax FD 6204 Envelope InserterIf you are in the market for a new envelope-inserting machine, you are going to love the all-new Formax FD 6204 (found here). This envelope inserter, sometimes called a folder inserter, is available in four different models, depending on what you need to fold and insert. This modern machine will take your paper, fold it, insert it into an envelope and seal the envelope shut. Is this all-in-one machine a good choice for you? Read on!

There are many reasons why you may want to use an envelope-inserting machine. For one, they are many times faster than trying to manually fold and insert documents. The quality is also significantly better, with folds being perfectly aligned and crisp. The FD 6204 comes in a few different versions, depending on how many sheets you need to fold and insert and whether or not you need an insert or business reply envelope added.

The FD 6204 replaces the extremely popular FD 6202. As a machine, it is almost exactly the same as the FD 6202 with a few modern improvements. One such improvement is the touch screen interface. The older FD 6202 required you to navigate the menu via buttons on the right side of the screen. The FD 6204 lets you quickly touch the screen and select what you need to do. This intuitive interface makes it possible to set the machine up with as little as one touch of the screen. It also includes a daily mail feature that allows for the quick feeding of stapled and non-stapled sets.

The FD 6204 can handle documents up to 14″ long. Many of our customers use this machine for folding and inserting documents such as checks, newsletters, invoices and more. You can purchase the 6204 in four different versions. These include the FD 6204-Basic (one sheet feeder), the FD 6204-Basic 2 (two sheet feeders), the FD 6204-Advanced 1 (one sheet feeder and one insert / BRE feeder) and the FD 6204-Advanced 2 (two sheet feeders and one insert / BRE feeder).

The Formax FD 6204 can fold and insert paper at a speed of about 2,200 pieces per our and has a monthly duty cycle of 15,000 pieces. This makes this machine ideal for low to medium-volume applications. Each of the feed trays hold up to 325 sheets and they can be refilled on-the-fly, making it possible to continually run this machine. Models with two trays can also be set up to run so that when the top tray runs out, it immediately switches over to the seconds tray.

As mentioned earlier, this system uses a color touchscreen interface. It uses a job assistance wizard to help the operator quickly navigate through the system. The AutoSet feature automatically detects the paper width, length, envelope size and other details, making setup extremely easy. It can be used to create C, V, Z and double parallel folds. An integrated blade folding system keeps the folds crisp and accurate. For frequent jobs, this machine will allow you to store up to 15 customizable applications.

Introducing the Formax FD 6102 Envelope Inserting Machine

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Formax FD 6102 Envelope Inserting MachineWhen it comes to automated mailing equipment, few manufactures come close to what Formax has to offer. Formax’s line of envelope stuffing machines, often called folder inserters, are excellent for mass mailing invoices, newsletters, promotional material and much more. We are happy to announce that we have just added their latest machine, the Formax FD 6102 (found here), to our site.

Folding and inserting machines are often a bit of an investment for a business. Formax, who manufactures some of the best medium and high-volume machines, also makes a great entry-level machine. The FD-6102 is a desktop envelope-stuffing machine that replaces both the FD-6100 and the FD-6150. This machine has a duty-cycle of about 5,000 pieces per month (at a rate of 1,360 per hour) and is a huge improvement over manually folding and inserting paper into envelopes.

One of the biggest improvements you will find with the FD-6102, over previous versions, is the touch-screen interface. This interface, which happens to be in color, is easy to navigate and makes setting up the type of folds and easy to do. A step-by-step job wizard helps guide you through the setup process. This machine will also allow you to set up, name and store 15 frequent jobs, making setup even easier later down the road.

An enhanced feeder design helps to make paper feeding more seamless and toner resistant fold rollers help cut down on jams. This, however, doesn’t mean that this machine, which uses friction rollers, will work with all glossy or coated paper. If you will be using glossy or coated paper, please send in samples for testing purposes.

Each of the feed trays can hold up to 100 sheets of 20# bond paper, the BRE / Insert tray can hold up to 100 pieces and the envelope hopper holds up to 100 outgoing envelopes at a time. If needed, the 2 sheet feeders can be linked together, doubling the sheet capacity to 200. When the first feed tray (100 capacity) empties, it will then move on to the second feed tray (in linked mode). In the event that you don’t what to set up any special jobs, you can simply manually feed a stack of up to 5 sheets via the drop-in feed system.

This machine will automatically, depending on the feed trays being used, pull a sheet off of each sheet and BRE feeder, fold them and insert them into an envelope. It will even seal the envelopes shut. The sealing function can be turned off if you prefer to leave your envelopes open.

In comparison to other folding and inserting machines out there, the FD 6102 is remarkably quiet. This makes it great for use in the office, in a mailing room or other location where people work.

This machine can be used with #10, #9 and 6″x9″ envelopes. It can be used with paper up to 14″ long and will create letter, half and double parallel folds. As documents leave this machine, the catch tray can be adjusted to accommodate the various sizes of envelopes that you are using.

If you still have questions, please give us a call at 1-800-658-8788. Our Mailing Specialists are more than happy to help answer your questions. You can find our entire selection of envelope stuffing machines here.

Formax FD 6304 Envelope Stuffing Machine Video Demo

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Formax FD 6304 Envelope Stuffing MachineHave you ever wondered how bills, invoices, mailers and other material are folded and inserted into envelopes? Perhaps…perhaps not. Whether you need one of these machines, or are simply curious how it works, we now have a video demo available of the Formax FD 6304 folder inserter. This machine is capable of folding and inserting up to 40,000 envelopes per month.

Folding and inserting machine, sometime called envelope-stuffing machines, are completely automated. All you have to do is enter a few settings and place empty envelopes and paper in the feeding trays. The machine does the rest. It literally pulls a sheet from each tray and inserts them into an envelope. The FD 6304 can even lick (with a water applicator) and seal the envelopes shut.

The Formax FD 6304 can single fold and insert up to 10 sheets of paper at once or tri-fold (aka letter fold) and insert up to 8 sheets of paper at once. It operates at a speed of about 3,600 pieces per hour. This machine is perfect for small to large businesses and can even be set up with OMR capabilities (optical mark recognition) for billing and invoicing.

Many people think that a folding and inserting machine is going to be complicated to use or difficult to set up. Formax has put a lot of research into usability and has dramatically simplified the setup procedure. It only takes a few steps to set up a Formax folder inserter. The FD 6304 even has a full-color touchscreen that makes it easy to set up an program up to 25 different jobs.

What is a Reverse Flap Envelope?

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Folder InsertersAn envelope is just an envelope, right? Is there really that much difference from one to another? While on the surface business envelopes may seem as simple as a #9 or a #10 size, there is actually a lot more involved than you might think. A few of those differences include where the flap is located and where the windows are found.

One common question is “What is a reverse flap envelope?” Reverse flap envelopes, also known as reverse fold envelopes, have the folded flap on the bottom of the envelope rather than the top. There are a lot of reasons for this, with the primary reason being mass mailing and use with folder inserter machines.

This is an example of a reverse flap envelope:

Reverse Flap Envelopes

Reverse flap envelopes have mail inserted from the bottom rather than the top. The orientation of the address window is typically on the left side of the envelope. Bottom flap envelopes, due to the design and orientation, flow and run much better in envelope inserting machines. While most folding and inserting machines, such as those by Formax, can use a standard top flap envelope, bottom flap envelopes are preferred.

Once the bottom flap has been sealed shut, the envelope looks almost identical to a standard top flap envelope. To the customer, or envelope recipient, it is just a standard envelope. These types of envelopes are perfect for mailing bills, receipts, invoices, promotional material and more.

Formax FD 6202 Folder Inserter Video Demo

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Formax FD 6202 Folder InserterHave you ever wondered how businesses are able to fold, insert and mail envelopes on such a wide scale? One of the tools they use is a folder inserter, often called an envelope-stuffing machine. One of the most popular models used today is the Formax FD 6202 folder inserter. We just added a video demo of it to our site, which shows in great detail exactly how it works.

The FD 6202 is available in several different configurations, depending on how many sheets you need inserted into an envelope, and whether or not you need to include an insert or a BRE (business reply envelope). The machine itself, which I have personally used on many occasions, is an amazing piece of engineering. The machine is quiet, fast and takes what would take one individual 30-60 seconds and does it in 1-2 seconds.

This machine essentially takes a sheet of paper, folds it (letter, single, double parallel or accordion) and inserts it into an envelope. It even seals the envelope shut by running the glue on the flap of the envelope over a water-coated surface and folding it shut. This is a great system for mailing invoices, bills, promotional material, bank statements and much more. It can even be integrated with an OMR (optical mark recognition) reader.

This is a video demo of the Formax FD 6202:

The FD 6202 automatic envelope-stuffing machine operates at a speed of about 2,200 pieces per hour and has a monthly duty cycle of 12,000 sheets per month. Larger Formax machines are available for higher volumes. The machine itself is extremely easy to set up thanks to a simple digital interface.
