Lassco CR-55 2″ Corner Rounder & Cutter Review

Friday, April 5th, 2013

Lassco CR-55 Corner Rounder & CutterLassco is known for making some of the finest corner rounders available under the brand Cornerounder (made in the USA). Their machines are the most popular because the can be used to cut a lot of paper and the dies are interchangeable, eliminating the need to purchase multiple machines. One of Lassco’s most recent machines is the CR-55 corner cutter (found here). This new machine goes in a different direction than the older Cornerounders. So is this machine for you?

If you have used a corner rounder like the CR-20 or CR-50, both of which are excellent machines, you may be familiar with their socket style dies that can be pulled out and inserted to accommodate different radii patterns. While the CR-55 does allow different radii patterns, the cutting unit is completely different. This design change was needed to accommodate a larger cutting capacity. Most Lassco Cornerounder machines have a ½” cutting capacity. The CR-55 has a huge 2″ cutting capacity.

Lassco CR-55 Radii Blade Die Set #1Rather than using a socket style cutting die, the CR-55 uses a special die set that consists of a die and a couple of blades. The die is mounted to the base of the cutter’s table. The cutting blade is mounted to the moving mechanism that is pressed down on the paper. The ¼” die can be mounted 180 degrees to accommodate a 3/8″ radius. The ½” die can also be flipped around to accommodate a 1/8″ radius. Because of the way the die and blade are designed, the blades are sold in sets. Radius set one includes a ¼” & 3/8″ die and blade. The radius set two has a ½” and 1/8″ die and blade.

The CR-55 cutting unit is set in a floor design that 43″ high, making it easy to use by most people. This design also frees up desk and table space. The table area measures in at 20″ x 20″, which is amble room to accommodate both small and large sheets of paper. Large paper guides, leading up to the cutting blade, make it extremely easy to align paper. Because the guides are set at about 2″ high, this also makes it easy to jog the paper into place. A CR55-PB is an optional wood paper alignment tool that can be used to further job the paper into place.

Using the CR-55 is extremely easy. Once the correct die has been mounted and the paper is in place, simply press down on the foot pedal to bring down the cutting blade. Lassco has designed this cutter to make cutting exceptionally easy with little pressure. The foot pedal design allows you to use your own weight to depress the pedal while freeing up hands for quickly removing and re-adding more paper.

Due to its durable design, the CR-55 is excellent for repeated use throughout the day. People use this corner rounder for cutting the corners off of playing cards, business cards, greeting cards and other paper material. It can be used for cutting through standard paper or for cutting through plastic sheets, including laminated paper and poly covers.

Top 6 Best 8 ½” x 14″ and 11″ x 17″ Paper Joggers

Friday, January 11th, 2013

11" x 17" Paper JoggersIf you are jogging paper larger than your standard letter size document, you are probably going to need a slightly more robust and capable paper jogger than your standard run-of-the-mill design. At ABC Office we offer several paper joggers (found here) that can be used to handle both 8 ½” x 14″ legal size paper and large 11″ x 17″ documents. The model you choose will depend on how many sheets you need to jog and where the paper jogging will take place. I would like to recommend some of our highest-rated models in this article.

A paper jogger, for those of you unfamiliar with the technology, uses a motor to generate fast vibrations that quickly cause jumbled sheets of paper to re-align into a squared-up stacks. This helps keep paper organized when placing it in a copy machine, paper folder,  tabletop printer and in other paper handling machines. It also helps to eliminate static electricity and cuts down on jams. Some paper joggers also use air during the jogging process to help align pages and dry wet ink as they come out of a printing press.

At ABC Office, we offer paper jogging machines from such brands as Martin Yale, Lassco, Formax and MBM. All of the paper joggers we offer are great machines, but not all can be used with larger 11″ x 17″ paper. Over the years we have had a lot of luck with the following models.

Top 4 Best Corner RoundersWhen it comes to lopping the corners off of paper, you probably want the best corner rounder (found here) for the dollar. Luckily companies like Lassco and Akiles produce some of the best corner rounders available, bar none. These are corner rounders that feature a great build quality, are highly customizable and take the labor out of high-capacity corner cutting. We offer four models that I feel you will like. These are machines that I have personally used and operated.

While all four of these corner rounders are excellent machines I have a personal favorite, the Lassco CR-20 (found here). It just works well and makes cutting corners so easy. I will go into more detail regarding is pros along with other corner rounders. Here is my top 4 list:

Top 4 Best Countertop Corner Rounders in Town

  1. CR-20 Corner RounderLassco CR-20 Cornerounder (found here) – This is my personal favorite. It features a compact design and works great on a table, desk or counter. It has a long lever that you push down to begin cutting the corners. A socket, found at the corner of the handle, holds a cutting die. This die is what does all the cutting. The CR-20 comes with one die and can be used with a variety of different sizes. One reason I really like this model is the fact that I never have customer service issues with it.
  2. Lassco CR-50B Corner RounderLassco CR-50B Cornerounder (found here) – This corner rounder is essentially a CR-20 on steroids. The reason you would want to use this corner rounder over the CR-20 is if you are cutting larger sheets of paper. It features a larger cutting base and a slightly longer handle for additional cutting leverage. Like the CR-20, the CR-50B also uses socket-loaded cutting dies and can be used with 1/8″, ¼”, 3/8″ and ½”. Other special dies are also available.
  3. Akiles Diamond-1 Corner RounderAkiles Diamond-1 Corner Rounder (found here) – Akiles makes some of our best binding machines and their corner rounders aren’t half bad either. While I think the CR-20 has a beefier cutting die, the Diamond-1 is an excellent alternative. It also can be used with several different cutting dies and comes with a ¼” die. The handle on the Diamond-1 is particularly easy to use thanks to an ergonomic handle.
  4. Akiles Diamond-5 Electric Corner RounderAkiles Diamond-5 Electric Corner Rounder (found here) – This is the only countertop electric corner rounder that I am aware of. Electric is ideal if you are rounding the corners on thousands of documents per day. The Diamond-5 has nearly a 2″ cutting capacity. While floor models are great machines, the convenience of a countertop model can’t be beat and this machine’s compact design helps save on space. It can be used with four different sizes of cutting dies.

Each of these four models are excellent products and I have no problem recommending them. They will each hold up with daily use and are all quality machines. If for any reason you have a question, please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-658-8788. We are more than happy to help you out. You can find our entire selection of corner rounders here.

Q&A: Lassco Corner Rounder Cutting Dies

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Lassco CR-20 Corner RounderI recently had a customer ask me a really good question regarding Lassco corner rounders. They wanted to purchase both a CR-20 and a CR-50B. Their question was this, “Can I use the CR-20 die on the CR-50B and vice versa?” This was a great question and one I didn’t have the answer to, so looked into it.

After doing some research I discovered that the CR line of corner rounding dies will work on the CR-20, CR-50B, CR-50, CR-50P and CR-50XP. For the customer asking the question, this meant that the CR-20 1/8″, ¼”, 3/8″ and ½” dies can work on the CR-50B and vice versa.

The customer was happy because they only needed to purchase 2 sets of dies rather than 4 sets of dies. This ended up saving them money in the long run.

Lassco CR-50P Electric Corner Cutter Review

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Lassco CR-50B Corner CutterDo you work in the printing, greeting card or business card business? Do you handle card stock, report covers and other paper material? You may want to consider giving your printed material a leg up by cutting off those sharp corners and adding rounded corners. One great way to do this, on a high-volume basis, is by using the Lassco CR-50P electric corner cutter (found here). This is my review.

Lassco is our most popular manufacturer of corner rounders. Their CR-20 and standard CR-50 models are two of our best sellers. Lassco also makes a great selection of floor model corner rounders. Theses corner cutting machines are reliable, backed by great support and provide the option of interchangeable dies.

Corner rounders are often referred to as corner cutters, corner slitters and cornerounders. While some models of corner rounders are designed to cut just one or two sheets of paper, most are capable of handling hundreds of sheets of paper. The Lassco CR-50P is a great example. It can handle up to a ½” stack of paper in a single pass.

The Lassco CR-50P is very similar to its cousin, the CR-50, except the CR-50P features an electric motor. This electric motor is activated by pressing a foot pedal. I personally like the foot pedal operation as it allows you to manually handle and adjust the paper with two hands while cutting. The motor used is powered by 115 volts / 60 Hz.

Speed shouldn’t be too much of an issue. With a ½” cutting capacity, and the ability to make 30 strokes a minute, the weakest link in the speed of corner rounding will more than likely be the operator. It can pretty much keep up with you without any problems.

The CR-50P is a floor model. That means it doesn’t need to be placed on a desk or counter. It includes it’s own built-in stand that keeps the cutting surface at working level. The surface of the workbench is 17″ x 17″, making the CR-50P ideal for cutting small and large sheets of paper.

One thing I really like about the Lassco CR-50P is the socket design of the cutting dies. This machine makes it very easy to change from a 1/8″ die to a ½” die in just seconds. Simply pull the die you don’t need out of the socket and insert the new die. This corner cutter comes with one standard die of your choice, however, about 11 different dies are available. That makes this machine extremely versatile, and because the dies can be replaced, you’ll never be stuck with a dull corner rounder.

The build quality of this corner rounder is as good as you will find in the corner cutting industry. The metal and wood of this machine may remind you of something from a 50s army surplus store, but it is built to last. It weighs 112 pounds shipped and 90 pounds unpackaged. You won’t have any problem using this corner rounder on a daily basis for commercial and industrial applications. It’s that tough.

Why YOU Should Use a Paper Jogger

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Paper JoggersIf you work in an office environment, work in a church or teach at a school, you probably deal with paper on a regular basis. This may involve stapling, paper folding, book binding, paper cutting and much more. One annoying thing about paper is that it gets jumbled quickly, whether from moving around, coming off the copy machine or printer. One tool that WILL make your life easier is a paper jogger.

I can’t even begin to tell you how many time I have had to manually bounce and jog paper on a table prior to inserting it into a folding machine or binding machine. If you don’t get the process done right, you end up with jammed machines or poorly bound documents (misaligned holes). Paper joggers take this paper and square it up for you in just seconds.

Paper joggers are very simple in concept. They typically have some sort of motor inside that vibrates at thousands of vibrations a minute. This motor causes a tray to move around quickly, casing the vibrations (along with gravity) to square up paper.

Here in the office we use the Premier Jog-Fast (Model 400) paper jogger on a regular basis. It literally takes seconds for me to jog an entire ream of paper.

I have also used paper joggers for helping dry ink after printing in a digital duplicator. Some paper joggers utilize air in some format during the jogging process to quicken the drying process even more. Paper joggers are also good for removing static electricity from printed or copied paper.

So which paper joggers do our customers like to use?

  • Martin Yale Jog-Fast (Model 400) Paper Jogger
  • Lassco LJ-2 Paper Jogger
  • These two models are very popular with our customers because the are designed for use with 8 ½” x 11″ paper and the are both affordable. I can vouch, from personal experience, that Martin Yale (Premier), Lassco and Formax all make some of the best paper joggers available on the market.

We also offer multi-bin paper joggers for jogging multiple reams of paper at a time. We also sell paper joggers for large paper, flat bed paper joggers and open paper joggers. You can find our entire selection of paper joggers here.

In conclusion, I have to say that I can’t imagine handling paper on a daily basis without using a paper jogger. If you haven’t considered using one, at least stop by our site and see what we have to offer. Feel free to speak with one of our paper handling specialists by calling 1-800-658-8788.
