Introducing the Formax FD 6150 Envelope Inserting Machine

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Formax FD 6150 Envelope Inserting MachineFolding mail by and, inserting it into envelopes and licking the envelopes shut is a long and tedious process. It creates paper cuts, folds are typically misaligned and the glue from the envelopes tastes pretty bad. One affordable way to eliminate the need for manual envelope folding and inserting is to use an automated machine like the Formax FD 6150 folder inserter.

Formax is one of the best-known manufacturers of envelope folding and inserting machines. They manufacture machines that can handle anywhere from one sheet up to six or more sheets of paper at a time. The process is impressive to watch and the technology is extremely reliable. The Formax FD 6150 replaces the popular FD 6100.

The Formax FD 6150 is the entry-level folding and inserting machine from Formax. While it is entry level, it is still packed with features and is extremely fast. It is best suited for small to medium-size businesses and can be used to fold and insert approximately 5,000 pieces per month. This is ideal for mailing invoices, checks, newsletters and more.

Formax FD 6150 Inserting Machine Control PanelThe folding and inserting process on this machine takes just seconds. The FD 6150 has 2 paper trays and one insert / BRE tray. Each of the paper trays holds 325 sheets of paper. These trays allow for a combination of different multi sheet folding and inserting configurations. The insert / BRE tray is designed for business reply envelopes or small slips of paper that need to be included in the letter.

The FD 6150 essentially pulls a sheet of paper from the trays, folds it, inserts it into an envelope and even seals the envelope shut. Once an envelope comes out the exit tray, it is ready to take a stamp and be mailed. A daily mail mode will even allow for inserting stapled or unstapled sets of paper (up to 5 sheets) for mailing purposes.

This envelope inserting machine can create a C fold (letter), a V fold (half) and a double parallel fold. It can also be set up with 9 different programmable jobs for easy setup. Simply select the job you need (which includes paper size, envelope type and fold style) and start the machine. The control panel itself is very easy to navigate and set up.

The Formax FD 6150 utilizes a clamshell design. By pressing a cover release lever, the entire top half of the machine opens up. This makes cleaning and maintenance extremely easy. In the rare event of a jam, paper is extremely easy to access and clear out.

Formax FD 6100 Folder Inserter / Envelope Stuffer Video Demo

Formax FD 6100 Envelope and Paper InserterFolding, inserting, licking and sealing. It’s the four-step mailing process many of you are very familiar with. The only problem with manually folding and inserting mail is that it is very time consuming and can require a lot of people. Automated machines, like the Formax FD 6100 folder inserter, are fast and quickly make up the cost of paying someone to do the job in no time. I had a chance to use this machine a few weeks ago and we shot a video demo.

At first glance, from personal experience, the FD 6100 is a little intimidating. It has several feed trays, an envelope tray, an insert tray and a digital control panel. It probably only took me about 5 minutes to familiarize myself with the machine. Once I had everything figured out, I was surprised just how easy the Formax FD 6100 was to use.

I ended up creating a letter fold using a #10 business envelope. I placed two separate stacks of paper in the machine (for multi-sheet folding & inserting) and put the envelopes in the back. Once I told the machine what I wanted it to do, it took just seconds to complete the process.

Sometimes seeing a machine in use is easier that trying to describe it. We ended up shooting a video demonstration of my experience which I am including in this post.

I hope that video clearly depicts just how nice this machine is. I personally recommend it to any small business that has light to medium-volume folding and inserting needs. Envelope Inserting Machine Problems? Consider Relyco Envelopes!

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Formax Envelope Stuffing MachineFolding and inserting machines are great for mailing bills, brochures, applications, receipts and a wide variety of other mail. These machines can insert paper into envelopes in a fraction of the time it takes to do it manually. While folding and inserting machines are great, they can sometimes be picky when it comes to envelopes.

At ABC Office we offer a wide variety of Formax envelope stuffing machines. Prior to sending out a machine, we typically require a customer to mail in envelope samples for testing. This is because some envelopes simply will not work with folding and inserting machines. Symptoms of incorrect envelopes include tearing, improper sealing and overall machine jams.

Reclyco #10 Inserter EnvelopeWhether you need to speed up your Formax inserter order or currently have a machine and are experiencing issues, you may want to consider using Relyco envelopes. We recently added several #9 and #10 Relyco envelopes to our site that are designed from the ground up to be used with Formax and other envelope stuffing machines.

Formax uses Relyco envelopes with their own inserting machines. These new envelopes include single window, dual window and bottom flap designs. They also feature a security tint that helps protect envelope contents from unwanted reading.

What Is The BRE Feeder On A Folder Inserter?

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Formax Envelope Stuffing MachinesI recently had a customer ask me what BRE was. Initially I was a little confused as to what they were talking about. They then went on to tell me that they were looking at a Formax inserter & envelope stuffer and saw that some of the Formax machines had a BRE feeder.

I didn’t know it at the time, but I knew what a BRE was, I just wasn’t familiar with the acronym. The abbreviation BRE stands for Business Return Envelope. As soon as I read that I thought, “oh yeah, I know exactly what that is.”

You probably know what I am talking about. BREs are those small little envelopes that often say “no postage necessary” on them, that are included in a larger envelope. BREs are often used for renewing a magazine subscription, for applying for a credit card and many, for bills and many other mailers.

BRE Business Reply Envelopes

Many of our Formax envelope stuffing machines have multiple feed trays. Some inserters include a tray that is a little smaller, which can be used to insert BRE envelopes and small inserts. Simply place your paper in the feed tray, along with a stack of business reply envelopes, and the Formax folder inserter will do the rest.

The entire folder inserter process is remarkable to see in action. The amount of time and money saved using an automatic folder inserter is remarkable, especially compared to manually doing the work. Folding and inserting machines will probably dramatically cut back on your stress as well.

While not all our folding and inserting machines have BRE insert trays, many do. Our product pages will specify whether or not they have a BRE insert tray. If you are having trouble finding a machine with a BRE insert tray, call us at 1-800-658-8788 and one of or mail equipment specialists will help you track down a few models.

Multi-Sheet Paper Folding Machine Q&A

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Multi-Sheet Paper Folding MachineI have a few customers a day ask me if there are any paper folding machines that are able to fold multiple sheets of paper at a time. The answer is kind of a mixed bag. There are solutions to multi-sheet paper folding. Here are a few options you may want to consider.

First of all, a standard paper folding machine cannot automatically fold multiple sheets of paper at a time. They are all designed to pull one sheet off the stack and fold it. In order for a paper folding machine to fold multiple sheets, it would need to have multiple feed trays. There are machines that can do this, which I will discuss a few paragraphs down.

Many standard paper folding machines have a bypass opening, which looks like a slot, located on the top of the machine (kind of like a paper shredder). Folding machine equipped with a bypass slot can often fold up to three sheets of paper at a time, but require the paper to be manually fed. An example of this type of folding machine is the MBM 87M folding machine found here.

Paper Folder Inserters / Inserting MachinesManually feeding three sheets of paper through the bypass slot is still much faster than folding paper by hand, but it is still not automated. For automated multi-sheet folding, you will need to use a paper folder inserter.

Paper folder inserters, designed to fold multiple sheets and insert them into an envelope, can be used for multi sheet folding. Simply turn off the inserting portion of the operation so it only folds paper.

At this time there aren’t any other options. You must use the bypass slot (if so equipment) on a standard folding machine or use a paper folder inserter equipped with multiple feed trays.

Best Automatic Envelope Stuffers and Sealers

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Envelope Stuffing MachinesWouldn’t it be nice if there was a machine out there that could not only fold your letters, but also place them in an envelope and seal them shut? That would probably save hundreds of hours and potentially thousands of dollars over a fairly short period of time.

Guess what? Machines like that do exist, and they are called envelope stuffers, sealers and folder inserters.

At ABC Office we carry a line of machines that do just that. Our line of folding and inserting machines are made by the reputable manufacturer Formax.  These machines typically have a feed tray where you can place a stack of paper. The envelope stuffing machine then takes a sheet of paper from that stack, folds it, puts it in an envelope and seals it shut. The entire process is automated, fast and easy.

Entry level machines have one feed tray, but middle and high end machines have multiple feed trays. Multiple trays allow envelope stuffers to fold and insert even more than one sheet of paper at a time. Many of these machines allow the insertion of return envelopes, inserts and more.

You can see a full multi-part video demo of the popular Formax FD 6202 envelope stuffing machine here.

Paper folder inserters can be used with a variety of envelope styles, including envelopes with windows. We do, however, like to have an envelope sample sent into us to test prior to selling a machine.

Would you like to have a hands-on demonstration of an automatic envelope stuffer? You can request a live video demonstration of one of these machines by filling out this form. This is a no-pressure demonstration where one of our specialists demonstrates the machine live, over the Internet, while answering your questions on the phone.
