Martin Yale 1611 AutoFolder Paper Folding MachineWhen it comes to paper folding machines, there are literally dozens of different models to choose from. While there are some tied and true machines out there, it is tough to know which will hold up and which will do a good job. One such machine I have personally used is the Martin Yale 1611 AutoFolder (found here). I would like to share a new video with you that we just added to our site and discuss why I personally like this machine.

Martin Yale has been around for years, well longer than the 13 years I have been with ABC Office. They manufacture a wide variety of products including paper folders. To be honest, I’ve never been a huge fan of their folding machines (such as the 1501X and the 1217A). My opinion of their machines changed with the introduction of the 1611 and 1711 AutoFolders. These two machines are solid.

The 1611 is the replacement of the older 1601. They took the 1601, worked out some of the kinks and issues people were having and released the 1611. For the price, and considering the capabilities included, it is a great deal. Here is a video of the 1611 and 1711 folding machines in use:

So why do I like the Martin Yale 1611 so much? A lot of it boils down to price, features and simplicity. Here are just a few things I really like:

  • Folding Plates – While this machine is still manually set up, adjusting the folding plates is as easy as loosening a single thumbscrew, sliding the plate to the correct position and tightening the screw back up.
  • Drop-In Feed Tray – Unlike the older 1501X (aka CV7) and the 1217A that require the paper to be pre-fanned, the 1611 utilizes a drop-in feed system. This means you can take your stack of paper and drop it into the feed tray without any fanning or special adjustments. This also results in much fewer paper jams.
  • Multi-Sheet Folding Capabilities – The 1611 is built with a multi-sheet feed slot that can handle up to 5 sheets of stapled or unstapled paper. This slot is located in front of the standard feed tray. The multi-sheet stack does have to be manually fed into the machine, but the results look great.
  • Stacking Wheel & Conveyor – Unlike most paper folding machines in this price range, the 1611 comes equipped with a powered exit conveyor and stacking wheels. This essentially takes the folded paper, slows it down and helps keep it organized as it leaves the machine.
  • Maintenance – I should mention that this machine is easy to maintain. It is designed to make the rollers easy to access and clean. This helps prolong the life of the paper folding machine.
  • Adjustments – While this machine lets you easily adjust the folding plates to accommodate the fold you need, it also has skew adjustment capabilities via a dial, making it easy to get the fold completely registered and crisp every time.

I should mention that this machine is a friction feed paper folding machine. This means it will not handle slick, glossy or coated paper will. It will handle standard finish paper just fine in thicknesses ranging from 16# bond up to 70# index. It can also handle paper sizes ranging from 3 ½” x 5” up to 8 ½” x 14” (legal).

I hope this information helps you in making an educated buying decision on a paper folding machine. We have sold a lot of 1611 folding machines and have had great luck with them. Intelli-Fold DE-112AF Paper Folding Machine Video Demo

Intelli-Fold DE-112AF Paper Folding MachineIf you are interested in the Intelli-Fold DE-112AF (found here), or if you simply want to see an in-depth video of a paper folding machine, you’re in luck. We just finished filming, editing and making live a video for the DE-112AF. This is currently one of our best-selling paper folders due to its great low price and reliability. The video is about nine minute long and I will be posting it directly in this post.

There are many reasons why the DE-112AF is so popular. To begin with, it costs less than $1,000 (as of this article), it includes a powered exit conveyor with stacking wheel, has an adjustable speed motor and features an impressive 500 sheet capacity. Having used this machine myself, and having seen the end results, I have to say this is by far one of the best manual setup paper folding machines we offer. It is an upgraded version of the DE-102AF.

The DE-112AF just recently had a few new features added designed to help make setup easier.  This includes the addition of indicator lights and dedicated on / off buttons. The lights on the side of the machine now let you know when the cover is properly closed, when the two folding plates are properly seated and when the feed tray is full or empty. Knowing the folding plates are correctly seated helps to eliminate paper jams.

Here is the video demo of the Intelli-Fold DE-112AF:

As you can see from the video, this is a very versatile machine. I have personally used it to create letter folds, accordion folds, half folds and gate folds. One thing I find impressive is how accurate the skew is. The edges of the fold line up very well and the crease is straight and even. It is about as professional a fold as you can get. This type of machine is excellent for folding invoices, bills, letters and more.

Because the folding plates are so customizable, it is easy to create custom folds. Simply loosen the screws on the folding plates and play around with them. It is easy to make variations of the letter and accordion fold. It can be used with paper ranging in size from 3/5″ x 5″ up to 8.5″ x 14″ and it handles paper thicknesses from 16# bond up to 50# index.

The  build quality on this machine is excellent and much better than many comparable machines. The outer shell is made of plastic, but the folding plates and most of the internal components (including the chassis) are made of metal. It is extremely easy to service and very easy to clean. We have a Service Department here at ABC Office that can provide support and parts if needed.

MBM 307A Paper Folding Machine Video Demo

MBM 307A Paper Folding MachineWhen it comes to automatic paper folding machines, the MBM 307A (found here) is in a class of its own. It is often used for folding letters, invoices, brochures and more. We recently had a chance to play around with one and film a video of it in action. After having used this machine, I can safely say that it is probably one of the best paper folders we offer. I would like to cover a few of the MBM 307A’s benefits and include a copy of the video that we shot.

As mentioned earlier, this machine is automated. That means that all you have to do is select a fold from the control panel and the machine will automatically adjust its folding plates to the appropriate locations. The actually adjustments take just a few seconds to complete. I was amazed at just how quiet the machine was. The mechanical components of the folding plates are self enclosed, which helps to muffle out the sound during the folding process.

Here is the video demo we shot of the MBM 307A.

Another thing that I am very impressed with is the build quality. This machine features high-end electronics and many durable metal components. Another impressive part of this machine is the three-wheel friction feed system. These wheels do a great job of quickly and evening grabbing the paper. The skew seems to be extremely accurate and the folds are remarkably precise. The feed tray holds 450 sheets of paper and the motor runs at 11,520 sheets per hour. This machine is very fast and excellent of commercial-volume paper folding.

Out of the box, the 307A can be used to create a letter fold, a half fold, an accordion fold, a double parallel fold and a half accordion fold. The MBM 307A can even be used for custom folds and can be used to store those folds in the memory. It can be used with paper as small as 3 ½” x 5″ or as large as 11″ x 17″.

The exit tray on this machine features a powered conveyor system with a stacking wheel configuration. The stacking wheels help organize, align and stack paper as it leaves the machine. This is nice for organization purposes and also for keeping invoices, bills and other material in order.

This kind of paper folding machine is commonly used in businesses, churches, copy shops, printing presses and others for folding large amounts of paper on a daily basis. Overall it is a very solid machine and is a great choice if you are looking for a high-quality paper folding machine. You can find our entire selection of paper folding machines here.
