Mighty Mutt MPV-18 Vacuum Sealer Review

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013

Mighty Mutt MPV-18 Impulse Vacuum SealerIf your business is in need of an industrial quality impulse vacuum sealer, the Mighty Mutt MPV-18 (found here) is certainly an option to consider. It has been around for years, is made in the USA, is a well-known brand and is commonly used for packaging anything from medical supplies to food. With all the vacuum sealers out there, is this particular one the right choice for you?

The Mighty Mutt MPV-18 falls under the category of external vacuum sealer because it the bags are always outside the machine during the sealing process, unlike a chamber sealer. The advantage to this is that there are no height restrictions. With a wide 17.5” sealing width, the Mighty Mutt can be used to vacuum seal and package a wide variety of products.

This vacuum sealer also falls under the category of impulse sealer. Impulse sealing is a technology that doesn’t require any warm-up time prior to use. The sealing wire heats up and quickly cools down with every use, also making it very safe to use. The MPV-18 seals bags shut using a ¼” (6mm) flat band seal, which is more than enough sealing width for most packaging applications. A footswitch makes hands-free operation extremely easy.

The Might Mutt uses what’s known as a retractable nozzle system (made of stainless steel). When the top of the bag is inserted into the sealer, the nozzle slips inside the bag. This nozzle is what actually removes the air from the package. Once the designated amount of air has been removed, the nozzle will actually remove itself, allowing the bag to be sealed shut. The stainless steel nozzle is extremely easy to clean and far more durable than the plastic nozzles found on many competitors’ machines.

One thing that really sets the Mighty Mutt apart from the competition is the use of the Venturi Vacuum. This type of vacuum is a Seco Gramatech exclusive. Unlike other pumps, it uses no moving or electrical parts. This makes the machine extremely quiet, much more so than the competition. This also helps to improve the compressor life and improves the cycle rate of the machine. If you have ever seen this machine in use, you will be surprised to see just how fast the air is removed from the bag.

Here is a video of the MPV-18 Might Mutt in action:

This sealer is very easy to set up. It includes dials that allow you to adjust things such as the dwell, vacuum, seal and gas settings. It can be fitted with an optional internal compressor, single stage gas flush, bi-active seal system and it can be fitted for use with an optional 220V electrical system.

Weighing it at about 60 pounds, this vacuum sealer can be used on most workbenches, counters, tables or desks. It is designed to be fast, simple to operate and can be used just about anywhere. This machine is ideal for packaging medical supplies, parts, tools and even food.

Be aware that this vacuum sealer does require an external air compressor to operate.

Minipack MVS 26X Vacuum Food Sealer Review

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Minipack MVS 26X Vacuum Food SealerIf you’re a restaurant, a grocery store or a food packaging plant, you probably have the need of a high-quality vacuum food sealer. While external sealers are nice for many packaging purposes, chamber sealers mean business. One high-quality chamber sealer you should consider using is the Minipack MVS 26X vacuum food sealer (found here). This is my review.

Chamber vacuum sealers, unlike external sealers, conduct the entire packaging process in a controlled chamber environment. Air is not only removed from the bag, but from the entire chamber. This process allows 99.9% of the air to be removed. It is a very efficient process that is ideal for commercial packaging.

The MVS 26X vacuum sealer is an affordable “first step” into chamber vacuum sealing. A few months ago the least expensive system we offered was the MVS 31 X. We have just added several new machines to our lineup and the MVS 26X is one of those machines. The sealable chamber area is 11″ x 16″ x 4″. Be aware that the lid of the MVS 26X is domed, allowing for a few more inches than the specified 4″ height.

Everything about the MVS 26X shows its quality. The stainless steel construction is designed to be used for packaging foods and liquids and the basin of the chamber is seamless.  The seamless basin is easy to clean and is extremely sanitary, eliminating areas for bacteria to get trapped and grow.  There are no sharp edges on this machine and the gauge of the steel is exceptionally thick.

The MVS 26X uses an extremely durable pump, which only takes a few seconds to achieve maximum vacuum pressure. The aluminum sealing bar produces an extremely tight seal that will not degrade or weaken with time. The Italian build and construction on this machine is exceptionally high.

Unlike many comparable chamber sealers that feature complicated analog controls, dials and gauges, the MVS 26X is completely digital. Calibration is completely automated. The control panel is extremely easy to navigate, allowing you to store up to 10 custom jobs.

The control panel allows you to quickly adjust the sealing time, the amount of air to be removed from the chamber and how quickly to return the atmosphere back to normal. A digital display lets you know exactly what’s going on during the entire process. An optional inert gas injection kit is perfect for packaging more delicate food and products.

Using this sealer is easy. Simply place your product in a bag, place the bag in the sealer, pull the hood down and let the machine do the rest. The Minipack MVS 26X is perfect for packaging food, liquids, powders, parts and other retail merchandise.

As previously mentioned, the build quality is excellent. Our Minipack vacuum food sealers are extremely popular right now and have a great track record. The MVS 26X should easily hold up to daily use and will easily last you for years.

Minipack MVS 20 Chamber Vacuum Sealer Review

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Minipack MVS 20 Chamber Vacuum Food SealerVacuum food sealers are great machines. They can be used to package poultry, beef, fish, vegetables, fruit and much more. Many people use vacuum sealers to package merchandise for retail sale. One types of the best vacuum sealers available is the chamber vacuum sealer. One affordable model you may want to look at is the Minipack MVS 20 chamber vacuum sealer (found here). This is my review.

The Minipack MVS line of chamber vacuum sealers is hugely popular with our customers and has a great track record. Unlike many chamber sealers out there that almost appear to be assembled in a garage with sheet metal, the MVS sealers feature a high-quality build. They are all Italian made.

The MVS 20 is Minipack’s smallest and most affordable chamber sealer. It has a chamber area of 8.5″ x 12″ x 3.75″. This is large enough to package many food products for retail sale. It can also be used to package non-food products, liquids and powders.

The build quality on the MVS 20 is exceptional. It features a durable motor and pump, a solid chamber hood and a high-quality stainless steel exterior made from heavy-gauge metal. It is designed to be used every day.

Using the MVS 20 is easy. Take your product, place it in a vacuum sealing bag, insert that back into the MVS 20, place the open end of the bag under the sealing bar and close the hood. A latch, located on the front of the machine, must then be placed over the hood, keeping it in place. Once everything is in place, the machine can be turned on. Air is then removed from the chamber, the bag is sealed and air is returned back to the chamber.

The entire process takes very little time and the end results are extremely professional. The seal created by the MVS 20 holds up well with time and will not allow air to return back into the bag. Food sealed by the MVS 20 can be preserved 3-4 times longer than non-vacuum packaged food.

The control panel, located on the front of the MVS 20 is extremely easy to use. It lets you know, by means of a digital display, exactly what is going on during the vacuum sealing process. This same control panel allows you to select the sealing duration and the amount of air to be removed from the chamber.

You will find the MVS 20 in meat packing plants, grocery stores, merchandise factories and much more. For the price, you get a lot of machine. I would personally recommend this vacuum sealer for most entry to mid-volume vacuum packing projects.

Minipack MVS 45 X Chamber Vacuum Sealer Review

Friday, March 18th, 2011
Minipack MVS 45 X Vacuum Food Sealer

MVS 45 XII Shown

Does your business package poultry, fish, beef, pork, fruits or vegetables on a daily basis? Do you need a solid and reliable way to protect and preserve consumable goods? You should probably be using a vacuum sealer like the Minipack MVS 45 X vacuum food sealer (found here). This is my revue.

Minipack has been in the process recently of upgrading their entire line of vacuum sealing machines. This includes the MVS 31, MVS 45 and many other machines. Minipack has essentially re-designed the look of the machines, while maintaining the same functionality. Overall, they have rounded out the corners a bit and have slightly simplified the user interface.

The newly re-designed MVS 45 now carries the name of the MVS 45 X. If you are already familiar with the standard MVS 45, you will probably notice very little difference in the new model. It still features the same high-quality stainless steel design and incredible vacuum sealing speeds.

The chamber sealing area of the MVS 45 X measures in at 18.5″ x 16″ x 4.5″. This is large enough to package most food products. Simply place your product in a vacuum sealing bag, place it in the vacuum sealer, close the hood and let the machine do the rest.

The front control panel makes it easy to adjust the time duration of the sealing bar and the amount of air that is removed from the chamber. The MVS 45 X can remove up to 99.99% of the air in the chamber. Having used these sealers myself, I can tell you that it is impressive to see the end results. The vacuum seal bag literally collapses around the food (or product), filling in all air pockets. The seal itself is extremely solid and reliable.

Unlike many vacuum sealers out there that require special tuning and adjustments, the MVS 45 X is pretty much calibrated and ready to run out of the box. The basin of this sealer is designed to be sanitary. There are no creases where food can get trapped and cleanup is extremely easy.

One significant item of note is the build quality. Many chamber sealers out there use cheap and flimsy sheet metal, many of which can even cut you. The MVS 45 is made from heavy-gauge stainless steel. It is designed to hold up and be used continually throughout the day. It is perfect for commercial use and is excellent for packaging meat and other food at grocery stores.

One nice added feature I really like on the Minipack MVS 45 X is it now has an oil change light that lets you know when to change the oil. Oil changes on the MVS 45 X are extremely easy to do.

Overall I give the MVS 45 X high marks. Minipack products are some of the best quality available and the MVS 45 X doesn’t let you down. I give this vacuum food sealer a solid 5 out of 5 stars.

Minipack MVS 31 X Chamber Vacuum Food Sealer Review

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Minipack MVS 31 X Chamber Vacuum Food SealerDo you package fish, fruit, meat, vegetables and other products on a daily basis? If you are using an external sealer, you may need to upgrade to something designed for commercial or continuous-use operation like a chamber sealer. One model you may want to consider using is the Minipack MVS 31 X chamber vacuum food sealer (found here). I have used this vacuum sealer and this is my review.

Minipack is easily one of the best-known manufacturers of packaging equipment. The parent company, Minipack-Torre, is based in Italy. They manufacture a wide variety of products including shrink wrap machines, vacuum food sealers, mail baggers and more. Minipack’s line of products have a great reputation with our customers.

The MVS 31 X is the direct replacement to the extremely popular MVS 31. Other than a few aesthetic changes, the MVS 31 X is very similar to the MVS 31. It utilizes a chamber that measures in at 12.75″ W x 11.75″L  x 4.5″ H. While this isn’t a huge chamber area, it can be used to package most food products.

Using the Minipack MVS 31 X is extremely easy. Simply place your product in a vacuum sealer back, place it in the MVS 31 X and make sure the sealing bar covers the opening of the bag.

Once the process has begun, the entire cycle takes just a few seconds. First the air is removed from the chamber (up to 99.99%), the bag is sealed shut using a sealing bar and then the air is returned back to normal atmosphere. As the air inside the chamber returns to normal, you can literally see the bag collapse around the product being sealed. It produces an extremely professional and tight seal around the product being packaged.

The control panel on the MVS 31 X is extremely easy to use. It allows you to adjust the amount of air being removed, the sealing bar time and much more. The MVS 31 X has up to 10 customizable programs, allowing you to save your settings and adjustments. A display on the control panel will even let you know when the chamber’s oil needs to be changed. An optional inert gas kit is available if you are packaging more delicate products.

Calibration, based on your elevation, is extremely easy to do and simple instructions are included with the machine. It is an easy-to-use and no-nonsense machine.

The MVS 31 X features an excellent build quality. Many things have been built into the MVS 31 X to also make it easy to clean up and keep sanitary. Unlike many cheaper machines, the MVS 31 X has a seamless basin, which prevents food from getting into cracks, bacteria and contamination.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Minipack MVS 31 X chamber sealer for anyone packaging food or other products on a commercial level. This machine is designed to handle the load. Just be sure the chamber dimensions match up with what you’re packaging. I rate this machine a full 5 out of 5 stars.

The Foodshell FS-500 Portable Vacuum Food Sealer Reviewed

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Foodshell Vacuum Food SealerWe have been offering a great selection of Minipack brand vacuum food sealers for some time now. This includes both chamber and external sealers. The only problem is that most of these sealers are designed for higher-volume packaging. We have just added a new vacuum food sealer, the Foodshell FS-500, designed for home use.

The new Foodshell FS-500 vacuum food sealer (found here) is a compact external-style sealer. It only weighs in at 4 pounds, so most people shouldn’t have a problem moving this around. It can be used on just about any table or countertop and is about as easy to use as a toaster oven.  The Foodshell FS-500 uses a “One Click” process leading to vacuuming and sealing automatically

The main purpose of the Foodshell FS-500 is to help people protect and preserve food. Simply place food in a bag, or use a vacuum sealer film roll (can use both) and let the Foodshell extract the air and seal the bag shut with a 2mm seal.

The Foodshell FS-500 measures in at 14.6″ x 6″ x 3.2″ and uses a split chamber, which makes cleaning easy.

The Foodshell has many benefits, including:

  • Keeps food fresh and healthy longer – It is well known that vacuum food sealers help keep food fresh for a longer period of time, sometimes by 3-4 times longer than non-vacuum sealed food. Vacuum sealing also helps prevent nutrient robbing oxidation.
  • Allows you to buy groceries in bulk – Sometimes an opportunity arises where you can buy food in bulk at a discounted price. The only downside is that it is hard to preserve excess food. The Foodshell FS-500 helps by preserving bulk food.
  • Makes it easy  to prepare meals in advance – Vacuum food sealers make it easy to create complete meals in advance for cooking later. Think of it as homemade TV dinners.
  • Helps reduce waste and spoilage – Less spoilage means less waste. Less waste means money-savings for you.
  • Preserves flavor, freshness, nutrients, and color of food – Vacuum-Sealed food maintains flavor, nutrients, freshness and more for a longer period of time versus non vacuum-sealed food.
  • Makes the best use of freezer space – As many of us know, freezers are often limited in space. The Foodshell FS-500 makes it easy to re-package food, making it easier to store in a freezer.

So there you have it. The new and compact Foodshell FS-500 vacuum food sealer. This should be a great option for home vacuum sealing and food preservation. You can view the Foodshell FS-500 vacuum food sealer here. You can find our entire selection of vacuum food sealers here.

Minipack MVS 50 Chamber Vacuum Food Sealer Review

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Minipack MVS 50 Vacuum Food SealerDo you need to vacuum pack a lot of fruit, meat, vegetables or other food items? If so, you should consider using a chamber vacuum sealer. Chamber sealers are perfect for removing unwanted air and creating a tight seal. Once model you may want to consider for your commercial needs is the Minipack MVS 50 chamber vacuum food sealer (found here). This is my review.

If you have ever dealt with shrink wrap packaging or vacuum food sealing, you are probably familiar with the Minipack line of packaging machines. The MVS line is considered many to be one of the best-built vacuum food sealers around. So what sets the MVS 50 apart from the rest?

To begin with, the MVS 50 has a large chamber. It measures in at 26″ X 20.25″ X 8.75″. This is big enough to vacuum seal most food products. While Minipack does make bigger vacuum food sealers, many find the MVS 50 to be more than enough for most commercial vacuum sealing projects

The MVS 50 is available in a couple of power configurations. This includes a 208V and a 220V version. It also includes a single phase or 3 phase power supply, depending on what your needs are. Ultimately the end results are the same and the usability is the same, regardless of the version you use.

The entire vacuum food sealing process takes less than a minute. Once your product is in a vacuum sealing bag and is in place, the hood can be lowered. Once lowered, the MVS5 begins to remove air from the chamber. It is capable of removing up to 99.9% of the chamber air (although this can be adjusted). The 4mm thick seal is tough.

Once the necessary amount of air has been removed, the bag is sealed and the atmosphere within the chamber is brought back to normal. It is really fun to watch. As the air is returned, you can see the plastic shrink and cling to the food. An inert gas air kit is available for this machine.

I think one of the things that really sets the MVS chamber sealers apart from the rest is the fact that these machines are so easy to use. Unlike many comparable models out there, the MVS 50 has no complicated dials or fine-tuned adjustments that you have to worry about.

The control panel is digital. It is simple to tell the machine the amount of air you want removed, the amount of time the sealing needs to happen and more. It can store up to 9 custom programs, making it easy to switch from meat to chips to strawberries.

The edges of the chamber are seamless and very easy to clean. You’ll notices as you use this sealer that the metal composition is thick and durable. The build quality is visually obvious and touching this machine conveys quality.

Here are a few other features you may be interested in:

  • Vacuum cycle stop
  • Bags waste film cut
  • Soft-Air
  • Electronic volumetric sensor
  • High density plates
  • Transparent lid
  • Auto-calibration
  • Security for over-current on sealing bar
  • Oil level check signal
  • CE certification

Over all I consider this to be the ideal chamber vacuum sealer for products that fall within the 26″ X 20.25″ X 8.75″ chamber dimensions. It’s easy to use and will easily hold up for years.

Minipack MVS 45 Chamber Vacuum Food Sealer Review

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Minipack MVS 45 Chamber Vacuum Food SealerAre you in the food business or have the need to package and preserve food for storage or retail purposes? One popular machine that people now use is a chamber vacuum sealer. If you’re in the market for one, you should seriously consider the Minipack MVS 45 chamber vacuum food sealer (found here). I’ve had a chance to use one and this is my review.

We are always bringing in new products to our showroom floor to test them out and for training purposes. We frequently have the MVS 45 on our showroom floor and I have had multiple opportunities to use it. In fact, I shot a video demo of the Minipack MVS 45 that you can watch here.

You may be interested to know that Minipack is an Italian company and their chamber vacuum food sealers are made in Italy. The reason I bring this up is because many of the competitors have their vacuum sealers made in China. I personally think the Italian refinement really shines through.

At first glance the machine looks really nice. It isn’t until you take a closer look that you begin to really see the fine detail that has gone into the machine. The metal is thick (stainless steel), not flimsy sheet metal, and the user interface is very simple. There are no jagged edges and the machine is very safe to use.

One of the biggest complaints I have heard regarding chamber-style vacuum food sealers is that they are hard to clean. This is where the MVS 45 excels. The bin of the MVS 45 is seamless. This means there are no cracks, crevices or other small nooks or crannies where bacteria and food can become trapped. Simply put, the MVS 45 is designed from the ground up to be more sanitary.

Many comparable vacuum food sealers have complicated analog gauges and dials that have to be adjusted to ensure proper packaging. The MVS 45 does have a control panel, but it is simple to use. It allows you to adjust the amount of air to be removed, the sealing time, inert gas settings (if so equipped), has a stop cycle switch and much more.

Every time I have used the MVS 45, the packaging results are excellent. The display panel on the front of the machine will let you know how much air has been removed and exactly where you are in the packaging process.

Overall I really like the MVS 45. The chamber area can be used to package a wide variety of products (18″ X 18″ X 8.25″). If you need a commercial chamber vacuum food sealer that will last you for years, the MVS 45 is definitely the machine you need.

Minipack MVS 31 Vacuum Food Sealer Review

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Minipack MVS 31 Vacuum Food SealerAre you looking for a fast, affordable and convenient way to package meat, fruits, vegetables, liquids and powders? One machine you may want to consider using is the Minipack MVS 31 vacuum food sealer (found here). I have used this machine and this is my review.

In case you aren’t familiar with them, Minipack is one of the most reputable and well-known manufacturers of industrial / commercial shrink wrap machines and vacuum sealers in the United States. Minipack is an Italian company and their line of products are designed and made in Italy. They are known for their high build quality and reliability.

The Minipack MVS 31 is what’s commonly referred to as a chamber sealer. You essentially place your product in a vacuum sealer bag and place in the machine. Once the lid is pulled down, the MVS 31 will remove 99.9% of the air inside the chamber, seal the bag shut and return the atmosphere in the chamber back to normal.

The result is an air-tight seal that helps protect and preserve food. Vacuum sealed food is perfect for sometimes tripling or more the life expectancy of food. You will commonly find vacuum-sealed food in the grocery store such as fish, chicken breasts, vegetables and more. It can also be used to package non-food items without any problems. The MVS 31 can do all this in its 12.75″ X 11.75″ X 6″ chamber.

Unlike many comparable vacuum sealers, the MVS 31 uses a seamless design which is perfect for food. This means if you do experience a spill, the basin of the vacuum sealer can easily be wiped down. The MVS 31 is not made from sharp and cheap sheet metal, it is made from high quality stainless steel (AISI 304 according to CE standards). Even the sealing bar is designed to be clean and sanitary.

Another nice feature of the MVS 31 is the lid. The lid can be completely opened up, which means you don’t have to deal with an annoying gas piston that keeps failing.

The operation of the MVS 31 is pretty automated. There are no complex dials or fine-tuned adjustments to be made. There is a simple-to-use digital panel that allows the operator to adjust the amount of air removed and the sealing time. The machine does the rest.

The MVS 31 does have the ability to be used with an inert gas kit (optional) for added food preservation. This means you can remove the air and replace it with another cuts down or eliminates bacteria.

Overall I am very impressed with the MVS 31. This machine is tough and is designed for commercial and industrial use without hesitation. The build quality is excellent, and for the price, is well worth it. It is designed to last you for years of reliable use.

Minipack Cyclone Vacuum Food Sealers Reviewed

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Minipack Cyclone External Vacuum SealersWow. Who would have thought that the Minipack Cyclone line of vacuum sealers would be such a hit in just a few short months? If you are considering purchasing an external vacuum food sealer, you may want to seriously consider looking into a Minipack Cyclone. Why? Here are a few reasons.

One of the biggest reasons the Minipack Cyclone is such a hit with individuals and businesses alike can be summed up in two words, “Build Quality.” The stark contrast in build quality in the Minipack Cyclone versus other “Saver” style vacuum sealers is as stark as the difference between plastic and metal.

Minipack products are Italian designed and Italian made. This is the same country that brought us the Ferrari. The Cyclone is the Italian Ferrari of the external vacuum sealer world. Here are a few features found in the Minipack Cyclone:

First off, the Cyclone features a corrosive-free aluminum alloy housing. Why is this nice? Many foods and vacuum sealed products can cause cheaper metals and plastics to corrode, discolor and break down. For sanitation purposes, you want something that is non corrosive.

The control panel is flat, user-friendly and features a digital knobless design. If you have ever used a food-handling device that has knobs, you know how easy it is for food to get trapped underneath. If you are packaging fish, beef and pork, you don’t want those juices festering under knobs and between cracks.

The sealer includes a moisture collecting basin. This helps with food preservation. The Minipack Cyclone creates a 4mm seal width, which is double the 2mm seal width found in many comparable models.

A wide seal width is great to have because it prevents accidents and does a better job of maintaining the vacuum seal. The Cyclone can be used with channel or three-layer bags. The Cyclone also features an automatic cycle and a manual sealing cycle.

We offer the Minipack Cyclone in three different versions, all based on the sealing width.

These three models are:
